Cytomel and hypothyroidism

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and hypothyroidism

cytomel

Avatar n tn Dx Central Hypothroidism and Hashimoto Taking synthroid 125 Endo added cytomel 10mcg due to low ft3 and persistent hypo symptoms.Feeling terrible and even worse with added titre (cytomel) 10mcg. Rang Endo and told me to stop with cytomel. Is that possible that such a low dose could make me feel awful...double vison, sense of nausea, some palpitations...to add to my already hypo symptoms...plus ft3 and ft4 have not risen even a tiny bit. I'm really confused at this point.
Avatar n tn Perhaps I got it wrong. But my daughter's on the cytomel and the question remains the same.
1004097 tn?1251117610 I take Benazepril for my blood pressure and am on a combination of levothyroxin (T4 med) and cytomel (T3 med) for the hypothyroidism. I take my levo first thing in the morning (which for me is 3:30 am), then I take the cytomel about 7:00 am to help me get through the day. I take my blood pressure med at the same time I take my cytomel, but benazepril is not a beta blocker, it's an ACE inhibitor. T4 and T3 meds are NOT the same thing.
Avatar f tn After 4 years on Armor thyroid, my MD switched me to synthroid 25 mcg and cytomel 5 mcg 1 bid (tid prn). I am a 50 y.o females who is s/p total hysterectomy for ovarian ca. I take Estratest FS 4 X's week. I am feeling MUCH better with the Synthroid and Cytomel, however, my latest labs have come back as follows: TSH- .062 Free Thyroxin-- 1.
Avatar f tn t and need help from Cytomel. If you felt better on Cytomel, tell your doctor and bypass the PA altogether. She apparently doesn't know what she's talking about!
168348 tn?1379357075 I am 48 years old. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 18 months old so I have been dealing with Thyroid issues as long as I can remember. I currently take a combo of Levoxyl and Cytomel. Until recently, my levels had been pretty stable, but since I went into menopause last year, I've been experiencing low TSH. This is not unexpected since my doctor had warned me that my bodies need for thyroid hormone would decline after menopause.
Avatar n tn I had a colonoscopy which was fine and several other tests which were all good, but my TSH levels are up and down every 6 weeks. I started Cytomel yesterday, and it sounds silly but I am really hopeful and excited that it will help. Should I request an ultrasound? Thanks so much for help and suggestions!
Avatar m tn I take 125 mcg of Synthroid and 5mcg of Cytomel (2X/day). I have a physical every year for work and my lymphocytes have been gradually increasing for the last 3 years; they are above normal but the docs don't seem overly concerned. My overall WBC was also high this year. I've had several different tests including ultrasound and CT and a cause hasn't been found yet, although something in my gut is suspected. My thyroid is consistently off.
Avatar f tn Hello. I recently had a thyroidectomy and I just had to stop taking my cytomel about two weeks ago for an upcoming radioactive iodine treament on Monday. Im getting really hypothyroid, Its getting hard to stand, im sore and most of all im sooo tired but I cant sleep. Im tired, but my anxiety is shooting through the roof. Avatar f tn ok, my doc initialy said when all this thyroid startrd was she was trying to figure out my depression lack of energy so she checked my throid levels and they were just a little off and said i was hypothroid, that was almost two years ago and i started with 25 mg a day in the morning and then my throid level dropped, again i wasnt paying attention to the numbers on whtat test, i had no cause for concern, shes my doc, i figired shes the one with the degree so i just did what she said so, in any ca
Avatar n tn So your most recent labs before the dose change was Free T4 at 1.57, which is 79% of its range, while Free T3 of 3.0 was at 43% of its range. This is kind of typical for a hypothyroid patient taking T4 med. The Free T3 lags Free T4 because of inadequate conversion of T4 to T3. The correct definition for hypothyroidism is "insufficient T3 effect in tissue throughout the body, due to inadequate supply of, or response to, thyroid hormone".
Avatar f tn Hello- I'm 33/female and I've had hypothyroidism since age 26. I'm taking Synthroid and Cytomel and my endo checks my levels every 6 months. I'm usually midly elevated and my dr tried a couple times to lower my dosage but it always resulted in me feeling awful and him reverting to my original dose. The reason why I'm writing here is because I've been feeling extremely depressed lately.
Avatar n tn What will it take to lose weight while having hypothyroidism and being on cytomel? I know the side effects of cytomel includes weight loss......but how much time do you have to be on cytomel for to start seeing those side effects? I can use any help on this. Thanks in advance.
822804 tn?1298226302 I convinced my dr to add cytomel w/Synthroid 88mcg. He ordered 25mcg of Cytomel and I knew it was too much at once so I cut it in half and had only 12.5mcg in am & 12.5mcg at 2pm. I had been on the 88mcg for a long time and I just wanted to see if I increased by 44mcg (cutting an 88mcg in half) and adding it to the 88mcg (total of 132mcg) and I can't even believe how much better I feel. It took a long time for me to add the second dose of cytomel though.
Avatar f tn Please post the reference ranges for the above lab values. Ranges vary from lab to lab and have to come from your own report for the best comparison. Are those labs from before you began the cytomel or since you've been taking it? I have no idea why your doctor would say you "don't need" T4, since that's the first medication prescribed when one has hypothyroidism. It's very rare to be prescribed cytomel by itself and then only under very special conditions.
Avatar n tn Read up on meds , condition etc but have absolutely no improvement infact feel awful with cytomel combo and will probably have to stop. Wrote to endo who told me to stop cytomel now believes that blood levels will 'have to do' because she can't understand why? She's about the tenth doc that seems to have no idea why these levels don't rise and dosent seem to be to interested either unfortunately...grr...gh. There must be some reason musnt there?
Avatar f tn If you took the cytomel 2 hours prior to the blood draw, your FT3 would be a false high... Cytomel enters the blood stream very quickly and increases FT3 level, but it peaks within 2-4 hrs and is gone a few hours later. That's why it's recommended that the total daily dosage be split into 2 doses to keep FT3 levels more stable over the course of the day. So in answer to your question, yes, it could easily have made that big a difference in your results.
Avatar m tn ve been struggling with gastrointestinal issues (celiac disease) for the past 8 months and these are my thyroid test results - I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and have been put on some medications, but what I'm worried about whether I actually need them or not….
291885 tn?1404893207 t come on until I started lowering my armour and adding the cytomel. Apparently some patients experience air hunger from cytomel so I must be one of those lucky folks. I think that the cardiologist really thought I was just having panic attacks and that by giving me a really low dose of a beta blocker it would act as a placebo effect and help my breathing in that way. He looked at my EKG, and Echo and said I was fine.
Avatar f tn This was followed by RAI even though the nodule was small (12mm) and had not spread to the lymph nodes. After RAI, I was put on 125mcg L-thyroxine and up to 75mcg cytomel a day. As I tapered off the cytomel, my hypothyroidism symptoms began to return. Blood work was done (TSH 0.03) and my doctor's PA reduced by L-thyroxine to 116mcg per day and by then I was totally off cytomel anyway. Now, two months later, I have had more blood work done. Here are the results: TSH 0.
Avatar m tn Does hypothyroidism cause a lack of digestion and in tern a lack of absorption of nutrients? I have an iron issue at the moment but have not started treatment with Synthoid or anything like that. I am unsure whether my iron problem will improve if my digestion is not at its full potential. Any advice?
Avatar f tn I did take cytomel with ERFA but i seemed I was getting too hot on the combo before I could feel any effect of the cytomel. So out came the ERFA to try to increase the cytomel due to my low T3. But its not working either. I'm still dizzy from increasing the dose and I think I will have to go back down in order for this to go away.
Avatar f tn I am a 31 years old and was diagnoses with hypothyroidism a few years ago. I have been taking Cytomel (50 mg) since diagnosis with some relief of symptoms but they have recently returned. My doctor decided to test again. My TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) level is < 0.015 Range: 0.465-4.680 - mIU/mL and my Free T4 (Free Thyroxine) is 0.32 Range: 0.78-2.19 - ng/dL. What are the chances that I have hypopituitarism. What else could it be?
Avatar n tn If not, why are you on T3-only med (Cytomel)? What were your labs a week ago before going on the Cytomel, and were you on any other meds then?
