Cytomel and hypothyroid

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and hypothyroid

cytomel

Avatar f tn My t3 and t4 levels were good and tsh was .04. My docter lowered synthyroid to 125 mcg and added 12.5 cytomel 2 times a day. I am wondering if that is too much cytomel? My docter said as long as the other level were fine and I felt ok . But I seemed hungery and my hair was thinning.
Avatar f tn Im hypothyroid, last test has showed I have high RT3 so I switched from 130mcg synthroid and 1 grain armour TO 15 mcg Cytomel and 1 grain armour. I also did cortisol saliva test which shows im LOW in cortisol cortisol morning. 2.6 ng/ml. normal range. 3.7-9.5 >cortisol noon 2. ng/ml. normal range. 1.2-3.0 >cortisol evening. 1.1. normal range. 0.6-1.9 >cortisol night. 0.2. normal range. 0.4-1 the problem is I keep gaining weight, i have headaches, tired, feel like I have cold.
Avatar n tn In Feb 2009 I was diagnosed by Dr. hypothyroid started cytomel after 2 months rechecked labs added synthroid. TSH was <0.1. 2 months later still no change--no med change. Went to Endocronologist and she ordered numerous labs. Thinks may be pituitary tumor. Symptoms are weight gain without being able to loose any, night sweats--recent hysterectomy, cold intolerance only during daytime. Occasional hair loss --not bad.
Avatar n tn 30am and 30mg Armour and 5 McG Cytomel again at 3pm. I feel great, much better than when they had me on just 30mg Armour once a day.
Avatar f tn i am 21 year old suffering form hypothyroidism i am too short and too weight for my height and i am putting weight very soon i need your help to cure this problem please help me out of this.
465389 tn?1209563974 5) then a trial of combination is worthwhile. I usually add cytomel 5mcg 2x/day and take away roughly 40mcg of the T4.
Avatar n tn I sent you a PM more specifically about RAI and thryogen, but yes. After my TT I was started on Cytomel only, in preparation for RAI. It's a weird drug but for the most part I did fine on it. It stays in your system for a matter of hours not days or weeks. And therefore it's the perfect drug pre-RAI.
Avatar n tn I was exposed to radiation and have had thryoid cancer (removed 1984), bladder and skin cancers. I was on 200 synthroid in am and 50 cytomel 2 x per day (i took only once a day as I couldnt sleep). Doc brought my thyroid meds to 25 synthroid only. My body aches, and have had sugar issues already. Is this in my head? I went to another doc to be sure and he said deal with it. a low dose isn't going to kill me but he referred to an endo. anyway.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have wondered that myself. I went to the doctor for PAC's and they did blood work and found out I was hypothyroid and I had no idea. I have been on the thyroid replacement pill for almost 2 years and I still get them from time to time and have other crazy symptoms. Sorry I wasn't much help...but, at least I moved you back up the top.
Avatar f tn Goolara is right. Both Frees are pretty low. You are on the low side for both. Optimally, the FT4 should be mid range- some higher and the FT3 should be near the highest point to relieve you of all symptoms. The problem is when the FT3 is raised the TSH drops and most doctors will not allow an abnormal low TSH , even though taking a direct T3 will drop that number. With the shortage of desiccated - it may be even tougher to suggest this to a doctor.
Avatar f tn You can get direct T3 either synthetically (Cytomel and generics) or from desiccated porcine thyroid (Armour, NT, ERFA, etc.), which is a combination T4/T3 med. Let me assume for a minute that you'll decide to go with synthetic since it's easier to explain. Your FT3 isn't terrible, so I'd err on the side of caution and start out low and increase if needed (always a good idea). You might ask your doctor about trying 5 mcg. Most people split their T3 and take it in two doses...
Avatar f tn Good questions. It makes sense that if I weren't taking meds I would go back to being hypo. My most recent symptoms (why I moved my endo appt up a couple of weeks prior to my regularly scheduled follow up) were fatigue, disorientation, nauseau, panic attacks, feeling like I could't get enough air or feeling a bit faint, a bit jittery. Noticed slight shaking when I write.
Avatar f tn I had the TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 plus Anti Thyroglobulin level and Anti Thyroid Peroixidase tests done - my T3 is low and hope to introduce Cytomel soon but since I now live in Asia am trying to get hold of Cytomel T3. I also do Qigong and jumping exercises early in the morning that has helped to lesson the swelling as it is a way to activate the lymphatic system. I also drink 6 glasses of water per day - when I have more my legs swell and when I have less the same happens.
Avatar m tn i recently developed bad anxiety, my hair loss is still persistent (it never stopped), i have trouble sleeping and im depressed all the time with constant headaches. has anyone who taken cytomel gotten any relief? i read somewhere people said that they took it and they felt great. ii never going back to synthroid becuase all it did was make me underweight and angry. im always tired and i cant move around much even tho im thin like a twig.
Avatar f tn i take 200mcg of synthroid and i am still having hypothyroid symptom. fatigue, sleep 8+ hours and want to sleep more, weight gain, forgetfulness. this is causing my depression to get worse. i was sent to an endocrinologist, she lowered my dosage to 175. i tried to explain the returning symptoms. she stated she was going by my blood work only. my blood work shows hyperthyroid. she started giving me the spill about brittle bones, heart problems.
903476 tn?1242237037 This is my 5th endocrinologist and he was the first one to say there was something wrong and my meds needed to be changes again to the Cytomel what I would like to know is why and whats with the enzyme that i dont have the makes me not able to handle synthroid?
Avatar n tn This week I was able to see a endocrinologist and he repeated my labs. Now my TSH is 1.9, he decided to change my synthroid to 100 much and added Cytomel 5mcg twice a day. I’m not familiar with Cytomel, will the addition of this medicine compensate reducing my synthroid? Will it help with my Simptoms? Thank you!
Avatar f tn I am using 1/2 synthroid and the cytomel and my skin and hair seem better again. Thankyou for your answer.
Avatar n tn depression, lots of anxiety, indigestion/bloating, fatigue, strange sensations in my hands and feet, so I went to the family dr. and asked her to check my levels. Sure enough, my tsh was high again, this time 7.4. She increased me to 50 mcg of synthroid, but I still was not feeling relief...if anything, my moodiness and anxiety is worse now! I finally got in with an endo yesterday.
Avatar f tn Then take cytomel three times a day. the synthroid is 75mcg and the cytomel is 5mcg 3 times a day which equals 15 mcg a day. My labs read TSH =1.33, T4,free =0.8 and T3,free =2.5 He said my numbers are at the low end. He changed me from Naturethroid to this. How do I combine these properly? I find it hard to take the 3 pills a day because of my work schedule. I read not to take cytomel at night because it interferes with sleep. Is this correct? Thanks for the help.
Avatar n tn 30am  and 30mg Armour and 5 McG Cytomel again at 3pm. I feel great, much better than when they had me on just 30mg Armour once a day.
Avatar n tn Hello everyone I have already been taking cytomel for a few years because I had hypothyroid symptoms with a consitently low basal body temp, even though my tsh was "normal".The cytomel has been great except I had to taper down a little because I was sweating excessively on it. I just had a more complete blood test and my thyroglobulin antibodies were high while the other antibodies were normal. Otherwise everything was normal except my free t4 was at the very bottom of the range.
Avatar n tn My doctor added Cytomel and I felt so much better. That was 5 years ago and I still feel great! I have no symptoms of being hyperthyroid. My blood pressure is normal/low, heart rate fine, etc. I also had an ultra sound on my thyroid and it came back normal. However, my doctor retired and she had been my dr. and trusted friend for 23 years. Trying to find new doc.
