Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel in canada

cytomel

Avatar f tn Hi there, My results may be a little confusing as the first tests were done in Nevada, the most recent in Canada. On March 11 I had blood work done in Nevada with no T3 done. I didn't know at the time to request it. My TSH was so low it was immeasurable, my T4 was 1.40 with a range of .82-1.77. On April 28 I had blood work done in Las Vegas and my TSH was .020 with a reference range of .450-4.5. My Ft4 1.38 with a range of .82-1.77.
Avatar m tn I agree with what everyone else has said. First off -- 50 mcg of cytomel is a very large dose. Secondly, although your FT4 may be in the "normal" range, it doesn't appear very high at all, but without the actual reference range that's hard to say. Yes, by all means --- get a new doctor asap.
Avatar m tn Ah - you're in Canada. We often see that people in Canada can't get the proper treatment/testing for thyroid issues do the nature of the health care system, there. I do not know of any instances, in which a patient has charged a doctor with malpractice due to incompetence with thyroid, but I'm sure it's been done. If your doctor took away all your thyroid hormones and prescribed you PTU, then cytomel without even testing Free T3, there certainly should be some recourse.
Avatar f tn 30 am for me; then I take the other 5 mcg cytomel at 9:30 am. I have more energy than I've had in years and I'm even beginning to sleep almost the entire night. I do start getting pretty tired around 3:00-3:30 pm, but that's ok because I'm home from work by then and I go to bed very early (7:30 pm) so I need to "wind down" anyway. I think you need to talk to your doctor and see about an adjustment to your med.
Avatar m tn I think it is probably too early for me to retest since I was on cytomel only for a few weeks and then as I switched to NDT I slowly took away the cytomel as I added more NDT. (a process that took about four more weeks) My question is...If I felt good on 45 mcg of NDT and 5mcg of cytomel, shouldn't I feel good on 60 mcg of NDT since basically I replace that 5mcg of cytomel (T3) with about 4mcg of T3 plus extra T4?
Avatar n tn 5 mcg Cytomel tablets. T3 has such a short halflife that it really does have to be taken in more than one dose or you get peaks and valleys in your levels.
Avatar f tn Hello all! Please help! I am getting so frustrated! I was diagnosed as hypothyroid last year and put on cytomel and synthroid. I started feeling crappy again and went to an endo. He says my TSH is low, my T4 is normal (there was no test for T3) and that means I am now hyperthyroid. He too me off the cytomel and reduced my synthroid. I have never shown a symptom of hyperthyroid. I went and had a BMR test done which showed I burn 821 calories/day.
Avatar f tn Hello! I'm hoping someone can help me :) After being on a cytomel (10 mcg split throughout the day) plus armour 90 mcg or 1.5 grains my FT4 had tanked to the bottom of the range and even bit below while FT3 was above range. I had been on this combo for over two years never feeling great. In fact I had a very difficult time accepting the armour from the very beginning so we moved super slowly. I tended to get bloating and swelling and we titrated up slowly as a result.
Avatar f tn I found a site in Canada that will sell Cytomel in 35mcg and 100 mcg (it is suggested to break them into quarters) strengths without a prescription...If I do this, I will monitor my own levels and seek higher medical if needed...I'm not being stupid about this, I'm just a bit fed up with Drs who will happily take your money but won't fix the problem...
Avatar m tn Cytomel, too, is given in very small amounts and increased in small increments. After you take cytomel, it peaks in your blood within 2-4 hours and is completely gone a few hours later; this is why we recommend taking it in split dosages. For instance, I take 10 mcg of generic cytomel/day. I take 5 mcg in the morning, with my T4 med, then around noon or 1:00, I take the other 5 mcg, so I have enough to stay with me all day. In your case, I have to wonder if you even need the cytomel.
Avatar m tn thank you for the quick reply. I have tried five cardios so far and none look beyond 'normal' lab results, for both heart and thryroid, to symptoms. In any case there's no Cytomel in Guatemala so I will have to get contacts in the US to bring or send it. Big question: Is it sold prescription only? Smiler: my cardio is surprised and diappointed that I'm not tip top. Why? because my EKG is normal.
640719 tn?1277140030 It spiraled me into thyroid he// in days since they reformulated. I found Canada thyroid and doing very well but if I would have understood Cytomel in the beginning before I switched I would have went that route instead of taking all the time adjusting to the higher levels of porcine desiccated thyroid as I did. Now, I will stay on my porcine thyroid cuz I don't want to break what isn't hurt again by switching again.
Avatar f tn Initally - going on a T3 med - Cytomel in addition to the Synthroid - you will feel great - then crash. This applies to natural thyroid combo meds too. T3 hormone is direct - which means your body accepts it immediately. You expressed you felt aweful prior to starting Cytomel - so that says you were hypothyroid and wanted direct T3. Well, you gave the body - what it needed - but it wants more. This is proven on your FT3 lab - the only thing is this is an old lab so one can only assume.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for all these info. Yes she is a llmd in New York and she tested through Igenex. That is the thing my dr here in Canada. He wants me to stop my thyroid medication....previous. Test free t3 and free t4 were in the range.....I will ask for reverse t3 next time. I have to tell you that morning that I do not take it, I have heart palpitation all day, so I think I need it. My dr in New York tell me that lyme sufferer have low thyroid, mine is 4.76. I have borrelia.
Avatar f tn So my question to you is can I cut my 75mcg synthroid in half? or just ask my doc for the 50mcg??? he gave me 25mg of cytomel. but I did cut it in half because I was scared to take the full dose. any suggestions from the pros?
499534 tn?1328704178 I had been having very labored breathing all week and on Tues I went to my dr who decided with my thyroid labs to put me back on Synthroid with Cytomel. So I went from 120mgs Armour to 88mcg Synthroid and 5mcg Cytomel in the morning, started new med 2 days ago. Throughout the week my ribs have hurt more and more front and back and I have been coughing and getting more breathless.
Avatar f tn thanks for the information. I actually go see my endo tomorrow. She will not prescribe the erfa and may not be happy about the tsh number. However my gp is another matter. So in your opinion do you think I should yp both my synthroid and cytomel doses then?
Avatar f tn It all changed after my diagnosis. I take my levothyroxine +cytomel at night. If I take it in the morning i feel nervous. At night I don't notice any difference.
Avatar f tn I know you would recommend it. I just felt so awful and depressed yesterday that I remembered I had Cytomel in my drawer. Last year my previous doctor prescribed 75mcg of levothyroxine and 5 mcg of Cytomel. The combination made my palpitations worse so he put me back on 30 mg of Armour saying that was my ideal dose. After this point we moved to CO. I kept both meds since then just in case a new doctor wanted to see any previous meds.
Avatar f tn Just got new script for Synthroid combined with Cytomel and my Endo wants me to take the Synthroid and half the dose of the Cytomel in the morning and the rest of the Cytomel in the evening. My question is if there is anyone who has a similar script, do you take the evening dose before bed or before dinner? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Has anyone been put on Cytomel while they were off Synthroid in preparation for their RAI. I am supposed to have the thyrogen injection but really do not want to have it. Any commnets would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have just been to my gp, for review of my blood test, asked to be put on cytomel, he is not comfortable with that, increased my synthroid, suggest i see an endo, does anyone have any suggestions for dr.
Avatar f tn Also, when a treatment gets approved in the States, it takes some time for it to be approved in Canada as we are behind the U.S.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any names of docs in Canada who deal with AD. We were vacationing in Australia, both got bit by jellyfish. I had AD for 3 months and it went away. He still has it after 2 years. He was healthy, young 35 yr old with no health issues. It's crazy, I could make a movie out of our experience. Any help is appreciated.
