Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel for fibromyalgia

cytomel

Avatar m tn Hello, I've recently added in cytomel (liothyronine) in with my synthroid in hopes of alleviating some hypo symptoms! background: hypothyroid since i was 25 (am now 30). generally i feel best when my tsh is around 1.5. when it increases i get increased fatigue and tingling in my face and i usually just know. for the past year i've had widespread muscle pain. i've been fully checked out, there are no joint issues, it is the muscles that have pain. it comes and goes.
Avatar n tn Saw rheumatologist today for fibromyalgia, but only 2 pressure points? (He pressured on my neck where I have some swollen lymph nodes???) I've never had fibro symptoms before?. I felt great before I lost my thyroid and now I feel progressively like poop. Cortisol stimulation test normal...aldosterone normal....potassium back to normal....4..2..MRI normal, CT scan normal.
Avatar f tn 0 is on the hypo side. Cytomel only for a short period is the standard treatment for reverse T3. After the RT3 clears, then go back to taking thyroid med with some T4 in it or a combo of T3 / T4.
Avatar f tn thanks Ericamegan, I will definitely ask for the Free T3, it's only been 2 weeks on cytomel so I am hoping to feel better soon!
21352 tn?1196462738 For every 5 mcg of cytomel you reduce t4 med by 20 mcg. Hang in there!
Avatar f tn I know Cytomel is supplement for T3 and stronger. If anyone has experiences with Cytomel, your input is greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn How long have you been on the thyroid medication? The cytomel could give you the hot feeling, if the dosage is too high, but 5 mcg is a pretty small dose, as is 25 mcg levo. It does take time for the medication to build in your system and it's not unusual for symptoms to worsen or for new ones to show up, as your body adjusts to the medication. Please post the actual results of your thyroid tests and be sure to include reference ranges, which vary lab to lab.
Avatar n tn Why don't you see how the Cytomel goes for a while - you may find that the added T3 now - could help rid those pesty symptoms. You could see if you feel better trying a magnesium supplement too. Both the constipation and aches may get better with taking that.
Avatar n tn Anxiety is a side effect of Cytomel. Why are you on Cytomel alone and not combined with a T4 med? You should not be as anxious as you are. Do you know hat your free T3, free T4 and TSH were prior to starting Cytomel? Do you take your Cytomel in one dose or split it?
Avatar n tn This is the worst symptom I have had. It all started after taking hydrocortisone for my very low cortisol levels and Cytomel. Now the endo wants me to only take the Cytomel for my Reverse T3. The rining seemed to get worse. I really don't know what to do at this point. I felt like I had so much energy on hydrocortisone and I only took that for 1 week. I am beginning to think I am allergic to something in the pills. Do they have a bioidentical Cytomel.
545991 tn?1214437112 I have been on synthroid for over two-years and at one time I tried to take Armour but experienced horrible tight calf' pain on my legs and I don't think I lost weight. Why did I have the pain?
1094370 tn?1317134825 I have been battling this now for about 1.5 years and that above anything else is what drives me insane. I want to know if this is a common thyroid problem (my numbers are within normal ranges but some are at the bottom of the range). I've listed my numbers before and my doctors say within normal. Anyhow, just curious if any of you experience this besides me and sleepy mama.? I can go a few days without it and then days like today I wake up with it and have it all day long….
Avatar f tn Started on 150 and reduced to 137, not due to have more labs til mid March and for the last few days have severe muscle aches and joint pain with upper back pain. I have fibromyalgia but this is way different. Feels like 3 cases of the flu. Has anyone had similar symptoms?
Avatar f tn Hi, I have many symptoms of hypothyroid but my thyroid levels are normal, so my physician prescribed low-dose (5mg) Cytomel in the hopes of alleviating my symptoms. Has anyone taken Cytomel (not the sustained-release form, just the regular instant-release form) for Wilson's Syndrome? If so, could you please share your story? Did Cytomel work? Did you try the sustained-released form of T3?
Avatar f tn My family doctor reluctantly agreed to let me start the Cytomel again. My psychiatrist started me on 25 mcg of Cytomel. I felt better for one day, and then everything went down hill. I started having night sweats, shaking, constantly sweating during the day, chills, some wheezing at night when laying down, and a productive cough. My temperature never went higher than 99.0 F.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed thyroid issues for a little over 20 yrs now, at first it was hyperthyroid and next hypothyroid. It seems that after several years of taking the synthroid and various other meds I am having worse issues than before I started them. Is anyone else finding this to be their case as well.
Avatar n tn I sent you a PM more specifically about RAI and thryogen, but yes. After my TT I was started on Cytomel only, in preparation for RAI. It's a weird drug but for the most part I did fine on it. It stays in your system for a matter of hours not days or weeks. And therefore it's the perfect drug pre-RAI.
Avatar f tn Did he tell you to lower your Synthroid at the same time as adding the Cytomel? How much Cytomel did he prescribe?
Avatar f tn I had a TT in October for papillary carcinoma. This was followed by RAI even though the nodule was small (12mm) and had not spread to the lymph nodes. After RAI, I was put on 125mcg L-thyroxine and up to 75mcg cytomel a day. As I tapered off the cytomel, my hypothyroidism symptoms began to return. Blood work was done (TSH 0.03) and my doctor's PA reduced by L-thyroxine to 116mcg per day and by then I was totally off cytomel anyway.
Avatar f tn I was only on the cytomel for 4 weeks. I started at 25mcg, then went to 12.5mcg, then 6.25mcg. I kept going lower because I was having hyper symptoms.
Avatar m tn He does lots of research and writtings on it and on Fibromyalgia (also related to thyroid). He is the editor and chief of ThyroidScience.com and wrote a book for doctors called "The Metabolic Treatment of Fibromyalgia." He can relate as he is also hypothyroid. My daughter had issues with her heart last year (PVC's) as she had low available t3. Her pediatric endo. would always increase her t4 Synthroid and never check her t3 level.
Avatar f tn Ask for the cytomel in 5 mcg tabs - then you can split the dosage much easier.......Mine are 5 mcg, which worked out perfectly when I was on 10 mcg/day - I could take one first thing in the morning, then another later in the morning, without having to split pills. Now that I'm down to 5 mcg/day, I still don't have to split the pills - they just last twice as long......... To get the 12.5, you will have to go with 1.5 pill twice/day, unless you can get it dropped to just 10 mcg/day.....
