Cytomel hormone

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel hormone

cytomel

765572 tn?1234697366 Levothyroxine is the generic for synthroid, which is a T4 med only - those 2 can be interchangeable, but some people do better on one or the other. Cytomel is a T3 only med. Armour is a natural thyroid hormone which has both T4 and T3. T3 is a very short lived hormone - only lasts a few hours and often works best to split the dosage over the day. The body has to convert T4 into T3 in order to benefit. A lot of people do not have a problem making this conversion but others do.
1205917 tn?1265745553 Can anyone, doctors especially included, tell me anything about their experiences with adding Cytomel to their daily regimen of thyroid hormone replacement? My main concerns are appearance & weightloss, energy, and mood (including anxiety & concentration).
Avatar n tn My hormone studies indicate that I have no growth hormone. I am having a pituitary MRI on Wed. and my IGF-3 is low.
Avatar f tn Had to giggle on your question you posted about not wanting pig thyroid and seeing your screen name GuineaPigs8. Sometimes the thyroid mind in me is just silly...... sorry Go to rx.com or drugs.
Avatar f tn I called him back the next week and told him I wanted to stay on 100mcg of Levoxyl along with the Cytomel...he agreed. I still knew not to take the full 25mg of cytomel after the last weeks experience so I began taking 100mcg levoxyl and 1/4 of a 25mg cytomel pill (I cut it 4 ways) once a day for a week then went up to a half pill a day for a week and so on till I got to 25mg of CYTOMEL safely. I took this dose (25mg cytomel and 100mcg of levoxyl) for about a month and felt much better..
Avatar n tn Perhaps I got it wrong. But my daughter's on the cytomel and the question remains the same.
Avatar m tn Free T3 is the hormone your individual cells, actually, use, whereas Free T4 is a “storage” hormone and must be converted to T3 prior to use.
Avatar n tn 9, he decided to change my synthroid to 100 much and added Cytomel 5mcg twice a day. I’m not familiar with Cytomel, will the addition of this medicine compensate reducing my synthroid? Will it help with my Simptoms? Thank you!
Avatar f tn My TSH is a 0.04. TSH is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone. My doc doesn't treat according to TSH. My frees are in the top 1/3. That's what's important. I'm glad your doc is giving you Cytomel. Here's a tip, break up the pill. I take one half in the AM with my Synthroid and 1/2 around 2 pm. I wait an hour before eating anything after I take my Cytomel. Also, if you take it too late in the evening, you will have trouble falling asleep .
Avatar n tn Because you are putting the actual active hormone into your system with cytomel. With combo med or t4 meds your body has to convert it and work at it. Your adrenals are major stress glands and are very sensitive believe it or not to the body over working itself. If they are already weak, then any amount of stress or extra work will tear them down even further. That is my take on it anyway.
Avatar f tn Cytomel is a T3 med, which is generally used when one does not properly convert the storage hormone T4 to the usable hormone T3. As you have experienced, it can cause very serious symptoms if not needed. The dosage/need for cytomel would be based on your FT3 levels. Do you have lab results that you can post here, along with the reference ranges? These vary from lab to lab and must come from your own report. Labs from both, before and after the cytomel, would be great.
Avatar f tn Initally - going on a T3 med - Cytomel in addition to the Synthroid - you will feel great - then crash. This applies to natural thyroid combo meds too. T3 hormone is direct - which means your body accepts it immediately. You expressed you felt aweful prior to starting Cytomel - so that says you were hypothyroid and wanted direct T3. Well, you gave the body - what it needed - but it wants more. This is proven on your FT3 lab - the only thing is this is an old lab so one can only assume.
Avatar f tn What are your current thyroid hormone levels? What were they when you were started on cytomel? Please post the results, and be sure to include reference ranges, since those vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report. Acid reflux is a symptom of hypo. Do you eat a good lunch, or skip meals? I get nauseous if I let myself get too hungry.
1484208 tn?1288454979 I have had my total thyroidectomy 3 weeks agofor multifocal and node extension cancer and am on the cytomel for 2 weeks now. My scalp appears to have a rash on it and is very dry and I am having hair loss. Is this related to the medication or the change in my hormones? I am getting very self conscious. What can I do? Has anyone else had these symptoms?
Avatar f tn It states on T3 5mcg RF Capsules. I felt better than I had ever had when I first started Cytomel Over a year ago, but within a couple of months I had a lot big heart jumps (wasn't palpitations). So tried armour, but since I am so sensitive, I couldn't regulate, but I didn't have the heart jumps. Now back on Levoxyl for a little over 3 months, depression is back, arm pain (fairly intense at times for the last 2 months which I wrote a separate post).
Avatar m tn t necessarily have to stop TTC just because you start cytomel, but you should stop TTC until your thyroid hormone levels are high enough to support a pregnancy, since adequate thyroid hormones are necessary for the growth and development of a fetus. Your FT4 is higher than it needs to be, while your FT3 is on the floor of the range, so I think the addition of cytomel would be a good idea. 5 mcg ctyomel is a very low dose and it's always best to start low and work up if necessary.
Avatar f tn I am taking less hormone now than before. Down from 150 Synthroid/ 10 Cytomel to 125 Synthroid/ 2.5 Cytomel. It could very well be due to the fact that my GI tract is clearing up without gluten. Good T3 conversion depends on a healthy GI tract. However, my antibody attacks have also stopped since giving up gluten. They start again if I drink caffeine or eat chocolate. Sigh. I'm learning how to live without. Sorry about your GI tract.
Avatar n tn t answer your specific question about the conversion to synthroid/cytomel, but I have to ask - about a generic for cytomel? According to both my endo and pharmacist, there is no generic for cytomel......
Avatar n tn When TSH is too high Cytomel dose might be too low. If TSH was optimal F/T-3 would be high and F/T-4 low. Cytomel may decrease T4. I don't think your Cytomel/Synthroid ratio is correct. Unless other things are going on; you didn't care to share your levels.(?) T3 dose should be split and taken every 6 to 8 hour interval, if not time released. For instance, if the dose is 25 mcg, then take 5 mcg. pills, four times a day or every 6 hours.
Avatar f tn My doc just put me on cytomel. She said to take it with Armour. Something about I need more t3ort4.. Can someone explain? And, I hear you guys talk about " grains ". What is a grain? I am on 60 mg of Armour and 5 mcg cytomel. My TSH came down from 7.04 to 1.92 in first 6 weeks of Armour only..that's good right? She said my TPO was 45 though....? Help.
Avatar f tn Treating the FT4 and FT3 levels is the right way. My TSH is a 0.01. TSH is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone. I am wondering why no FT3 testing? FreeT3 is the active thyroid hormone. Testing those FT3 levels should be first before taking you off of Cytomel. Also, many hypos (and I'm assuming you have Hashimoto's and have had the TGab and TPOab antibody tests) will also have adrenal fatigue. Get the 24 hour saliva test to confirm. Finally, I do not eat gluten.
Avatar m tn t have every symptom in the book, I noticed you mixed up your medications a little, Cytomel is T3 and Synthroid is T4, Has your MD done the Free T3 and Free T4 thyroid hormone tests? If not, I don't have to much respect for your MD, Without thyroid production, he should be checking your levels with these tests every six weeks not every three months, there was no reason at all to allow your levels to drop low enough to have a TSH that high.
Avatar m tn The endo told me I should try a half dose of the cytomel. That made no difference. Now she told me to quit the cytomel and see if that helps. Now I am getting a light period..... What she told me is that if cutting out the cytomel doesn't work than I will probably have to quit the bc pill. Is there any problem with these 3 medications together? She won't let me try the natural thyroid because she said if I have bleeding problems, natural could make it worse. What should I do?
