I am now two months without a cycle, prior to that I had a cycle, two weeks, cycle, two weeks, cycle. Believe it or not, I have been going through this balancing act for about five years after a battle with Graves/Hoshimotos that I couldn't win...had to have my thyroid removed. I have been to numerous doctors and at one point was on 75 synthroid and 30 cytomel, but was so sick. That is when they switched me to Tirosint and reduced my cytomel.
I just got labs back that the new (doubting Thomas) endo ordered, and saw my PCP about them today. This is my new endo, who told me I was probably gaining weight because had a steroid shot in my foot, that by increasing my meds to raise my FREEs, I will give myself a heart attack and am destroying my bones. My PCP just shakes her head, but says she is at the limit of her knowledge about thyroid. She has tested my heart, and it's fine.
So I quit Armour about 9 months ago because I had a horrible reaction to the new formulation. I started back on synthroid and cytomel, but the cytomel made me feel anxious. I stopped the cytomel and had thought I was doing great. I feel better than I had in over a year, but I guess I was feeling so bad before that anything would have been better. I just got my blood test results which I found suprising. My TSH is .049, Free T4 1.52 (72% of range) and my Free T3 283 (only 28% of range.

Still tired and not feeling very well so this is what the doctor is proposing. Continue on 75mc Synthroid and the 5mg (split between 2 doses) from Monday-Saturday. Then on Sunday take 1 1/2 of my 75 mc Synthroid with the cytomel.
Any thoughts on that? Since I'm so sensitive to medications wouldn't it be better for me to take an 88 on Saturday and Sunday? I think it works out to the same dosage over the weekend??
Everything was great until last summer I have been starting to gain weight approximately 10 lbs. and feeling really tired. My doctor raised me to 5mg of cytomel but I didnt feel any better and my free t4 came back low (0.48)so he changed me to 90 mg of Armour in June. I lost 3 lbs but didnt really feel any better still tired. I just had my blood work done and my TSH came in at .04 (from 0.41)free t3 2.8 (from 3.1 when on armour 60 and 5mg cytomel) and my free t4 is 0.68(from 0.
They should habe immediately lowered your levo dosage when they gave you the script for cytomel. Check again on the script for the cytomel. Starting dosage is usually 5mgs two times per day, with lowered dosage of T4 med by 25mcgs I think.

It looks like your Synthroid dose might be a little high; your FT4 is over range. At the same time, your FT3is just midrange, which can be a little low, expecially when coming off NT with its T3 support. It's possible that conversion will kick in and improve if you give it a little time. I've always found that my FT3 lags behind changes in my FT4. On the other hand, you might ask your doctor about decreasing your Synthroid a little and adding in some Cytomel.
Initally - going on a T3 med - Cytomel in addition to the Synthroid - you will feel great - then crash. This applies to natural thyroid combo meds too.
T3 hormone is direct - which means your body accepts it immediately. You expressed you felt aweful prior to starting Cytomel - so that says you were hypothyroid and wanted direct T3. Well, you gave the body - what it needed - but it wants more.
This is proven on your FT3 lab - the only thing is this is an old lab so one can only assume.
I need help deciding what direction to go with thyroid meds. I was previously on tirosint 100mcg and cytomel 5 mcg until march of this year due to insurance no longer covering. I wasn't 100%, but life was tolerable. I switched to levoxyl at same dosage. In july I started to experience hair loss, dizziness, muscle twitches, and sleep became disrupted. I have dealt with burning muscle pain and stiffness in my upper back for years. I had doc appt last week.
I am currently taking 0.05 of synthroid in the am along with 5 cytomel and I take another 5 cytomel in the afternoon. What would you suggest I take to get my FT3 and Ft4 levels up. My symtoms, can't get the weight off and also extremely dry skin, face peeling, lips dry all the time and hair still falling out. Achy leg and hip bones at night.
