cytomel

8382486 tn?1397856353 Free T4 1.35 / Free T3 2.8 / TSH 0.03. I have read pages and pages and blogs and boards and everything else I can get my hands on about thryoid meds and am so confused. I feel marginally better taking the Cytomel but dont know when to take it, with or without food, with or without my Synthroid. Im back to work now and looking for a routine that I can keep to as far as taking the meds, some energy back in my life and the right questions to ask the MD or requests to make about medication changes.
Avatar f tn You can get Cytomel, or generic, in 5 mcg tablet. That should be a small enough increment for you to titrate your dosage slowly. With that small amount, why would you need to go to a TR version? Did the hives show up right after you switched?
Avatar f tn Patience is not my long suit. But as soon as Endo saw this, he increase my generic Cytomel to your dosage 5 mcg twice a day. He did not touch the T4 despite the low level. Hopefully this will work for me as well. Thanks for your thoughts. Always appreciated. My question was just about the unusual jump from 5 to 25 by the manufacturer. I realize just add another but was curious about those who need more than 10. I guess 25 would be good if someone needs 50mcg a day.
Avatar f tn and she mentioned maybe adding Cytomel. My question is this, I just read that I should be splitting dosage and chewing tablet. Both which I have never done. If I start splitting, is there any reason this might affect my weight as in gain? Could adding the Cytomel make a difference also?
Avatar n tn You might consider going up to 5mcg's of Cytomel. Usually the dosage of Cytomel is 5-10% of the T4 dosage and at 2.5 you are taking less than that. Plus, your free t3 has room to move up. Most feel best with a free t3 over 350.
Avatar f tn After having two thyroidectomies and radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer (1997), I have been on 75 mcg of cytomel for 13 years. My new doctor wants to lower my dosage significantly because she says my tsh level is too low. I have already changed to 50 mcg daily. I am afraid to go any lower. What should I do?
332168 tn?1201026915 Currently I take 137 of Levothyroxine and 25 mcg of Cytomel. I was taking a half tablet in the morning and once in the early afternoon, but I couldn't manage to remember to take the afternoon dose in a timely fashion, and sometimes was kept up at night. I asked my doctor about just upping the Levo and dropping the cytomel, but he seems to think that it's best I'm on both. So I now take the entire dose in the morning and I find this works great for me.
Avatar f tn 4.51 m[IU]/L 0.36 - 3.74 m[IU]/L- TSH THYROXINE FREE 1.05 ng/dL 0.76 - 1.46 ng/dL- Free T4 She decided that malabsorption must be playing a role in high doses with minimal response. She had me see a GI to get tested for Celiac. 3 of the 4 tests came back positive. However, the endoscopy did not show any signs of damage at this point that would be preventing me from absorbing or continuing to eat Gluten (I do not have negative physical symptoms from consuming gluten).
Avatar f tn Hi! I am to start cytomel ( T3). My endo has suggested it with my checkup, I have been SO fatigued ( feeling like I am walking in wet cement), big weight gain ( no energy to exercise), extreme hair loss. She says will also most likely increase my synthyroid too, but one thing at a time. I am going back in two weeks, so I will get copies of my labs ( forgot this time) but she said my TSH was very normal range, free T3 very low, Free T4 low.
Avatar f tn What are your thyroid hormone levels? You're taking 5 mcg generic T3 - are you splitting a 5 mcg tablet so you're taking 2.5 mcg at a time or are you taking a whole 5 mcg tablet 2 times/day for a total of 10 mcg/day? Please be more specific about your dose. How long after you took the dose did you get tired? Are you taking a T4 thyroid medication with the T3?
Avatar f tn Sorry, Im not very familiar with these numbers. I was unclear on the difference so I will say Total T3. I just saw the range was 0.04-0.57. I didn't know that that wasn't my actual number. The cytomel dosage is 5 mcg daily. My T4 was orginally way too low but bc I had been taken a higher dosage of levo it shot thru the roof and my level was too high. Im not sure of the number. I felt fine on the high dosage but the doc said it was dangerous.
2033435 tn?1329943508 5 (32-100) ~ low Will the dosage I was supposed to take improve my labs and feeling? (upping Cytomel only, not adding T4 at all). On the wrong dose, I still felt tired although better than before... probably because the RT3 got normal again. I inquired about the low T4 and he almost wanted to add Armour to Cytomel, but I said I didn't feel well on it. He said okay, Cytomel only is fine, he said T4 should not worry me (even though it's low). He told me to take iron and vitamin D...
Avatar m tn Your FT4 is close to the top of the range, so I think you're absolutely right...you shouldn't increase your T4 meds. I'd try adding a direct source of T3 (Cytomel). As a first step, I'd lower T4 meds to 125 mcg and add in 5 mcg Cytomel split into two doses, one first thing in the morning and one later in the day (you'll have to play with timing to see what works best for you and your lifestyle schedule).
Avatar f tn When do you take your cytomel? Do you take the whole 15 mcg at the same time or do you split the dosage into more than one throughout the day? It's odd that the hypoglycemia only happens at night, so I'm wondering if you really have reactive hypoglycemia or if it's really related to thyroid hormones.
Avatar f tn I agree with barb about how to take Cytomel. I just have to question the meds and dosage. Why did the doctor decide to prescribe Cytomel only and why start with such a large amount? The daily dosage of 50 mcg of Cytomel is the equivalent of 200 mcg of a T4 med. In addition, Cytomel (T3) is such a fast acting med that I can easily envision unwanted reactions. Many of our members report on adverse reaction to such a large dosage.
Avatar n tn She has had me taking various levels of Synthroid and one Cytomel tablet daily for the two years I have been seeing me. She requests that I get my TSH tested nearly every 5 weeks and nearly every time the dosage needs to be adjusted. My sister and my dad both have hypothyroidism also, but they only have the levels checked about once a year. My question is: Does it seem normal that my thyroid meds should need to be adjusted constantly?
1040628 tn?1268654906 Maybe he wants to see how you go on Cytomel. And yes it is correct that T3 supplements can cause hyper and arrythmias. It all depends on the dosage and the person in particular. Some do great on Cytomel..some dont. Take the T4 med for 4-6 weeks...check to see if the T4 is converting to T3 and if not, then ask for Cytomel too. Maybe your labs showed your T3 too high and your T4 a fraction low??? What was your last labs?
Avatar f tn He added 1/2 of a 25 mcg tablet of Cytomel ONCE a day and lowered my Synthroid to .75 mcg. I just started yesterday and after reading some things on the internet, I decided to take the half of pill - one half at a time - morning and afternoon. So, I am taking a little over 6 mcg twice a day. I don't want to get any heart palpitations and hoping the Cytomel can help me feel better. I am basically exhausted, just feel flu-like, hard to function or want to do anything.
