Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel lose weight

cytomel

Avatar n tn Weight becomes an uphill battle with hypothyroidism. Has anyone lost weight on cytomel? What will it take to lose weight while having hypothyroidism and being on cytomel? I know the side effects of cytomel includes weight loss......but how much time do you have to be on cytomel for to start seeing those side effects? I can use any help on this. Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn I had a total thyroidectomy 6 years ago and had gained 40 llbs since then. A year ago I started 12.5 cytomel. I never felt better in my life! I was on 125 levothyroxine and 12.5 cytomel to clarify. My doctor said I would not lose weight due to the cytomel. I don't know if it was the cyt or just me feeling better with no more fatigue that made me lose weight. I dropped 25lbs. Two months ago found out I was pregnant and was taken off the cytomel and my levothyroxine was raised to 150.
Avatar f tn t matter how much i watch what i eat or exercise i can not lose weight WHY??? What am i doing wrong? Please help me lose the weight..Give me some ideas.
Avatar f tn I am weight training as part of my exercise routine. I used to take Creatine drops to supplement my energy and endurance. Now that I am on Cytomel, can I still do this? Finally, are there any safe fat burners and energy boosters that can be taken with Cytomel?
Avatar f tn Yet I lost weight or it may rather be the edema that I lost within about 1 month and my body is back to normal prior to having the edema. Only thing is I would not like to lose weight at all - when off Cytomel then all the edema and body aches start - when on the Cytomel I do seem to have weight loss. Am not sure what to do here as my T3 was low, Total T3 low and my Reverse T3 high and my white blood count only 2.5 and the ration is 4.2 - 11.
Avatar n tn Hi kimberlyn1234, I am on both Synthroid and Cytomel. I was just reduced to 75 Syn and remain at 25 Cytomel. My doctor explained it to me like this: Synthroid is a synthetic T4. Your thyroid works to turn this into T3. Cytomel is a synthetic T3, so it goes right to work without having to go through the "processing". I didn't start on Cytomel but it was added a few years after my diagnosis because my T3's were still low.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thanks for the informative response re the debate that I've had with "the battle of the endos"...lol... My TSH is 2.82 My T3 is 118 My T4 is 6.8 Also, estradiol was extremely low at 14, along with vitamin d at 17 (which I am now supplementing the d), but don't want hormone replacement therapy as my mom died at 51 with breast cancer and my sister died at 64 with stomach cancer (I'm 48).
Avatar f tn I have reduced my calorie intake to dangerous levels but I am still putting on weight. I am starting to lose my mind a little bit and need some help! How can I keep the weight gain at bay until the cytomel leaves my system? What can I do to keep the weight off when everything I know (diet and exercise) don't work? How long until I should start feeling normal again?
927140 tn?1244210051 Thanks group! I will be getting my lab numbers and posting them. He put me on the weight lose drug because I'm gaining weight at an alarming rate! I just gained over 5 pounds in two weeks. I will not start the weight lose pill for two weeks so I'm going to see if the combo of Cytomel and Synthroid will help with this. Thanks for the feedback. I don't go back to the doctor for a while.
Avatar f tn I was on synthroid previously and could lose weight easily on that but felt horrible on it, now that I find a drug I feel good on and not anxious, etc I gain all this weight??
Avatar n tn In Sept of 2010 I started to see this new internal medicince doctor for my thyroid. I sought other treatment because I knew that my gaining weight and unstable thyroid symptoms I could no longer tolerate. He started me on P-Thyroid in Oct and did well. I wasn't losing weight but, felt good. Then in Feb 2011, I had a bad reaction to P-thyroid and suffered a set back with my thyroid treatment.
Avatar n tn Hello I am 45 years old and have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about 3 years ago I have had to revise my dosage of medications several times over the last 2 years as I can not get my levels regulated and I am constantly exhausted, I work out hard core with weights and running 4 times per week high intensity, eat beyond healthy and can not lose a pound!
Avatar n tn The TSH is low -- which is often the goal for thyroid cancer treatment. The symptoms are non-specific. There are not a lot of great options with the exception of a trial of cytomel (T3) addition to the synthroid -- this helps a few people, so may be worth a try. Usually we give 5mcg of cytomel in am and mid-afternoon --the synthroid dose would need to decrease by about 40mcg with this addition of cytomel.
Avatar f tn The effect of Cytomel takes a couple of weeks to set in. Cytomel can be given upto 100 mcg/day. So if you are on10 mcg/d and unable to lose weight it makes sense to increase to 25 mcg/d. Simultaneously Synthroid dose may need to be reduced slightly. Regarding any other laboratory tests besides thyroid profile at this point in time, I feel nothing else is necessary.
Avatar f tn You might still have to make an effort to lose the weight. We often find that better FT3 levels ALLOW you to lose weight, rather than making you lose weight. It's all very individual.
Avatar m tn You answered none of my questions.. as you said, it's my life.. i'm asking about the weight lose with cytomel, and of course, please read the questions i asked and lemme know if you can answer them! THX ALOT!
Avatar n tn I have only managed to lose 32/80 lbs that I gained.. How can I make this process go faster? I have never had a weight problem in the past. I went from 130 to 210 lbs and size 4 to 14/16W. This discussion is related to ADDITION OF CYTOMEL TO SYNTHROID.
Avatar n tn I've been hypo for 4 years, with periods where my meds work and I'm symptom free. Went to doc today because all my symptoms have returned - can't lose weight with severe calorie restriction and crazy exercise, overly tired in spite of lots of extra sleep, freezing cold hands and feet, fog brain, forgetfulness and overall lack of energy and miserable. My test results are as follows: TSH .09 [range 0.36 - 3.74] Free T3 4.0 [range 2.2 - 4.0] Free T4 1.25 [range 0.76-1.
Avatar f tn Just wanted to add, it did not help me lose weight. What I have found is any weight gained by this condition has to be lost with diet and exercise. What does happen with Armour is the eight gain stops when you get a midrange FT4 and high in range FT3 and you have more energy to exercise. The extra energy will let you be more active, which will result in weight loss. A rare few will lose just by switching to Armour, but its not the norm.
Avatar f tn Hi. I had my thyroid removed due to stage 1 thyroid cancer. Ablation was Sept 2009. I am currently taking 137mcg of Synthroid, but notice some symptoms of Hypothyrodism. My blood work, according to my doctor is perfect T3, Free 381 T4, Free 1.6, TSH 3rd generation 0.12 (indicates hyper). He wants me to stay on the same dose. I am wondering if combining Synthroid with a T3 supplement (cytomel???) would help eliminate some of the hypothyroid symptoms I am having?
Avatar f tn Many report that until you get into the sweet spot with Thyroid which generally means somewhere about mid range on FT4 and upper 1/3 of the range in FT3 it is nearly impossible to lose weight. Your FT4 was mid range or above. So now it may be to just tweak the FT3 to get it right for you. I think this is my wife's problem. She is taking meds and responding but never to our knowledge has gotten to the sweet spot for her and she is unable to lose weight either.
