The cytomel has proven to be good and as you can see in my labs my t3 is good. I had the same problem even before cytomel. Anxiety with synthroid and itching with levo. I know I need more t4, I just don't know how to go higher without side effects. I'm wondering will the itching go away if I continue to go up, or can I take Xanax together through the anxiety? I need more t4 even though my doc said my labs look great. I'm going to see a doctor on Tuesday that Gimel told me about.
m not convinced you need more Cytomel. As you said, when you upped the Cytomel to 20 mcg this week, the anxiety kicked up, and that's exactly what I would expect doubling your dose of Cytomel to do.
How do you take your Cytomel? Do you split the pill and take it in two separate doses?
Armour would probably not be a better choice...Armour has lots of T3 (4-5 T4 to 1 T3) compared to what the normally functioning human thyroid would have (20 T4 to 1 T3).
5 mcg is the smallest dose of cytomel you can get. You can try quartering the cytomel, though it's rather difficult with those tiny pills. I have done it though. I've never heard of tonsilitis being a side effect of cytomel; do you have a website or anything stating that?
It's not unusual to have symptoms return when changing doses/meds, until your body gets used to them. Even though cytomel is fast acting, it can still take some time to adjust to it.
5 and 10 cytomel caused a tsh over 2, he suggested I take 10 cytomel and 75 of syn every day except sunday than take 1/2 75. This is not a good solution for me because I feel I ahve side effects from the cytomel and my ft3 and ft4 are still lower than when I took straight t4 meds.
I thought a good compromise would be more t4 meds and 5 of cytomel along with a switch to a medicine that worked better for me before like Unithroid.
Not sure where this post will end up. I recently added Cytomel to my Synthroid. Previously, I was taking Synthroid 112mcg 6 x weekly. Dr. reduced to 88 mcg, 7 x and Cytomel 5 mg 2 x daily. The full 5 mg cause real anxiety and palpatations. I was told I could split the pill (challenging! lol) and so far, I am taking only 2.5 approx, once in the am.
Will the anxiety settle down? I am considering taking Xanax to level out, as I am not feeling so great, with the edginess.

1. How long does it take for the thryoid levels to return back to where they were. And how long do these symptoms last.
2. Was 25 mcg of cytomel a normal amount to add to 0.2 mg of levothroxine..
I started on synthroid 150mcg daily and cytomel 5mg twice daily, then 112 mcg of synthroid and same cytomel, now 125mcg synthroid with same cytomel. My anxiety has been terrible, esp. since switching to synthroid. I have never felt well since Thyroidectomy but hoping and praying I can feel better than this. My Endo thinks my numbers are fine. I have an appt. with a new Endo in January who was recommended by a Naturopath because he treats by symptoms and doesnt just go by TSH.
Just started Cytomel 5mcg (split in 2 doses am and pm) because I was having intense brain fog, fatigue, lethargy and weight gain. I'm having palpitations, insomnia, headaches and feel pretty anxious while taking Cytomel. The great thing is that brain fog is gone and I have more energy. Let me know what you think. My doctor is very willing to listen make wise changes. Oh, and I'm pretty physically active, 45 and eat mindfully.
I have been on a Synthroid/Cytomel combo for 10+ years, and it has worked great for me. The only possible side effect was that my resting heart rate was running 90-105 for the last few years. Over the last year, I've been slowly building up with new hyper symptoms and annual lab tests confirmed that my T3 level was too high. Hi, I recently began having irregular heartbeats after being on cytomel 50mcg for 2 weeks. It initially started about a week after taking the drug, but has continually worsened. My doctor took me off of it on Monday and I had blood tests ran Tuesday. I have an appt with a cardiologist for an echo. My question is, if the cytomel was indeed not needed and my current TSH is 0.01, FreeT3 is 2.9 and FT4 is 0.8, will this normalize without more meds?
How long should I wait before starting cytomel. Backing down from 112mg tirosint to 100mg. Was previously on 100, but t4 levels were below midrange and t3 below. T4 levels now above midrange and t3 levels below. I tried starting 5mcg cytomel after 1 week but having issues tolerating it. I'm having horrible issues with hairloss too. My hair volume has decreased in half. Is that from the chronically low t3?? I have a history of not doing well with t3 meds.
I have read that cytomel boost the anti depression medication, when I was first prescribed it I did not take it because if the simple fact of when I get off of them what will happen. So when I went back for a follow up I ask my doc about them and he said it should be fine, I plan on going to see him this week and asking him again about them.

I had a thyrodectemy in April 2016. I was still having symptoms but not gaining weight. My Dr. decided to add cytomel, which I am excited about. So my Dr. lowered my synthroid to 125 mg 6x's a week and 5 mg of cytomel 4x's a week. I am also taking calcium twice a day at 600mg and 40,000 IU once a week with calcitrol twice a day as well.
