Cytomel metabolism

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel metabolism

cytomel

Avatar n tn We would agree that eating 500 calories per day just to not take in more than one is burning is not the answer either. Obviously fixing the metabolism is the answer, and in some cases the metabolism is repaired through adjustment of the dose of right thryoid meds.
Avatar f tn Would you prescribe Cytomel to your patients who want to try Cytomel to loose the extra fat and help speed up their metabolism? Even with normal blood tests? What the dose of Cytomel to start with? She told me even some body builders take Cytomel short term to help them loose the “fat” quickly when they are in training. What do you think? Thanks so much.
Avatar n tn What will it take to lose weight while having hypothyroidism and being on cytomel? I know the side effects of cytomel includes weight loss......but how much time do you have to be on cytomel for to start seeing those side effects? I can use any help on this. Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn You haven't given us the most important piece of info, which is, do you have a diagnosed thyroid problem? I'm guessing not or you wouldn't be illegally buying this med from Mexico probably without a prescription, which means you don't know even if it's got in it what you think it does.
Avatar n tn Are you using the T3 as a laxative? It doesn't work like that. If you are constipated, you need to use a laxative/high fiber diet, not a T3 med. Are you dosing yourself? 40 mcg is most likely too much, which could be why you have the nausea and sickness. I've been on cytomel for over 9 months and my metabolism is just now beginning to return to normal, but still has a ways to go. Even with a higher metabolism, you may still be constipated. What are your thyroid levels?
Avatar f tn My doctors suggest that I take Phentermine but im taking levothyroxine 88mg and Cytomel 5mg due to thyroidectomy 3 years ago and I have gain weight due to hypothyroidism. Have anyone tried the phentermine while on levothyroxine and Cytomel?
Avatar f tn I am on 150mcg now and am still fat, tired and short of breath. Can adding cytomel help and can I use it even if I had thyroid ca?
Avatar n tn Anxiety is a side effect of Cytomel. Why are you on Cytomel alone and not combined with a T4 med? You should not be as anxious as you are. Do you know hat your free T3, free T4 and TSH were prior to starting Cytomel? Do you take your Cytomel in one dose or split it?
Avatar f tn The only relief I’m seeing is more regularity in my bowel movements, haha. Is it too soon to ask my dr to increase cytomel? Is 5mcg cytomel + 50mcg levothyroxine even going to help? It seems so low.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know why post-op TT patients are initially placed on Cytomel? I am aware that Cytomel is just T3 while Synthroid is T4, but I still don't understand. Also, how does Cytomel affect your mood? Is it sufficient or will you go hypo? Any response appreciated.
Avatar n tn and I have started feeling tired again--those syptoms had actually gone away but they are back, and I was retaining bodyfat, in which I was hoping the cytomel would get my metabolism raring again, but it seems to be going the opposite way?? Oh my TSH last month was 1.20 and now 0.40?? I am back exercising full force--does that affect my meds and the dosages? Why would my T3 drop if I am taking T3 now by mouth--it makes no since to me??
1165078 tn?1338655745 Should my Doc be telling me to take the first dose of the day, of my Cytomel WITH my Levoxyl? Isn't that a contradiction to having to take the T4 med on an empty tummy with only water and then keep it empty for least an hour? (2-3 hrs for me since I have SUCH a slow metabolism)..
927140 tn?1244210051 I just went to an endocronologist and he has put me on Cytomel and then I'm already on Synthroid and Celexa. In two weeks he is wanting me to start on Phentermine. I have had lots of weight gain. I'm a little concerned about these BIG changes, but I do want help. Has anybody heard of this combination in meds?
Avatar n tn I have read that cytomel boost the anti depression medication, when I was first prescribed it I did not take it because if the simple fact of when I get off of them what will happen. So when I went back for a follow up I ask my doc about them and he said it should be fine, I plan on going to see him this week and asking him again about them.
Avatar f tn I am recently diagnoised with hypo-been taking 100 synthroid for almost a month. I work out 5 days a week I was wondering if anyone has taken cytomel along with synthroid? If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn When I was switched from Cytomel to the generic I had a gradual deterioration of my previously good state and had symptoms of hyperthyroidism (dizzyness, heart palpitations, anxiety, joint pain) even though the dosage remained the same. My prescription was 75 mcg. T4 and 25 mcg.T3. I made sure that the generic was from Mylan labs every time. My doctor cut the T3 dosage in half and I crashed...severe depression, edema and 15 lb. weight gain in 3 weeks, visual and cognitive problems.
213044 tn?1236527460 ) Without this conversion of T4 to T3, cells have too little T3 to maintain normal metabolism; metabolism then slows down. T3, therefore, is the metabolically active thyroid hormone. For the most part, T4 is metabolically inactive. T4 "drives" metabolism only after the deiodinase enzyme converts it to T3. Another enzyme called 5-deiodinase continually converts some T4 to reverse-T3. Reverse-T3 does not stimulate metabolism. It is produced as a way to help clear some T4 from the body.
Avatar f tn How would one know if they're getting too much Cytomel (T3) ? Are there things to watch for before I get my next set of Blood tests done? How long should I give T3 before I give up? I'm so darn tired I just want to crawl in a hole. I'm currently using 12.5mcg of Cytomel and .75mg of Synthroid since July 14th. Help!
Avatar n tn speciast ob/gyn actually told my husband and I that he had no clue which to increase, the synthroid or the cytomel and has now pushed me back to the family doctor and I assume the family doctor will force me to an endo...which could take weeks to get into. Anybody know which hormone I should be increasing. I can't believe the specialist admitted to not knowing and he has never had a patient that was on both synthoid and cytomel!!
Avatar f tn He is running additional test on my thyroid and stated that he will inform me as to when I can go forth and order the Cytomel and Levothyroxine. I questioned him about the metabolism issue but didn't receive a good response. I don't know of what else to do as it seems that this is my last option before I go back to the weight loss centers.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Cytomel (50 mg) since diagnosis with some relief of symptoms but they have recently returned. My doctor decided to test again. My TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) level is < 0.015 Range: 0.465-4.680 - mIU/mL and my Free T4 (Free Thyroxine) is 0.32 Range: 0.78-2.19 - ng/dL. What are the chances that I have hypopituitarism. What else could it be?
1662185 tn?1302741426 i have read a lot of horror stories. i would like my doctor to prescribe to my cytomel and synthroid. i have multi nodules and lesions on my right lobe but has had previous nodules removed from both sides, so i am getting a TT. my thyroid T4, TSH and T3 levels are within normal range right now, but i am scared need help.
Avatar f tn I am getting ready to have my yearly check-up and am now on cytomel for two weeks then the low iodine diet. I am FREEZING all of the time and I am never cold.
Avatar m tn Your FT4 looks really good (even, perhaps, a tad high, but nothing to worry about), and you usually decrease levo by approximately 25 mcg when adding 5 mcg Cytomel. So, the increase to 100, plus adding the Cytomel might just have been too much, too fast. Now, you've been alternating for a while, got used to that, the Cytomel might be an altogether different experience.
