Cytomel for anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel for anxiety

cytomel

Avatar n tn Anxiety is a side effect of Cytomel. Why are you on Cytomel alone and not combined with a T4 med? You should not be as anxious as you are. Do you know hat your free T3, free T4 and TSH were prior to starting Cytomel? Do you take your Cytomel in one dose or split it?
458072 tn?1291415186 Has anyone used Cytomel for anxiety? If so, would you mind sharing your experiences. I am having major anxiety and wondered if this would be of any benefit. Thanks for your input.
Avatar f tn s starting dose of Cytomel was too high for me, and since most here do well on Armour, I opted for it. I do not have any regrets, as far as my thyroid is concerned I beleive I am symptom free for the most part, I still have sleeping issues, but I have other issues involved in that.I am taking 3/4 of a 90 in the AM and 3/4 in the afternoon, but because of Hashi's progression that could change in the future.
Avatar n tn m not convinced you need more Cytomel. As you said, when you upped the Cytomel to 20 mcg this week, the anxiety kicked up, and that's exactly what I would expect doubling your dose of Cytomel to do. How do you take your Cytomel? Do you split the pill and take it in two separate doses? Armour would probably not be a better choice...Armour has lots of T3 (4-5 T4 to 1 T3) compared to what the normally functioning human thyroid would have (20 T4 to 1 T3).
Avatar n tn I thank everyone for their imput. I am going to try and get my insurance to cover the Tirosint, and try again, with the Cytomel. I did some reading on Erfa, how its more consistant then Armour, which I also have a script for. I will run that by the Endo, as well. In the meantime, I will try the Tirosint/Cytomel combo first, and let you guys know how I fare with it all. I am still quite puffy, exhuasted and barely able to get out of my own way on just the Synthroid.
1369218 tn?1282423884 I have been having pretty bad insomnia and anxiety after starting the Cytomel. Does anyone have advice on taking Synthroid with armour. I am afraid to switch completely off of Synthroid because when my T4 drops I get really achey. I also know that there is less T4 in armour or the dessicated version. Does anyone have suggestions so that I can get my extra T3 needed? I do not convert on the Synthroid alone. My last test results were: Tsh .999 (.45-4.5) Free T3 3.3 (2.0-4.4) Free T4 1.
Avatar f tn My family doctor reluctantly agreed to let me start the Cytomel again. My psychiatrist started me on 25 mcg of Cytomel. I felt better for one day, and then everything went down hill. I started having night sweats, shaking, constantly sweating during the day, chills, some wheezing at night when laying down, and a productive cough. My temperature never went higher than 99.0 F.
Avatar n tn When I began this journey, I realized I had found the answer to my problems when on various t4 meds(unithroid/levothroid) I would experience a resolution of symptoms that would come and go (one time anxiety was resolved for half a day-other times mental symptoms resolved almost completely for a few hours). Anyway, since then, my doctor has switched me over to cytomel and synthroid.
Avatar n tn Not sure where this post will end up. I recently added Cytomel to my Synthroid. Previously, I was taking Synthroid 112mcg 6 x weekly. Dr. reduced to 88 mcg, 7 x and Cytomel 5 mg 2 x daily. The full 5 mg cause real anxiety and palpatations. I was told I could split the pill (challenging! lol) and so far, I am taking only 2.5 approx, once in the am. Will the anxiety settle down? I am considering taking Xanax to level out, as I am not feeling so great, with the edginess.
Avatar f tn I know Cytomel is supplement for T3 and stronger. If anyone has experiences with Cytomel, your input is greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I feel that the medician was causeing me to have these thoughts so on my own I stoped taking the cytomel and have been off of it for three weeks or so and all the bad thoughts of suicide have gone away and I dont get as upset as easy as I did before. Could it really be the mediciane? Im scared to tell my Doctor about this because who really wants to tell there Doctor they feel that mediciane is causing suicidal thoughts. could you please help?
Avatar f tn Recently I’m gaining weight, extreme water retnejnv and feeling anxiety. My dr told me to reduce the cytomel to 10mcg in morning and 5 mcg at night. I’m just so confused by my numbers. Can someone please help? I took one full day off the meds and lost 5 lbs.
Avatar f tn I started on synthroid 150mcg daily and cytomel 5mg twice daily, then 112 mcg of synthroid and same cytomel, now 125mcg synthroid with same cytomel. My anxiety has been terrible, esp. since switching to synthroid. I have never felt well since Thyroidectomy but hoping and praying I can feel better than this. My Endo thinks my numbers are fine. I have an appt. with a new Endo in January who was recommended by a Naturopath because he treats by symptoms and doesnt just go by TSH.
Avatar f tn 1. How long does it take for the thryoid levels to return back to where they were. And how long do these symptoms last. 2. Was 25 mcg of cytomel a normal amount to add to 0.2 mg of levothroxine.. one other thing - the cytomel was added to increase the effectiveness of antidepressents.
Avatar m tn I have been on a Synthroid/Cytomel combo for 10+ years, and it has worked great for me. The only possible side effect was that my resting heart rate was running 90-105 for the last few years. Over the last year, I've been slowly building up with new hyper symptoms and annual lab tests confirmed that my T3 level was too high. Most frustrating symptoms are heat intolerance, insomnia, and lifestyle-altering anxiety.
407745 tn?1230850087 t believe it would hurt to not take the cytomel until you spoke to your doctor. I was on cytomel alone and it gave me a very bad reaction, anxiety, heart palpitations and I quit taking it. I am on just synthroid and seems to be working ok. Can you tell me what dose of synthroid and cytomel you are taking?
Avatar n tn Hi, I recently began having irregular heartbeats after being on cytomel 50mcg for 2 weeks. It initially started about a week after taking the drug, but has continually worsened. My doctor took me off of it on Monday and I had blood tests ran Tuesday. I have an appt with a cardiologist for an echo. My question is, if the cytomel was indeed not needed and my current TSH is 0.01, FreeT3 is 2.9 and FT4 is 0.8, will this normalize without more meds?
909086 tn?1242660764 I was put on Cytomel and temporarily taken off Synthroid to get my tsh up for the purpose of a whole body scan and while on Cytomel I noticed that I felt much better and seemed to enjoy much more in life. It took some hassle and finally had to go to an Endocrinologist about 175 miles from my home but he put me on 224 mcg Synthroid and 50 mcg Cytomel daily. The combination makes me feel much better than I did, however I have noticed that it isn't perfect.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have many symptoms of hypothyroid but my thyroid levels are normal, so my physician prescribed low-dose (5mg) Cytomel in the hopes of alleviating my symptoms. Has anyone taken Cytomel (not the sustained-release form, just the regular instant-release form) for Wilson's Syndrome? If so, could you please share your story? Did Cytomel work? Did you try the sustained-released form of T3?
Avatar f tn How long should I wait before starting cytomel. Backing down from 112mg tirosint to 100mg. Was previously on 100, but t4 levels were below midrange and t3 below. T4 levels now above midrange and t3 levels below. I tried starting 5mcg cytomel after 1 week but having issues tolerating it. I'm having horrible issues with hairloss too. My hair volume has decreased in half. Is that from the chronically low t3?? I have a history of not doing well with t3 meds.
Avatar n tn I have been taking 75mg of Cytomel for 4 weeks now to help with my depression, I do not have a thyroid problem. I am alslo taking 300mg of Welbutron and 75 of Effexor. How do I know if it is working? I sweat allot, I and I am not losing any weight (doctor told me I would) Can anybody answer my question.
