Cytomel and constipation

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and constipation

cytomel

Avatar f tn I've been on Cytomel for a few months now because my Free T3 was very low. (Pap cancer 3 years ago, TT 2006, Synthroid 125 mcg.) I started on a whole 5 mcg tablet and for some reason it was determined that I'm very sensitive to it. So I started with 1/4 per day and have, over time, worked my way up to 1/2 pill in the morning and the other 1/2 at 3pm. I feel great now, no problems at all.
Avatar n tn Are you using the T3 as a laxative? It doesn't work like that. If you are constipated, you need to use a laxative/high fiber diet, not a T3 med. Are you dosing yourself? 40 mcg is most likely too much, which could be why you have the nausea and sickness. I've been on cytomel for over 9 months and my metabolism is just now beginning to return to normal, but still has a ways to go. Even with a higher metabolism, you may still be constipated. What are your thyroid levels?
Avatar f tn Okay, I'm 2 years post-op from my total thyroidectomy. Feeling great, taking Synthroid, hair loss seems to be slowing down, no days of feeling bad, life is good. I go in last week for my regular bloodwork and this morning the doc calls and says my T4 is great but my T3 is low and he's putting me on 5mg of Cytomel once a day. What can I expect on this medication? I've never taken it and I don't really read the posts about it because I didn't really know what it was.
Avatar f tn I would take your iron 4 hrs after the cytomel and then again with dinner or before bed. I took for 2 months and brought my levels up. Now I just take one a day. I'm pretty sure you can take the vit D whenever. I take mine at night.
988694 tn?1332359479 Back in November I had these results, I was taking 2 grains of NT and something like 30 mg of Cytomel. I felt very nervous and anxious and could not concentrate, I had constipation, hair loss, bleeding before period, and headaches: TSH: 0.01 0.4-4.50 Free T4: 0.8 0.8-1.8 Free T3 4.2 2.3 -4.2 Reverse T3: 28 11-32 I started then taking 100 Synthroid and 2 and 1/4 grains NT. After a month in this dose: TSH: 0.01 0.4-4.50 Free T4: 2.2 0.8-1.8 Free T3: 5.
Avatar f tn I wonder why you are only on Cytomel and not a T4 drug as well. I would suggest you go to an endo and get on the right combination of drugs so you can feel better. Get your TGab and TPOab tests for Hashimoto's. I have Hashimoto's. I get the chronic sinus infections, simply because my immunity is lower due to my disease. I take Flonase and Zyrtec. That has helped tremendously.
Avatar n tn I had a colonoscopy which was fine and several other tests which were all good, but my TSH levels are up and down every 6 weeks. I started Cytomel yesterday, and it sounds silly but I am really hopeful and excited that it will help. Should I request an ultrasound? Thanks so much for help and suggestions!
Avatar n tn but kind of sluggish and I get muscle pain and some constipation. When I increased to 137.5 mcg Synthroid, 12.5 Cytomel, I feel much better,no muscle pain. Is that too much medication? My endocrinologist is surprised I feel different with such a small change. Says it's O.K. but we have to monitor because of heart risks. Am I taking chances? Please explain.
Avatar f tn By the way - ARE those FREE T4 and FREE T3? Hopefully, they are.......but please confirm that.
Avatar n tn m on Levoxyl and my doctor just put me on Cytomel as well and I still have all these symptoms. severe myalgia(eating low carb helps a bit), weight gain with servere constipation(Had colectomy which helped some), I just can't seem to find any relief. Please give me any thoughts on what could be checked or changed. What is a good range for TSH if still having symptoms? less than what? Please please any thoughts.
Avatar f tn s the case try adding some cytomel alongside your armour or try decreasing a little at a time on the armour and replacing it with cytomel (approx 25 mcg cytomel equals 1 grain of armour).
Avatar f tn s waiting for my TSH to go up, but I know that it wont and I still have exclusively hypo symptoms like constipation and cold feet. I don't have any Hyper symptoms. I have not been symptom free since going Hypo because initially (for three years) I was given T4 medicine only despite my T3 being below range. I need both T4 and T3 and need to find a doctor that will give me both, test my FT3/Ft4 and consider my symptoms.
Avatar f tn This was followed by RAI even though the nodule was small (12mm) and had not spread to the lymph nodes. After RAI, I was put on 125mcg L-thyroxine and up to 75mcg cytomel a day. As I tapered off the cytomel, my hypothyroidism symptoms began to return. Blood work was done (TSH 0.03) and my doctor's PA reduced by L-thyroxine to 116mcg per day and by then I was totally off cytomel anyway. Now, two months later, I have had more blood work done. Here are the results: TSH 0.
Avatar f tn and 10 of cytomel in the AM and afternoon. I eat a high fiber diet take two Colace tablets at night and have added Miralax daily . I exercise regularly and drink mainly water. I am doing all I can and still I have constant issues. I have never had a problem with constipation until my thyroid went bad. I was THE most regular person.
1202943 tn?1347840652 I was feeling pretty hypo with fatigue, facial/eye swelling, constipation, and always cold. My dr wanted me to lower my dose but I convinced her to increase my cytomel(from 5mcg twice a day to 7.5 twice a day) and decrease synthroid(137mcg to 125mcg). I have had improvement on all symptoms, but still feel hypo. My dr said my levels looked a little high and if I feel jittery I can reduce the dose or stay where I am.
Avatar n tn What other tests can be done if there might be a pituitary gland problem? I take Levothyroxine and Cytomel.
Avatar f tn I read your question and I am confused. You were on Synthroid and Cytomel. Cytomel is a T3 drug. Why did you want to switch? Why did your doctor allow that switch without testing you appropriately using the Ft3 and Ft4 and trying to just tweak your meds? Switching thyroid meds is difficult and now being on Armour - it may take you quite a while to stabilize on it. Without correct testing - it's a guessing game on where you may need to tweak your meds.
Avatar f tn s common to adjust them both at the same time or lower synthroid when adding cytomel. Cytomel is a T3 only med and is about 4 times more potent than the T4 med (synthroid) and too high doses of either could very easily cause a swing to hypER. Cytomel is a fast acting med, but doesn't last in the body very long - so in effect, the doctor WAS raising her total dosage. Many people find that splitting the dose throughout the day helps.
Avatar f tn Had cancer, have scanned clean ever since. I take Synthroid 137 mcg and 1/4 of Cytomel. Had labs about 2 months ago (free T3 and free T4 not tested) and my T3 was low. He added Cytomel, a whole one was too much. Tried to take 1/2, still too much. He said take 1/4 for a month and retest. I requested free T3 and free T4 this time. Here are my new labs: I'm not gonna put all the Basic Metabolic Panel stuff since all of that was normal. Calcitriol (1,25 di-OH Vit D) 95.
Avatar n tn She should be agreeable to lowering my Synthroid (T4) and we are gradually increasing my Cytomel (T3). Originally for many years, my Cytomel dose was 5 mcg/day and we have increased it over the past 2 months to 25 mcg/day. I also agree my iron results are a bit confusing; may bear looking into further with my doctor. Thanks again....for the first time in 16 years (my cancer surgery was 16 years ago this very week!
988694 tn?1332359479 I remember when I first started treatment I was on Synthroid and Cytomel. I needed a lift and my doctor added just 5 mcg (I was taking 5 mcg already) of Cytomel and I went nuts with the anxiety, palpitations and horrible itching. I had to stop all together and start over with Naturethroid. Since I started with the headaches, 8 months ago, I became constipated and lost lots of weight. How can I be constipated with my frees in the upper range?
Avatar f tn Although i still continue to suffer from hypo symptoms such as severe hair loss, joint pain, constipation and brain fog, my energy has increased since adding the cytomel. I have not been able to find an endo knowledgeable or willing enough to help. however, i did find a general practitioner who is willing to try various meds. However, she is not very knowleadgeable with hypothyroidism. My last test are as follows: T4 of 10.8 ug/dl and the lab range is 4.5 -12.0 - T3 uptake of 3.
Avatar n tn I am on 150 mcg Synthroid and 12.5 mcg generic cytomel and my doctor thinks that I have too much medication, which is lowering my labs and creating worsening symptoms. I have cold intolerance, my hair is falling out, severe constipation, I am fatigued, and I still have all of the hypo symtoms so I am confused. Here are my labs: TSH: <.01 range= .40-5.0 uIU/mL Free T3: 2.4 range 1.7-3.7 pg/mL Free T4: 1.1 range 0.7-1.
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar f tn t and need help from Cytomel. If you felt better on Cytomel, tell your doctor and bypass the PA altogether. She apparently doesn't know what she's talking about!
Avatar f tn Free T3 levels must be checked regularly, along with TSH and Free T4, when taking cytomel. Cytomel is usually not recommended unless you have a conversion problem or for some other reason, your Free T3 is out of line. In addition, you should constantly be aware of any symptoms that might indicate that you are taking too much. Oldie - I, too, have heard that cytomel should not be used by persons with heart issues.
