Cytomel dosage for hypothyroidism

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel dosage for hypothyroidism

cytomel

Avatar n tn I was not giving a cause for hypothyroidism and I assumed I was just slightly hypothyroid and didn’t think about it again because everything was going well with the medication. I have had iron checked my doctor and all did it at home. Here are the results at 11/23/19: Iron = 130 ug Transferrin Saturation = 43% TIBC = 301 ug Ferritin = 84 ng Is there a chance this mess started with Naturethroid going south (for me at least)?
Avatar n tn If there are NO symptoms of hypothyroidism, but TSH levels are high (T3/T4 normal), is it O.K. not to take Levothyroxine (or other thyroid treatment)? Husband is happy, peaceful, energetic, healthy, in shape, etc. Only "symptoms" of hypothyroidism are high cholesterol and peripheral neuropathy. Both are usually from something else and neither goes away when he takes Levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn s almost unheard of for hypothyroidism, except in a very few circumstances... Protocol calls for, at least a combination of a T4 medication, such as some form of levthyroxine (there are different brands, depending on your location). In addition, 37.5 mcg of cytomel is a very large dose and very few people ever need that much... if you were taking a T4 medication with it, presumably, you'd be converting some of the T4 to T3, as well. Also, are you taking the whole 37.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist suggested that Cytomel may help some with depression and also with the tiredness and sleepiness I have had for years.I went to internet and read about hypothyroidism and how it often is undiagnosed due to normal blood test. Well I was uneasy about the Cytomel at first but when i saw how many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism I have I wondered if that isn't my problem. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia also and wondered if that has anything to do with the thyroid.
Avatar f tn My family doctor reluctantly agreed to let me start the Cytomel again. My psychiatrist started me on 25 mcg of Cytomel. I felt better for one day, and then everything went down hill. I started having night sweats, shaking, constantly sweating during the day, chills, some wheezing at night when laying down, and a productive cough. My temperature never went higher than 99.0 F.
Avatar n tn m in the normal range. Doctor just put me on Cytomel for insomnia and fatigue. For several days I felt awesome for the first time in years but am but I am starting to feel even more awful then I first did. Could the Cytomel dosage be too high? Has anyone ever experienced this. I'm almost tempted to start cutting my pills in half to try to see if a lower dose helps like it started to.
Avatar n tn Are yoiu on any other thyroid meds as well, or just Cytomel? If so, what is your dosage? If not, why are you on T3-only med (Cytomel)? What were your labs a week ago before going on the Cytomel, and were you on any other meds then?
Avatar f tn I have had hypothyroidism for about 14 years, I had quit taking my medication for about 4 years. I was hospitalized with a TSH level of 197. Since then (about 2 years now) my TSH level has varied. I was on 350 mcg of Levoxyl and tested at .9, I was then put on 300 mcg of Levoxyl and tested at 25, then I was put on 350 mcg of Levoxyl and 25 mcg of Cytomel and tested at .003. I am currently on 325 mcg of Levoxyl and 12.5 mcg of Cytomel.
Avatar n tn If you have been going up and down for a while with constant dosage changes for the last year, then an ultrasound would probably be a good idea even though your doctor can't feel any lumps or bumps. You need to get to the bottom of why you can't find a dose that keeps you at a certain level. It's not surprising to me that you are not well versed on your condition. Most of us wouldn't be if we didn't have trouble with our meds.
Avatar f tn After 4 years on Armor thyroid, my MD switched me to synthroid 25 mcg and cytomel 5 mcg 1 bid (tid prn). I am a 50 y.o females who is s/p total hysterectomy for ovarian ca. I take Estratest FS 4 X's week. I am feeling MUCH better with the Synthroid and Cytomel, however, my latest labs have come back as follows: TSH- .062 Free Thyroxin-- 1.
Avatar f tn Let me explain. I don't understand what is going on in my body. When I went to the doc they tested me and found out I had hashimotos Ok the doc told me then that my levels were fine and I didn't need meds. Ok so I became more and more ill. I was told I had depression and put on anti depressants which was horrible. I don't ever want to go through those ever again. Still I'm confused because no one is explaining anything to me. I was on 50 mcg of levothyroxine for six months.
Avatar m tn I am a 39yo female that has been on medication for hypothyroidism for a year so far. I currently take 10mcg Cytomel & 100mcg Synthroid. I recently had my blood work done. I have had my vitamin & iron levels checked & everything was fine except for B12 & I now do shots for that. TSH = .84 MIU/L 0.40-4.50 Free T4 = 1.1 NG/DL 0.8-1.8 Free T3 = 2.6 PG/ML 2.3-4.2 When I had my blood drawn 6 weeks the doctor increased my Cytomel from 5mcg to 10mcg that I am currently on.
1004097 tn?1251117610 30 am), then I take the cytomel about 7:00 am to help me get through the day. I take my blood pressure med at the same time I take my cytomel, but benazepril is not a beta blocker, it's an ACE inhibitor. T4 and T3 meds are NOT the same thing. T3 is the "body ready" hormone, meaning that's the form that your body actually uses.
Avatar f tn I have read a lot about Maca how it is suppose to naturally balance your hormones without having any hormones in it, good for bones etc . I took it for a while then I was told that it may not be good for some thyroid patients hence I was told "While maca root is generally beneficial for users with thyroid problems, individuals suffering from Hashimoto's hypothyroidism are encouraged to avoid maca root and use black currant oil instead. According to user feedback posted on SoulCysters.
534785 tn?1329592208 If this is the case the Levothyroxine should be lowered and Cytomel added - Cytomel is Liothyronine the active T3. Talk to an endocrinologist.
Avatar n tn You might consider going up to 5mcg's of Cytomel. Usually the dosage of Cytomel is 5-10% of the T4 dosage and at 2.5 you are taking less than that. Plus, your free t3 has room to move up. Most feel best with a free t3 over 350.
Avatar f tn After having two thyroidectomies and radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer (1997), I have been on 75 mcg of cytomel for 13 years. My new doctor wants to lower my dosage significantly because she says my tsh level is too low. I have already changed to 50 mcg daily. I am afraid to go any lower. What should I do?
Avatar f tn TSH: 0.36 - 3.74 m[IU]/L FT4: 0.76 - 1.46 ng/dL FT3: 2.3 - 4.2 pg/mL TT3: 0.60 - 1.81 Test Results and medications below: *5/12/15* 275 mcgs of Levothyroxine (was MISERABLE on this medication. constantly swollen and tired, regardless of the levels over the last 4 years) TSH: 4.69 H TT3: 1.04 FT4: 1.23 *8/03/2015* 175 mcgs of Synthroid + 5 mcg of Cytomel TSH: 23.05 H FT4: .86 *9/23/15* 200 mcgs Synthroid + 5 mcg of Cytomel TSH: 3.61 FT4: 1.
Avatar f tn How long have you been on the thyroid medication? The cytomel could give you the hot feeling, if the dosage is too high, but 5 mcg is a pretty small dose, as is 25 mcg levo. It does take time for the medication to build in your system and it's not unusual for symptoms to worsen or for new ones to show up, as your body adjusts to the medication. Please post the actual results of your thyroid tests and be sure to include reference ranges, which vary lab to lab.
Avatar f tn Yes. Taking too much levothyroxine for hypothyroidism can push you into hyperthyroidism. Some people mistakenly think that being hyperthyroid will give you lots of energy, when in fact the increased metabolism can make you very tired. A lot of people will lose weight being hyperthyroid, but there are many who gain weight instead, due to the increased appetite and tiredness. Are you taking only levothyroxine? That's a low TSH for someone not taking a T3 med, which suppresses TSH.
Avatar f tn Hair loss is due to hypothyroidism and it could take a while for it stop. The body has a tendency to correct the more important body processes first and hair loss isn't one of those, even though it is, psychologically. Additionally, 5 mcg is a very small dosage, so it might not do much, very quickly. It might take a higher dose... How long have you been on the cytomel? You should ask your doctor to allow testing sooner than Dec 5.
Avatar n tn Hi quick question due to my symptoms my endocrinologist decides to put me on Cytomel along with my synthroid. 3 months ago these were my results. T3 feee was 3.0. Standard range for my lab is 2.0-4.4. My TSH was 1.09. Standard.450-4.5. Free T4 was 1.57 standard.82-1.77. These were my results before adding the cytomel. Today these are my results. T3 2.4, TSH 1.38 and Free T4 .99. I want to know if I’m moving in the right direction?
Avatar f tn I have been taking Synthroid for 25 years. I was on 125 MCG until the latest TSH showed 5.10. Now I'm taking 137 MCG for 10 days, and I look and feel nervous, aggitated and just not good. I've noticed some hair loss lately. I want to try Armour but my Dr. doesn't seem to think it is easy to regulate. I'm looking for a good Endocronoligist but the one I was referred to does not take Medicare patients.....so, I have to continue my search.
