Cytomel and synthroid treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and synthroid treatment

cytomel

1070570 tn?1283436213 I think you should talk to your doctor about decreasing the Cytomel and increasing the Synthroid. That will get your FT3 and FT4 back in balance. When your doctor took away part of your Cytomel and replaced it with Synthroid, he didn't prescribe nearly enough Synthroid to compensate for the decrease in Cytomel. Overall, your medication level has dropped significantly. What are your current symptoms?
Avatar f tn I used to be on .2mg Synthroid and Cytomel, forget the dose until I could not get it any longer. It is again available I see. I had shown my previous doctor, moved, a study showing its benefits with synthroid. can you comment on it and also tell me what that study was. thanks This discussion is related to Adding Cytomel.
1070570 tn?1283436213 For those taking synthroid AND cytomel, Please list the dosages you take of each and at what time throughout the day. Also please list any experiences -good or bad- you've had with this combination. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I had a tt on 8/1 for thyca and RAI on 9/30. I've been on 112 synthroid for 7 days and 75 cytomel (25/three times day) for 7 days. Yesterday I started getting really strange sensations in my legs. Its just an aching that won't stop. I think it is nerve related. It is in both legs and moves around. Seems like it might be restless leg-type symptoms. The longer I am still, the more the discomfort builds until I just have to move around. Any idea what might be causing this?
Avatar n tn My synthroid is 0.175 mg. I feel fatigued, emotional, hands and feet cold and despite exercise and following a dietician, i am gaining weight. My doctor says i have to stay at that range, until i am 5 years cancer-free. Has anyone had this, and what can i do to lose my weight?
Avatar f tn I think it's fairly common to add Synthroid to Armour. T3 seems to lower T4. I take both Synthroid and Cytomel. Before I started the Cytomel my T4 levels were at the top of the range. Now it's around mid-level. If you are having symptoms I don't think you necessarily need to lower your Armour dosage before adding Synthroid. Your doc is correct in mostly ignoring TSH at this point. T3 will drive TSH into the ground. Best to go by symptoms & frees.
Avatar n tn Dx Central Hypothroidism and Hashimoto Taking synthroid 125 Endo added cytomel 10mcg due to low ft3 and persistent hypo symptoms.Feeling terrible and even worse with added titre (cytomel) 10mcg. Rang Endo and told me to stop with cytomel. Is that possible that such a low dose could make me feel awful...double vison, sense of nausea, some palpitations...to add to my already hypo symptoms...plus ft3 and ft4 have not risen even a tiny bit. I'm really confused at this point.
1401696 tn?1280838616 I switched from Armour to Synthroid and Cytomel and am doing great on it. Adding the Cytomel to my Synthroid was the key to my treatment, as my Dr can control my Free T4 and Free T3 separately. Unfortunately my body doesn't like the dessicated thyroid meds. But I am doing great!
332168 tn?1201026915 I had a TT in Sept. and RAI in Nov. During the time between the TT and RAI, I took only Cytomel and did fine on it. Currently I take 137 of Levothyroxine and 25 mcg of Cytomel. I was taking a half tablet in the morning and once in the early afternoon, but I couldn't manage to remember to take the afternoon dose in a timely fashion, and sometimes was kept up at night.
Avatar n tn Well, I tried a new endo since I still live with all hypo symptoms and asked for Cytomel with Synthroid. He reluctantly agreed to give it a try. He has prescribed lowering my Synthroid to 100 and adding Cytomel 5 b.i.d. for a total dose of 10. I think that seems a little high? My labs are: TSH 1.68. FT4 1.06. Total T4 9.7. Total T3 0.88. Total T3 uptake 37%. I do not know if Cytomel will help or not, but I am willing to try it versus living with the symptoms forever and ever....
Avatar m tn During the first four days of taking the 5 mcg of Cytomel I felt a lot better. However, at the time I had also been on the 50 mg of Synthroid and I know it takes a while to build up. Any thoughts? I am still very lethargic and sometimes depressed, especially in the morning. Every night I have a bad dream. I am unable to exercise. Do you think I will feel better if my levels are in the upper two thirds of the range (free t3/t4)?
Avatar n tn Roughly - and this is just roughly - 90mgs conversion would be about a .112 Synthroid with a .5 Cytomel. Keep in mind that switching over - especially at the beginning could put you at a higher T4 level but should deplete and convert as time goes by IF you are NOT having any problems. Are you switching because of your weight? Looking at your TSH (2.73) - most patients on either Synthroid or Armour would not be well - and gaining weight will be an issue regardless.
Avatar f tn Usually we do not change from Synthroid to Cytomel alone. Typically if we are using Cytomel, it is in conjunction with Synthroid, for example if you're on 137 of Synthroid a dose change could have been Synthroid 100 along with Cytomel 5 twice daily.
Avatar n tn I am going to try and get my insurance to cover the Tirosint, and try again, with the Cytomel. I did some reading on Erfa, how its more consistant then Armour, which I also have a script for. I will run that by the Endo, as well. In the meantime, I will try the Tirosint/Cytomel combo first, and let you guys know how I fare with it all. I am still quite puffy, exhuasted and barely able to get out of my own way on just the Synthroid.
793305 tn?1493925518 I have been on 200 mcg of synthroid for two weeks now...and 10 days of cytomel at 25mcg, taking 1/2 twice a day....this is day one off and I'm feeling pretty good...Didn't get as tired on my way to work...which has been a huge concern for me....have been in a good mood today and I didn't fall asleep while watching a fairly boring tv show... Endo uses cytomel to make drug transitions easier....so she says...she does not test for free t3, she just expects that I will convert...
Avatar f tn If the pathology report indicates that you need further treatment, that treatment will require your TSH to be high and your FT3 and FT4 levels to be low. T3 is both very fast-acting and purged from your system quickly. T4 meds build over time and take several weeks to be purged. So, your doctors are trying to keep you comfortable on T3 until they determine the necessity of further treatment.
Avatar f tn 5), although I have to change my meds often as my levels go up and down whenever they want. Take 150 mcg Synthroid and 5 mg Cytomel 2 times daily currently. Just had my first ultrasound of my thyroid due to swallowing problems. It is enlarged and also the part that crosses my windpipe is about 3 times larger than normal, possibly causing the harder time swallowing. Dr also mentioned that it looks "woody".
499534 tn?1328704178 I was on 120 mgs of Armour and switched over to 5mcg Cytomel with 88mcg Synthroid. Within 6 weeks I did labs again, and then was increased to 100mcg synthroid and 10 mcg Cytomel. I felt great for a couple of months at this dosage. Recently though I felt myself slipping.....the thyroid swelled and I knew it was the Hashimoto's attacking the thyroid again and knew it would be time for another increase. Labs proved correct.
Avatar f tn I have a slightly underperforming thyroid and was put on synthroid which made me nauseous, even when the dosage was lowered. So I have now been put on 25mcg of cytomel and am having real trouble falling asleep. My doctor told me to half the dosage but I still cannot sleep and am now taking sleeping pills as well. I usually take the cytomel in the morning and I read somewhere that it can help to take it at night, which doesn't make sense to me.
Avatar n tn I take Synthroid .1 and 5mcg Cytomel every day for hypothyroidism. I have been taking them together in the morning an hour before any other medications, foods and 6 hours before any iron, calcium, or zinc. Should the Synthroid be taken by itself completely? I can take the Cytomel with breakfast and other meds later in the day, but wondered if taking the Cytomel at the exact same time as the Synthroid was somehow lowering the effectiveness/absorbtion of the Synthroid.
Avatar n tn My primary care Dr. then put me on 150 mcg of Synthroid and 15 mcg of cytomel per day. I ended up with WAY too much thyroid hormone in my system after 2 to 3 weeks (TSH 0.04). It was awful - rushing heart beat, couldn't concentrate or think, highly fatigued, hot all the time. As a result, once I figured it out it was the medication, I totally went off thyroid for 3 weeks to clean out my system.
Avatar f tn For 18 months I took Naturethroid but could not get my TSH suppressed enough without severe hyper symptoms(Total Thyroidectomy for thyroid cancer) so Endo switched me to Synthroid and Cytomel. I started on synthroid 150mcg daily and cytomel 5mg twice daily, then 112 mcg of synthroid and same cytomel, now 125mcg synthroid with same cytomel. My anxiety has been terrible, esp. since switching to synthroid.
Avatar n tn I had a few issues sleeping, being on Cytomel, and felt I should try and convert my own T4 to T3. So I started Synthroid exclusively. I took it and initially felt a little better, at least the sleeping and such. But after about 3 weeks, I started with severe bloating and arthritis in my hands and hip joints. I'd never before had hip joint pain...EVER before Synthroid.
Avatar n tn This week I was able to see a endocrinologist and he repeated my labs. Now my TSH is 1.9, he decided to change my synthroid to 100 much and added Cytomel 5mcg twice a day. I’m not familiar with Cytomel, will the addition of this medicine compensate reducing my synthroid? Will it help with my Simptoms? Thank you!
Avatar f tn I am 28 yo female, I had my thyroid removed 10 years ago due to non cancerous nodules growing on it. I've been on synthroid since I was 11 yo. Everything was fine until I went off birth control pills. All of a sudden I had a hard time tolerating my 137 mcg dose of synthroid. I switched to armour thyroid, but couldn't tolerate any more than 60 mg. I felt great on just 60 mg, however my TSH shot up from 1 to almost 8.
Avatar f tn 1MG of Synthroid and 5MCG of Cytomel split in have with 2.5 MCG in AM and 2.5 MCG in PM. I list labs from newest to oldest. 2/22/14 TSH - .932 (range .300-5.00) FT4 - 1.03 (range .58-1.64) FT3 - 3.22 (range 2.20-4.10) 11/8/13 (after these results I was put on the .1MG of Synthroid and 5MCG of Cytomel TSH - 2.797 (range .300-5.00) FT4 - 1.01 (range .58-1.64) FT3 - 3.37 (range 2.20-4.10) 8/16/13 (put on 75 MCG of Synthroid) TSH - 3.423 (range .300-5.
