214901 tn?1227567555 Just curious how many people out there that have suffered moderate-severe hairloss from hypothyroid have had a substantial hair regrowth. I lost over 1/4 of my hair and I am worried it will not grow back. I have heard synthroid can actually make you lose more!
Avatar n tn I think thyroid issues can affect hair and nail growth. Now that I am kept slightly hyper due to TT and pap cancer, my hair and nails grow faster than ever. I also remember having a bit of hair thinning several weeks after my thyroidectomy while we were getting my T4 levels regulated. If you search it on the web, there are about a gazillion symptoms related to thyroid issues tho, so hair loss or slow growth alone wouldn't necessarily mean a thyroid issue.
Avatar f tn After being placed on Synthroid, my hair got significantly thinner, finer. I STILL am losing hair!!! Also, why did I lose hair AFTER being place medication? Isn't the med suppose to "correct " the problem??
Avatar f tn My head hair loss has continued and expanded to legs, arms eyebrows and eyelashes- with increased facial hair. I have new hair growth on my head but the overall hair count continues to decrease as the new growth cannot keep up with the loss. Scalp is visible over my entire head. I also experience occasional heart palpitations, although not as significant as pre-thyroidectomy when my T3 and T4 were in the 60's and 70's range and experiencing thyroid storms (oh boy!).
Avatar f tn I have been on it for just under 6 months and prior to that was off all meds for right around six weeks. I have been losing the hair at my temples for the past two months and new hair growth is brittle and poorly rooted. I have been doing A LOT of reading on Synthroid and it's possible link to hair loss. Can anyone share further information with me regarding this? Has anyone experienced a decrease in hair loss on a T/3 T/4? I did not experience this before I switched over. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I am on t3 and t4 (Cytomel and Lyvoxl) and losing hair. Washing my hair (normally long and thick) yesterday, a nest the size of a golf ball came out. My scalp itches terribly and I am literally tearing my hair out. Most of the itching is at the crown, more on the right side than the left, and I'm getting a bald spot there. But all of the crown area has definitely thinned. I am on bio-idential HRT program which has been working well for two years.
Avatar f tn severe fatigue, difficulty losing weight, weight gain, memory loss, hair loss, muscle fatigue, hair growth, buffalo hump, and increased anxiety and depression. Doctor changed my thyroid medication from cytomel to synthroid. I have a 25 year history of psoriasis and recently diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis due to joint swelling in a left finger and left ankle. Endocrinologist did these test and here are the results. Any assistance in translating them would be greatly appreciated.
793305 tn?1493925518 I currently take 5 mcg of Cytomel and .88 mg of Levoxyl. After doing research I sought out a Dr. in my community that prescribed Cytomel. That little bit does make a difference for me. I have never felt like I did before Hashimoto's in many respects, but I personally feel that Cytomel helped my energy level much more than the traditional sole replacement therapy!
Avatar n tn I was fine for 3 yers and just recently started loosing hair again. My ferritin is at 30(little low) so I started taking Iron again and it seamed the hair loss slowed down a little since. In a mid time my GP run a bunch of tests which showed very high ANA's 1:640 and referred me to Rheumatologist for further eval.( All other test like Liver Functions, Urea, Rheumatoid factors, blood counts, white ,red cells and platelets are normal) I have to wait till March to see him.
Avatar f tn Prior to my current dose of 112 mcg of cytomel I was taking a combination of cytomel and synthroid, and my mood was unpredictable and my skin was very dry. My new endo discontinued the cytomel and started me on 112 mcg of synthroid. for the past six months my skin is no longer dry and my moods have stabilized. However two weeks ago my hair started falling at an alarming rate. These are my lab results after taking 112 mcg of synthroid for 3 months. Thyroxine. 9.3 Range of 4.5 - 12.
Avatar f tn I am using 1/2 synthroid and the cytomel and my skin and hair seem better again. Thankyou for your answer.
Avatar f tn I stopped the cytomel in February and added snythroid(which I was on for 16 yrs) and my hair started to grow, but I got reverse t3 again and the doctor put me back on cytomel lower dose of only 25mg, prior to that I was on 81.75 for almost the two years. Once I was on cytomel again my hair statred to break off again. Now I am taking naturethroid but my hair is not growing and still breaking off I don't have much hair left it's so short I have to get a wig.
299155 tn?1235489269 thanks for reading and replying...How can you get your ferritin to increase?????
Avatar m tn I have Hashimoto's and am TTC. I take Synthroid and am thinking of adding Cytomel. Is it best to stop TTC when first starting this medicine to see how my body reacts? My doctor would prescribe 5 mcg of Cytomel daily. Here are my latest labs, which were taken a few months ago: TSH .94 Free T4 1.6 (.8-1.7) Free T3 2.8 (2.6-4.
Avatar f tn When I was first tested in late 2005 my doctor said it was hypothyrodism. She put me on 25 mcg of cytomel and 3months later had blood work and it was still low. She then put me on the 50 of cytomel. I want to say that back then my TSH was testing normal by my FreeT4 was low. Since I've been on the 50mcg i have been tested yearly. I went to my doctor because i was just feeling horrible constantly.
Avatar f tn The weight all came back, I am even heavier now even with dieting and exercise, and my hair is getting very, very thin where I can actually see bald spots. My sleeping is terrible, I'm snoring again, and very, very depressed. I just this week decided to start taking the ctyomel, and I'm losing the weight again and feeling better, along with sleeping soundly. So, I'm going to stay with it since I feel so much better. My questions is this: which endo dr.
988694 tn?1332359479 I have been feeling pretty bad, no changes, I though that by adding more Cytomel and bringing my FT3 up I would feel better, but that is not the case. . My hair continues to fall and my skin and mouth are very dry. I am also feeling depressed and anxious I will see my doc next week. I am not sure if I should stay in this dose, although I would like to increase Cytomel because of my symptoms, or I should decrease my NT and add more Cytomel.
Avatar f tn I agree with the advice give you by Barb. As I read through the thread, one other thing came to mind as a possible contributor to hair loss. Consider that many hypo patients find that they are too low in the range for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin. Among other things, ferritin is very important for healthy hair. The following quote provides some good info about that.
Avatar f tn Will adding cytomel to your levoxyl help with hair loss? This discussion is related to Cytomel in addition to Synthroid.
Avatar f tn My docter said as long as the other level were fine and I felt ok . But I seemed hungery and my hair was thinning.
Avatar f tn at my request added 5 mcg of cytomel. Although i still continue to suffer from hypo symptoms such as severe hair loss, joint pain, constipation and brain fog, my energy has increased since adding the cytomel. I have not been able to find an endo knowledgeable or willing enough to help. however, i did find a general practitioner who is willing to try various meds. However, she is not very knowleadgeable with hypothyroidism. My last test are as follows: T4 of 10.8 ug/dl and the lab range is 4.
Avatar f tn Are those T4 and T3 results you mention Free T4 and Free T3, or Total T4 and Total T3? What symptoms do you have other than hair loss?
