Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and weight loss mcg

cytomel

Avatar n tn What will it take to lose weight while having hypothyroidism and being on cytomel? I know the side effects of cytomel includes weight loss......but how much time do you have to be on cytomel for to start seeing those side effects? I can use any help on this. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn When I was first tested in late 2005 my doctor said it was hypothyrodism. She put me on 25 mcg of cytomel and 3months later had blood work and it was still low. She then put me on the 50 of cytomel. I want to say that back then my TSH was testing normal by my FreeT4 was low. Since I've been on the 50mcg i have been tested yearly. I went to my doctor because i was just feeling horrible constantly.
Avatar f tn The effect of Cytomel takes a couple of weeks to set in. Cytomel can be given upto 100 mcg/day. So if you are on10 mcg/d and unable to lose weight it makes sense to increase to 25 mcg/d. Simultaneously Synthroid dose may need to be reduced slightly. Regarding any other laboratory tests besides thyroid profile at this point in time, I feel nothing else is necessary.
Avatar f tn Even though health wise I felt better most of the time had issues with weight gain and most disturbing hair loss. I have almost gone bald and have been trying to adjust meds just to stop hair loss. 6 months back shifted to brand synthroid 62.5 mcg. Felt fine but hair loss didn't stop. Recently read a lot about cytomegalovirus so asked my endo about it. I am prescribed cytomegalovirus 5mcg + 50 mcg synthroid.
Avatar m tn When you were on 100 mcg Cytomel for weight loss, did it make you feel hyper at all? Did you lose weight while on it?
894666 tn?1274097896 I recently (1 month ago) started taking Cytomel 5 mcg twice a day in addition to generic synthroid of 50 mcg which I have been on for a year. For the past 2 weeks I have had an issue with anger and now terrible breakout on my face with I have never had before. Has anyone ever had a similar problem. If it is the cytomel, I think I need to stop taking it. I was hoping it would help with weight loss, which is has not.
Avatar f tn I had my bi-annual thyroid checkup and my doctor said I was on too much meds due to my weight loss and reduced me to a half Cytomel and 100 mcg Synthoid. Got tested again after 6 weeks and was told I was slightly high but could stay at that level. However I was feeling awful on that (really tired) so I talked to my doctor and agreed to going back to 25mcg Cytomel/75 mcg Synthroid.
Avatar m tn this stopped the depression and panic attacks within 3 days, when no anti-depressant (including Wellbutrin) helped at all. I now take 100 mcg. levo and 50 mcg. Cytomel, and just raised the Cytomel by 12 and 1/2 mcg without experiencing the symptoms you describe.. The dosage is highly individual and depends on where your levels are in the FREE ranges. Because my TSH was "normal" (but NOT for me, now it's below .
Avatar n tn my endo lowered me to 50 mcg levo, and added 10 mcg cytomel. I was later dropped to 5 mcg cytomel and my levo was upped to 75 mcg. I am currently alternating 75 mcg with 88 mcg levo and still on the 5 mcg cytomel. I've read that synthroid/levo should be lowered by about 25 mcg for each 5 mcg cytomel added. So your synthroid was not lowered nearly enough to add 25 mcg cytomel. Are you taking the whole 25 mcg cytomel at one time or splitting it throughout the day?
Avatar f tn re taking 20 mcg (two 10 mcg) in the morning and only 5 mcg at night? Why do take Cytomel at night? Because T3 is fast acting, it's typically split between a morning and noon/early afternoon dose, but avoided at night so it doesn't disturb sleep. Please clarify your med schedule and dosage, if you don't mind. Why were you dropped all the way from 75 mcg Synthroid to 25 mcg?
Avatar f tn I take 30mg Armour and 5 mcg Cytomel in the morning at 6:30am  and 30mg Armour and 5 McG Cytomel again at 3pm. I feel great, much better than when they had me on just 30mg Armour once a day.
Avatar f tn 2) rT3 23 (11 - 32) The rT3 ratio was slightly less than optimal, so we increased the Cytomel. At this point I was still having edema, not losing weight, and having foot spasms. My hair had stopped falling out, but I was still having a rash and Beau's lines on my fingernails, so the raise in Cytomel seemed like a worthwhile experiment. October labs 112 mcg levothyroxine 50 mcg Cytomel FREE T4 .9 (.8 - 1.
1882966 tn?1320745459 He told me to take Cytomel and it would help me with loosing weight but i am not loosing weight. i only loose weight if i don't eat. So i dont know what to do. My doctor thinks my results are normal, but how are they normal if they are not normal. Based on my results, i think i should be 100lbs by now because i am not in hyper states..correct? I am confused...
Avatar f tn potato, carrots, anything that grows below the ground I will have instant weight on in one day (and its not water weight) and takes a week of severe dieting to lose it. Any help would be greatly be appreciated.
6555161 tn?1382381862 Ferritin: 33 (lab range 15-150) Free T3: 2.0 (lab value 2.0-4.4) So, yeah. WAY low in both. I've been doing good taking my iron at night, but was wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for iron? I'm just taking 325 mg of Ferrous Sulfate (says 65mg underneath that) but not sure if i need a larger dose or if this is a good starting dose to build it up and see what it's like down the road some. Just asking if anyone has a favorite iron?
Avatar n tn t exercise, my weight is 135. i exercise and my weight goes up to almost 140. i think the exercise must make you retain water or something. i don't know. it's trustrating, and it sounds like you're similar to me in that regard. definitely post your FT4 and FT3 with reference ranges. maybe your FT4 is a little low and FT3 is a little high or vice versa. tsh is only one piece of the puzzle. the other values are needed to see the whole picture.
Avatar f tn After 4 years on Armor thyroid, my MD switched me to synthroid 25 mcg and cytomel 5 mcg 1 bid (tid prn). I am a 50 y.o females who is s/p total hysterectomy for ovarian ca. I take Estratest FS 4 X's week. I am feeling MUCH better with the Synthroid and Cytomel, however, my latest labs have come back as follows: TSH- .062 Free Thyroxin-- 1.
Avatar f tn NDT and Cytomel will work for some people. T4 meds work for some people. T4 and Cytomel will work for some. NDT only works for some. The bottom line is that it is not the type of med that matters most. The important thing is getting your biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4 up to a level that relieve symptoms. That can be accomplished with adequate doses of T4 meds, if your body adequately converts T4 to T3.
Avatar n tn I also take 88 mcg of levothyroxin (levothyroxine) and 1/2 of 25 mcg of liothyronine. My hair is falling out, dry and lifeless. My blood test results are tsh-.006 free t4- .96 and free t3 1.9. I am on the low end of the range and feel much better when I am at the high end but because the tsh is so low, my dr. keeps reducing my cytomel. I used to alternate 50 and 25 mcg. I have gained 10 lbs despite going to a gym 4 days a week and barely eating. Constipation came back as well.
Avatar m tn So, I am not sure how much of taking levo is responsible for my weight loss and how much is added exercise. I heard rumors that levo helps one loose weight but I really haven't heard people on this fourm talking much about loosing weight as part of their total healing process. I hope this answers your question. Maybe others here can help.
Avatar n tn I was so excited to finally find a doctor to listen, and considerfr adding the T-3 to my Synthroid. The 5 mcg 2 x daily generic Cytomel he added, to my reduced from 100 mcg to 88 mcg of Synthroid, was way to much, with heart palpatations and breathing distress. So we cut it to 2.5 twice daily, mostly only once a day. I found increased anxiety, insomnia and irritability somewhat tolerable, although uncomfortable and was striving to deal with this.
Avatar m tn The change from alternating 90mg/120mg of Armour to 125 mcg Tirosint and 25 mcg Cytomel actually represents a considerable increase in both T4 and T3. The Armour you've been taking contains roughly 65 mcg of T4 and 16 mcg of T3 per day. The conversion chart assumes, as you thought, that you're replacing the Armour with Tirosint alone. If you're adding in T3 at the same time, the chart doesn't work. Do you have your lab results to post?
Avatar f tn I had been taking cytomel 5mcg and synthroid 112 mcg a day and was not feeling well. My dr. Then increased my cytomel to 7.5 mcg once a day. I am still not feeling well. I have more energy but i continue to experience hunger, weight loss and hair loss. My recent blood tests are as follows T4 9.4 range of 4.5-12.0 T3. 85 range 71-180 Tsh 0.450 range of 0.450-4.500 Free t4. 1.33 range 0.82-1.77 Ferritin serum 56 range 15-150 Iron bind 243.
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar n tn I was experiencing joint pain, substantial hair loss, sensitive to cold and have not been able to loose much weight. I joined weight watchers over nine months ago and my coach told me something was not right. This week I was able to see a endocrinologist and he repeated my labs. Now my TSH is 1.9, he decided to change my synthroid to 100 much and added Cytomel 5mcg twice a day. I’m not familiar with Cytomel, will the addition of this medicine compensate reducing my synthroid?
