Cytomel and side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and side effects

cytomel

Avatar f tn These vary from lab to lab and must come from your own report. Labs from both, before and after the cytomel, would be great. There is no "normal" amount to be added to a specific amount of levo; as stated above the dosage would be dependent on your FT3/FT4 labs. Most of us are started out on a very small dose and increased as needed. 25 mcg is not a small dose. Did you take the whole 25 mcg cytomel all at once each day?
Avatar f tn Too bad about the cancer. I'm a member of that club too. Not one people clamor for... It's not clear to me via what you just wrote if you are still taking the Cytomel or if you went off when you started the LID. So you must be hypo. Some people can take longer to go seriously hypo (if you have indeed stopped the Cytomel). And some just don't feel it as much as others. I felt seriously slow and lacked energy for anything, but still couldn't sleep. Go figure.
Avatar f tn I am now on the Synthroid with Cytomel and doing great. When I first had my TT last year, I tried the Synthroid without the Cytomel and sis terribly.. now that I added the T3.. its working good. I feel better now than I have in a very long time!! Even on the Armour! Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn I had a recent experience with Cytomel which lowered my TSH to 0.033, made me hyperthyroid and caused polyneuropathy (burning, pis/needles, aching pain) in my feet, legs and hands. My doc had lowered my levo by 20% back in Feb making me sick and hypothyroid. While trying to bring me out of my hypo state, he added 25mcg of Cytomel to my 0.137 levo. This rapidly caused neuropathy which we could not figure out at the time. I was sent to an endocrinologist and she had me stop Cytomel.
Avatar f tn So when you go in for your annual check-up, you should request testing for thyroid function. Specifically ask for free T3, free T4 and TSH. Note that free T3 and free T4 are not the same as total T3 and total T4. the tests for totals are somewhat obsolete and not very useful compared to the Frees. If the doctor resists testing for FT3 and FT4, then you should insist on it and don't take no for an answer. Remember that you are the customer.
Avatar f tn I could not tolerate the added cytomel. Had every hyper symptom and lost 12 pounds in two weeks. I stopped cytomel, and after 3 days I have tried to resume the 137 MCG of tirosint. I have been on this increased dose for 8 days. I am experiencing exhaustion, muscle aches, racing heart and anxiety with major crying spells. Should I just try to ride this out? I was no where near hyper in labs on this dose before. Is this just my body adjusting?
Avatar n tn And Is it possible to just add Cytomel in while taking the Armour. I am on 120mg now of Armour and have no side effects. I have taken as much as 240mg and still not side effects. Can you suggest what to do?
Avatar f tn Well, the initial surge of energy most experience with starting T3 is not necessarily a good thing. Its actually a medicine induced hyper state that wears off as the body adjusts and hopefully turns into an alert but calmness feeling. If the cytomel does not give you any negative side effects, maybe that's a sign that good side effects are on the way. Changing to natural, no matter what the brand takes a while to get used to, that period is not initially comfortable either.
Avatar f tn I would say that any hypo type symptoms you have are not side effects of the dose increase, but are due to inadequate level of Free T3, compounded by excessive Reverse T3. Many of us have found that we needed Free T4 to be at least mid-range, and Free T3 to be in the upper part of its range, and adjusted from there as needed to relieve symptoms.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was taking the phendimetrizine before with my syn, was working pretty well, with no heart rhythm problems, but I have just gotten cytomel added to my agenda on Friday and have not taken the phen since, because I was not sure, but in reference to the cytomel, does this have to be taken on empty stomach and does calcium affect, kinda like the syn--and can the syn and cytomel be taken at the same time, or should I take one in the am and one in the pm?? I am on 5mcg of cytomel and 0.
332168 tn?1201026915 I had a TT in Sept. and RAI in Nov. During the time between the TT and RAI, I took only Cytomel and did fine on it. Currently I take 137 of Levothyroxine and 25 mcg of Cytomel. I was taking a half tablet in the morning and once in the early afternoon, but I couldn't manage to remember to take the afternoon dose in a timely fashion, and sometimes was kept up at night.
988694 tn?1332359479 It has been more than two years dealing with thyroid medicine and I have not seen significant changes. I feel I am getting worse. if Cytomel does in fact give me side effects (allergies) I think there is nothing my doctor can do. He has been great. However my body is not cooperating. Thanks for the good wishes though.
Avatar f tn 75, and I probably need to have mine bumped again a few times, and maybe some T3 Cytomel added, my thyroid has not been told my my pituitary to go to sleep. Therefore, my thryoid is still awake, and the Hashi antibodies still attack it. With Hashimoto's, as we go through those swings to hyper mode - Mine only lasts a few days now instead of weeks, once we are in hyper mode, .
Avatar f tn ll get past these side-effects I will keep taking the Cytomel. Do people commonly have these types of side effects at first? Do they usually subside?
793305 tn?1493925518 He sent me to en endo DR who put me on Armour Thyroid. Loved Armour had no side effects to it and I felt 95% better 3 days after starting it. A few months ago I started running and gained 12 lbs. in a few weeks, plus my current script for Armour ran out. I saw my endo again and he told me they are no longer making Armour Thyroid and that I needed to switch to Synthroid and he also placed me on Cytomel.
6555161 tn?1382381862 T4 is 4 iodine molecules around a ring of tyrosine. Selenium dependent enzymes called deiodinases converts T4 to T3 by removing an iodine atom from the outer tyrosine ring. Selenium is not just pretty good at converting T4 to T3. It's essential! :) Supplement wise, look for selenomethionine (sometimes called chelated selenium). Dietary wise, the highest source is brazil nuts with between 50 to 90mcg per nut.
Avatar n tn Perhaps I got it wrong. But my daughter's on the cytomel and the question remains the same.
Avatar f tn I am using 1/2 synthroid and the cytomel and my skin and hair seem better again. Thankyou for your answer.
327369 tn?1326119908 Just for info, I noticed something in the medical info that came with the Cytomel. It stated that Cytomel has no known side effects. How many meds do you know that can say that?
