Cytomel dosage for women

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel dosage for women

cytomel

Avatar n tn You might consider going up to 5mcg's of Cytomel. Usually the dosage of Cytomel is 5-10% of the T4 dosage and at 2.5 you are taking less than that. Plus, your free t3 has room to move up. Most feel best with a free t3 over 350.
Avatar f tn After having two thyroidectomies and radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer (1997), I have been on 75 mcg of cytomel for 13 years. My new doctor wants to lower my dosage significantly because she says my tsh level is too low. I have already changed to 50 mcg daily. I am afraid to go any lower. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Yes, I was on 200mcg Liothyroine for two years, I'm pretty sure many doctors won't recommend you to be on that high dosage of T3 only medication for longer time. I switched to 160mg Armour thyroid, which worked for me. Why are you on Cytomel? For me, I had problems in converting T4 into T3 Later on my doctor figured out my ferritin was too low, so when it went back to optimal level I could switch to Armour.
2033435 tn?1329943508 5 (32-100) ~ low Will the dosage I was supposed to take improve my labs and feeling? (upping Cytomel only, not adding T4 at all). On the wrong dose, I still felt tired although better than before... probably because the RT3 got normal again. I inquired about the low T4 and he almost wanted to add Armour to Cytomel, but I said I didn't feel well on it. He said okay, Cytomel only is fine, he said T4 should not worry me (even though it's low). He told me to take iron and vitamin D...
Avatar f tn Sorry, Im not very familiar with these numbers. I was unclear on the difference so I will say Total T3. I just saw the range was 0.04-0.57. I didn't know that that wasn't my actual number. The cytomel dosage is 5 mcg daily. My T4 was orginally way too low but bc I had been taken a higher dosage of levo it shot thru the roof and my level was too high. Im not sure of the number. I felt fine on the high dosage but the doc said it was dangerous.
Avatar f tn Ask for the cytomel in 5 mcg tabs - then you can split the dosage much easier.......Mine are 5 mcg, which worked out perfectly when I was on 10 mcg/day - I could take one first thing in the morning, then another later in the morning, without having to split pills. Now that I'm down to 5 mcg/day, I still don't have to split the pills - they just last twice as long......... To get the 12.5, you will have to go with 1.5 pill twice/day, unless you can get it dropped to just 10 mcg/day.....
Avatar f tn I just had my thyroidectomy a week and a half ago and got my prescription for cytomel. My prescription is for 25 mcg every twelve hours and my doctor said to take it on an empty stomach (4 hours w/o food), no solids for the first hour after taking it, and no calcium or citrus for four hours afterwards. AHHH! How do I do this? I can deal with no milk in my morning coffee, but what about dinner? Any advice or help? I think that this is just until my RAI in a month or so. THANKS!
Avatar f tn Patience is not my long suit. But as soon as Endo saw this, he increase my generic Cytomel to your dosage 5 mcg twice a day. He did not touch the T4 despite the low level. Hopefully this will work for me as well. Thanks for your thoughts. Always appreciated. My question was just about the unusual jump from 5 to 25 by the manufacturer. I realize just add another but was curious about those who need more than 10. I guess 25 would be good if someone needs 50mcg a day.
Avatar f tn My family doctor reluctantly agreed to let me start the Cytomel again. My psychiatrist started me on 25 mcg of Cytomel. I felt better for one day, and then everything went down hill. I started having night sweats, shaking, constantly sweating during the day, chills, some wheezing at night when laying down, and a productive cough. My temperature never went higher than 99.0 F.
1040628 tn?1268654906 Maybe he wants to see how you go on Cytomel. And yes it is correct that T3 supplements can cause hyper and arrythmias. It all depends on the dosage and the person in particular. Some do great on Cytomel..some dont. Take the T4 med for 4-6 weeks...check to see if the T4 is converting to T3 and if not, then ask for Cytomel too. Maybe your labs showed your T3 too high and your T4 a fraction low??? What was your last labs?
Avatar n tn There is no way you would become hyper from such a small amount of cytomel. You need to commit to a plan for dosage and increases and stick with it unless there is some unforeseen reaction you cannot tolerate short term, which is not likely with your cortisol and ferritin levels.
454046 tn?1244565593 t sleep part? Welcome to my world, for 2 years now. The cytomel, could be doing that, so you might want to bump up your times. Some of us have that without the cytomel, so you might think back and see that this was a problem before, or not. I wish I could tell you more than that, but it is not a definitive disease for some of us. Darn, can't take a pill, and its fixed. THat would be so nice. God forgive me for taking my good health for granted.....
Avatar f tn TSH: 0.36 - 3.74 m[IU]/L FT4: 0.76 - 1.46 ng/dL FT3: 2.3 - 4.2 pg/mL TT3: 0.60 - 1.81 Test Results and medications below: *5/12/15* 275 mcgs of Levothyroxine (was MISERABLE on this medication. constantly swollen and tired, regardless of the levels over the last 4 years) TSH: 4.69 H TT3: 1.04 FT4: 1.23 *8/03/2015* 175 mcgs of Synthroid + 5 mcg of Cytomel TSH: 23.05 H FT4: .86 *9/23/15* 200 mcgs Synthroid + 5 mcg of Cytomel TSH: 3.61 FT4: 1.
Avatar f tn Would 180 mg be the suggested lowering dosage and then get another blood test? What would you suggest for synthroid/cytomel dosage to start. I tried synthroid in between my armour thyroid and ended up having menstrual bleeding (which I haven't had in quite some time after oblation proceedure ) and having a D&C. I don't know if synthroid caused this and I wasn't on the right dosage or if it was just a coincidence. I am 57 years old.
2194306 tn?1338592996 It was amazing to me how such slight changes made such a big difference in how I felt and also how the lab tests varied. I am now on 150 mcg T4 and 30 mcg Cytomel with FREE labs stabilized in mid-range for T4 and in the upper 3/4 range for T3. Feeling pretty good, but it took a lot of testing to get there. Just a reminder that we shouldn't take our medication before our blood draw, especially with T3. Best to all.
1129774 tn?1279831762 Yes you can take both together, but keep in mind that Cytomel is fast acting and will only be in your system for about 6 hrs or so......I take my first dosage in the am with my sythroid, and my second dosage in the afternoon. I am on 100mcg synthroid and 20mcg cytomel.
Avatar n tn d have to reduce the amount of levo and replace with an equivalent amount of Cytomel (1/4 the Cytomel for the reduction in levo, e.g. drop the levo to 100 mcg and add 12.5 mcg Cytomel).
Avatar n tn Your doctor is doing the right thing by giving you only small increases doses of cytomel at a time. As the others said, T3 med is 4 times more potent that T4. I'm on cytomel because my FT3 wouldn't come up either. I started out on 10 mcg - levo cut back from 100 to 50 mcg at the time. I felt awesome for a while, but then I started having rapid heart rate, palps. etc even though my FT3 was still not even mid range yet and I was having hypo symptoms.
393685 tn?1425812522 What is the comparable dosage requirement from taking Armour thyroid to a Cytomel/Synthroid dosage. If a person was on 1 grain of Armour - what's the equvilant of Cytomel/Synthroid? Does anyone know the bovine ratios - compared to porcine? Either I am missing finding these questions out - or I am just to busy lately with everything else...
Avatar m tn They should habe immediately lowered your levo dosage when they gave you the script for cytomel. Check again on the script for the cytomel. Starting dosage is usually 5mgs two times per day, with lowered dosage of T4 med by 25mcgs I think. Yes it is nice to hear they are jointly working together to get you better!
Avatar n tn m in the normal range. Doctor just put me on Cytomel for insomnia and fatigue. For several days I felt awesome for the first time in years but am but I am starting to feel even more awful then I first did. Could the Cytomel dosage be too high? Has anyone ever experienced this. I'm almost tempted to start cutting my pills in half to try to see if a lower dose helps like it started to.
