My head hair loss has continued and expanded to legs, arms eyebrows and eyelashes- with increased facial hair. I have new hair growth on my head but the overall hair count continues to decrease as the new growth cannot keep up with the loss. Scalp is visible over my entire head. I also experience occasional heart palpitations, although not as significant as pre-thyroidectomy when my T3 and T4 were in the 60's and 70's range and experiencing thyroid storms (oh boy!).
I have been on it for just under 6 months and prior to that was off all meds for right around six weeks. I have been losing the hair at my temples for the past two months and new hair growth is brittle and poorly rooted. I have been doing A LOT of reading on Synthroid and it's possible link to hair loss. Can anyone share further information with me regarding this? Has anyone experienced a decrease in hair loss on a T/3 T/4? I did not experience this before I switched over.

I am on t3 and t4 (Cytomel and Lyvoxl) and losing hair. Washing my hair (normally long and thick) yesterday, a nest the size of a golf ball came out. My scalp itches terribly and I am literally tearing my hair out. Most of the itching is at the crown, more on the right side than the left, and I'm getting a bald spot there. But all of the crown area has definitely thinned. I am on bio-idential HRT program which has been working well for two years.

I will suggest what you said to my dr. I tried the cytomel/syntroid combo and my prior doctor just wasn't knowledgeable enough to get me to the right dosage. It truly was a nightmare. I was moody, low libido, super tired or super wired, lost lots of weight, my hair was dry as well as my nails and skin. It was a rough time for me. My new Dr, claims that she wants to raise my tsh because right now it is low.
How long should I wait before starting cytomel. Backing down from 112mg tirosint to 100mg. Was previously on 100, but t4 levels were below midrange and t3 below. T4 levels now above midrange and t3 levels below. I tried starting 5mcg cytomel after 1 week but having issues tolerating it. I'm having horrible issues with hairloss too. My hair volume has decreased in half. Is that from the chronically low t3?? I have a history of not doing well with t3 meds.
That was a pretty drastic change in Cytomel. You only lost 10 lbs, and he cut your Cytomel in half. Hair loss is often the last symptom to go away. The body heals the more crucial systems first. Hair loss is reactive and often has more to do with what was going on a month or six weeks ago than what is happening today.
Is your doctor testing FREE T3 and FREE T4? Please post labs and reference ranges from before he reduced your meds if you have them.
Depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy will you notice a difference. The prenatal vitamins they say help with hair growth, however I believe its more hormonal changes within you. When you notice your hair growing you will also notice your nails growing faster than usual. I have been taking prenatal vitamins for only 3-4 wks... I would say its more hormonal changes than the vitamins, for myself atleast.

If you take prenatal vitamins they are rich in folic acid and B vitamins which are great for your baby and have a side effect of increasing your hair growth rate as well as its thickness. Didn't think that your hair was supposed to grow faster I just thought that you didn't lose as Much hair due to it shedding
