cytomel

1070570 tn?1283436213 have been told I have a conversion issue due to a high RT3 level in April (352)- don't convert T4 to T3 optimally, instead it converts to RT3 which cancels out the T3 that's trying to get into my cells. That's why I was wondering if increasing the synthroid was just gonna increase my RT3 and make me feel worse.
Avatar n tn i take cytomel in the morning with my synthroid--and also again the afternoon. does cytomel have to be taken an our after synthroid? never heard that but just read that here? also i am getting different information about whether cytomel can be taken with food, or on an empty stomach. also i am on yaz birth control, which i take several hours after my cytomel--is that ok? please help.
Avatar n tn Dx Central Hypothroidism and Hashimoto Taking synthroid 125 Endo added cytomel 10mcg due to low ft3 and persistent hypo symptoms.Feeling terrible and even worse with added titre (cytomel) 10mcg. Rang Endo and told me to stop with cytomel. Is that possible that such a low dose could make me feel awful...double vison, sense of nausea, some palpitations...to add to my already hypo symptoms...plus ft3 and ft4 have not risen even a tiny bit. I'm really confused at this point.
Avatar f tn What is food and supplements are safe to consume with Cytomel. I am actively trying to lose weight through diet and exercise and feel like I am fighting with a brick wall. Very defeating! I eat certain things or take different supplements, I get extreme reactions. Please advise. . .
822804 tn?1298226302 My doctor prescribed cytomel 25mcg and lowered my synthroid to 125mcg...the cytomel is the generic brand, not sure if this will make a difference. How do you take the cytomel?morning, afternoon, evening and do you take it with food?
Avatar f tn I just had my thyroidectomy a week and a half ago and got my prescription for cytomel. My prescription is for 25 mcg every twelve hours and my doctor said to take it on an empty stomach (4 hours w/o food), no solids for the first hour after taking it, and no calcium or citrus for four hours afterwards. AHHH! How do I do this? I can deal with no milk in my morning coffee, but what about dinner? Any advice or help? I think that this is just until my RAI in a month or so. THANKS!
Avatar f tn Is Cytomel the same as Armour when it comes to taking it without food before and waiting an hour after you take it to eat anything? At the moment I'm treating it as if it were Armour.
Avatar n tn Thx for replying:) I don't have them off hand but I'm not resistant and I don't have any food sensitivities so I'm just wondering why the cytomel makes me so sleepy and sick and the SR. T3 doesn't.
Avatar f tn Good questions. It makes sense that if I weren't taking meds I would go back to being hypo. My most recent symptoms (why I moved my endo appt up a couple of weeks prior to my regularly scheduled follow up) were fatigue, disorientation, nauseau, panic attacks, feeling like I could't get enough air or feeling a bit faint, a bit jittery. Noticed slight shaking when I write.
Avatar f tn He added 1/2 of a 25 mcg tablet of Cytomel ONCE a day and lowered my Synthroid to .75 mcg. I just started yesterday and after reading some things on the internet, I decided to take the half of pill - one half at a time - morning and afternoon. So, I am taking a little over 6 mcg twice a day. I don't want to get any heart palpitations and hoping the Cytomel can help me feel better. I am basically exhausted, just feel flu-like, hard to function or want to do anything.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what the starch in Cytomel is made from? I called Pfizer but no one has called me back yet. I'm sensitive to corn and am trying to find out if it's corn starch.
Avatar f tn Then take cytomel three times a day. the synthroid is 75mcg and the cytomel is 5mcg 3 times a day which equals 15 mcg a day. My labs read TSH =1.33, T4,free =0.8 and T3,free =2.5 He said my numbers are at the low end. He changed me from Naturethroid to this. How do I combine these properly? I find it hard to take the 3 pills a day because of my work schedule. I read not to take cytomel at night because it interferes with sleep. Is this correct? Thanks for the help.
Avatar f tn I took Cytomel for a year and it was a miracle med for me. Previous treatment with T4 alone did nothing for me that I could feel. With the addition of Cytomel, I felt great and was able to eat a normal amount of food without gaining weight. When I changed insurance coverage, I had to use the generic form of T3. It didn't work like the Cytomel did. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? My labs were not different on the Cytomel, but I felt so much better.
Avatar f tn I was told to take it away from food, and 4 hours away from iron or calcium.
Avatar f tn Usually after 3pm it starts, just general nausea, queasy, and some tightness in the chest, almost like acid reflux, but it is everyday and i feel ok otherwise. And upset stomach is off and on cramps with soft and loose stool.
Avatar f tn Just got new script for Synthroid combined with Cytomel and my Endo wants me to take the Synthroid and half the dose of the Cytomel in the morning and the rest of the Cytomel in the evening. My question is if there is anyone who has a similar script, do you take the evening dose before bed or before dinner? Thanks.
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar f tn Yes we need to see your most recent thyroid labs with ranges please. I am on Synthroid and Cytomel both. And once you find a level of Cytomel that works, you can have it compounded into a time release, so it stays in your bloodstream at a constant level. The only time patients normally go on Cytomel only, is if their reverse T3 level is high.
1070570 tn?1283436213 Thank you laura for your quick response! It makes me feel good that someone would take the time to respond to me. I have been told I have a conversion issue due to a high RT3 level in April (352)- don't convert T4 to T3 optimally, instead it converts to RT3 which cancels out the T3 that's trying to get into my cells. That's why I was wondering if increasing the synthroid was just gonna increase my RT3 and make me feel worse.
Avatar f tn Free T3 levels must be checked regularly, along with TSH and Free T4, when taking cytomel. Cytomel is usually not recommended unless you have a conversion problem or for some other reason, your Free T3 is out of line. In addition, you should constantly be aware of any symptoms that might indicate that you are taking too much. Oldie - I, too, have heard that cytomel should not be used by persons with heart issues.
Avatar f tn It turns out, my tsh levels are off the charts and T3 is too low to even measure. My doctor took me off the cytomel last week. I am a fitness and diet instructor and have put on four pounds this week. I have reduced my calorie intake to dangerous levels but I am still putting on weight. I am starting to lose my mind a little bit and need some help! How can I keep the weight gain at bay until the cytomel leaves my system?
744962 tn?1270942038 I have been taken off Armour thyroid and now use 50mg of Thyroxin and 10 mg of Cytomel. Is it better to take both at the same time first thing in the morning or to take them at different times. I hope Cytomel will increase my energy levels with time.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone out there has ever tried adding in 25 mg of cytomel to level things out. I just received some and was going to add it in but i didn't want to screw things up more than they already are. If anyone has any answers or opinions let me know.
793305 tn?1493925518 I currently take 5 mcg of Cytomel and .88 mg of Levoxyl. After doing research I sought out a Dr. in my community that prescribed Cytomel. That little bit does make a difference for me. I have never felt like I did before Hashimoto's in many respects, but I personally feel that Cytomel helped my energy level much more than the traditional sole replacement therapy!
Avatar f tn I just started cytomel in addition to the synthyroid I have been taking daily for two years. ??? Do I take on an empty stomach and wait to eat?? Or can I take and eat immediately?? My endo said to wait to eat, but pharmacists said I could eat with cytomel as long as no calcium, vitamins taken. Thanks.
458072 tn?1291415186 Cytomel is a T3 - the only way this would benefit you would be if your T3 is low and need to get that level up. Low T3 could cause anxiety but you need to know your thyroid blood panel to really see if you need it. Cytomel is not really a med to control anxiety. Xanax is the most given or a generic.
332168 tn?1201026915 I had a TT in Sept. and RAI in Nov. During the time between the TT and RAI, I took only Cytomel and did fine on it. Currently I take 137 of Levothyroxine and 25 mcg of Cytomel. I was taking a half tablet in the morning and once in the early afternoon, but I couldn't manage to remember to take the afternoon dose in a timely fashion, and sometimes was kept up at night.
1058524 tn?1285187240 I had a TT 5 weeks ago. For 2 weeks I was on Levothyroxine 175 1x daily . Then I got the news I "had" cancer and was to stop Levothyroxine and take Cytomel 25 2xs a day. *Levothyroxine I would take in the morning/empty/with h20 no food for 1 hour *Cytomel I take one in the morning 8-9am same as above, then one at 9pm My question is I felt amazing on Levothyroxine (alive again!) and I feel OK on Cytomel. My issue is I am really tired between the hours of 2pm and 6pm.
Avatar f tn re taking all the cytomel at one time. You can split the 25 mcg cytomel pills and take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 later in the day, so you won't get the initial over medicated feeling, then crash and feel hypo. Additionally, once you've solved the RT3 issue, you should be okay balancing out the T4/T3 meds. If you need to increase the T4 med, but don't want to jump to 50 mcg, you could try alternating 25 mcg and 50 mcg for a 2-day average of 37.5 mcg........
