Cytomel and calcium

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and calcium

cytomel

451191 tn?1264432890 ve been having the calcium tingles for the last few days that subside when I take a bunch of calcium/Vitamin D. Question is- how am I supposed to take both Cytomel and Calcium? Literature says not to take within 4 hours of eachother, but I figure I still have natural hormone in my body so getting my Calcium up is probably more important, right?
Avatar f tn I just had my thyroidectomy a week and a half ago and got my prescription for cytomel. My prescription is for 25 mcg every twelve hours and my doctor said to take it on an empty stomach (4 hours w/o food), no solids for the first hour after taking it, and no calcium or citrus for four hours afterwards. AHHH! How do I do this? I can deal with no milk in my morning coffee, but what about dinner? Any advice or help? I think that this is just until my RAI in a month or so. THANKS!
1129774 tn?1279831762 30 and eat breakfast at 7:00. I talked to the pharmacist and she said I can take the cytomel whenever. With breakfast I take all my vitamins Multi, calicum, mag,. probiotic, vit. d, and cranberry. Can I take both at 5:30 in the morning? Or should I wait until after breakfast. I decided to only start with one a day and see how I do. I am afraid of getting to much. Thanks.
299033 tn?1393301417 I take 100 mcg Levoxyl in the AM with 5 mcg T3, then I take 5 mcg T3 with lunch. Calcium, magnesium, selenium and other supplements get taken with dinner and at bedtime.
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar n tn I always take my synthroid upon waking early without food for 30 min. and wait till lunch for vitamins and calcium etc. I am also on the generic cytomel hence the pharmacy changed that so I hope it is the same. DId you feel any changed when you first added generic cytomel, just want to be prepared . Some say it takes a month for you to feel a difference, I am hoping adding it will make my muscles aches go away since I have low normal t3.
197575 tn?1215532624 s so confusing b/c I have calcium tingles post my TT three days ago, but have also been prescribed Cytomel until we determine that Thyrogen will work for my scan/RAI...like wth? Do I take the Cyto at 4am and then the calcium at 8am and then more calcium at noon and then the cyto at 4??? Jeez.
Avatar f tn I have recently started to take the Cytomel at 8am and again at 1pm. I take my calcium at 6pm and 9pm in the evening. I have always taken my multivitamin at noon. My multivitamin has some calcium in it . Will it interfere with my Cytomel? Should I take my multivitamin at 6 with my dinner?
694885 tn?1232649948 The Rocaltrol is calcium. Because your parathryroids (which produce calcium and live in your thyroid) will undoubtedly be somewhat jostled in the process of removing your thyroid, your surgeon wants to make sure you have an adequate supply of calcium. Thus the perscription. Some people have little or no problem with this, some have huge issues. If you are not taking any T4 meds now then there would be no reason for you to take the Cytomel now.
Avatar f tn I had a thyrodectemy in April 2016. I was still having symptoms but not gaining weight. My Dr. decided to add cytomel, which I am excited about. So my Dr. lowered my synthroid to 125 mg 6x's a week and 5 mg of cytomel 4x's a week. I am also taking calcium twice a day at 600mg and 40,000 IU once a week with calcitrol twice a day as well. At first I was getting anxiety as a result of taking cytomel, but everytime I took my calcitrol I became so tired. My Dr.
186166 tn?1385259382 saturday morning was told that i could leave that day and was given my first dose of cytomel (25). within 30 minutes i felt "loopy" and my head started to pound. i am also to chew tums (3 - 3 x day) until i go for a followup in two weeks. i feel like crap and am not a happy camper...gggrrrrrr.
Avatar f tn I would take your iron 4 hrs after the cytomel and then again with dinner or before bed. I took for 2 months and brought my levels up. Now I just take one a day. I'm pretty sure you can take the vit D whenever. I take mine at night.
744962 tn?1270942038 I have been taken off Armour thyroid and now use 50mg of Thyroxin and 10 mg of Cytomel. Is it better to take both at the same time first thing in the morning or to take them at different times. I hope Cytomel will increase my energy levels with time.
Avatar f tn I am on synthroid and cytomel. I take some other vitamins 6 to 8 hours later. I would like to take a calcium supplement. I know I have to wait at least 4 hours after the synthroid and cytomel, but does introducing calcium supplementation change thyroid levels. Should I get retested in 6 weeks. I thought I read somewhere that calcium stay in th e blood an could change thyroid levels regardless of when you take it. Also, anyone try Maca or l-tyrosine?
Avatar n tn Hi, I was taking the phendimetrizine before with my syn, was working pretty well, with no heart rhythm problems, but I have just gotten cytomel added to my agenda on Friday and have not taken the phen since, because I was not sure, but in reference to the cytomel, does this have to be taken on empty stomach and does calcium affect, kinda like the syn--and can the syn and cytomel be taken at the same time, or should I take one in the am and one in the pm?? I am on 5mcg of cytomel and 0.
Avatar f tn Anyone switch from Cytomel to compounded TR T3 and have hives? Is the microcrystalline filler in both? I switched to compounded so I could titration my dose up in small increments but over the course of the last few months I've developed horrible painful hives all over my neck and scalp. Any information would be helpful. Desperate!
491352 tn?1258807095 I had a terrible time with Synthroid. I switched post TT, after about 3 months on Levothyroxine and Cytomel combo. I almost immediately puffed up like a marshmellow and had severe joint/arthritis pain. I dubbed myself "Princess Bloat-a-lot"... I've since switched to Levoxyl and added the Cytomel back in, and the issues seem to be dissipating. I also have calcium, vit D issues. I'm working on that as well with 50,000 IU's per week.
Avatar f tn Just got new script for Synthroid combined with Cytomel and my Endo wants me to take the Synthroid and half the dose of the Cytomel in the morning and the rest of the Cytomel in the evening. My question is if there is anyone who has a similar script, do you take the evening dose before bed or before dinner? Thanks.
Avatar f tn they damaged my parathyroids and left me with sever Hypocalcemia (low calcium) which causes tetny (severe muscle spasms) because of the calcium. My thyroid levels and calcium levels have never been on the same page. Always needed more but had to wait and was told to give it more time. I've been to 5 Endocrinologists (and settled with the 5th one in Boston). Double up your thyroid medacine! take two instead of one! see how you feel! try if for a day or two or three.
Avatar f tn Could the Calcitriol and calcium supplements be suppressing the parathyroid glands? Do the PTH levels mean that the parathyroid glands are functioning on their own? Is it normal to have a low TSH level since I do not have a thyroid? Is it better to keep the calcium levels on the lower side of the range to minimize kidney damage? How often should the calcium and thyroid levels be checked?
Avatar m tn I am also on Vitamin D3 1000 a day and Calcium 1000 a day and multivitamin....I take the Welbutrin at Bedtime because I take the synthroid and cytomel in early am and take vitamins after dinner.....any suggestions.....
Avatar f tn It says take it once a day in the morning, It is a small dose because I can't have high lvls when I get the RAIT and I can't split it anyway. I have to take 8 calcium pills throughout the day. I have to get up at 8 or earlier just to take the cytomel so i can take my calcium before noon. You can't take any calcium within 4 hours of taking Cytomel. And I have to take 4 in the morning and 4 at night.
215461 tn?1331862765 5 (I just started that increase today) and also add the cytomel? My endo is terrible but he is the only one I can go to. I definitely would like the reference material to show him. He doesn't seem to know much about thyroids at all.
744962 tn?1270942038 dropped my T4 from 75mcg to 50 per day and introduced the Cytomel at 5mcg per day on Odd days of the month. Dropped the 100mcg of T4 to 75 to add the 5mcg of Cytomel on even days. Now going onto the third week. Somehow feel better taking both the T4 and T3 after breakfast and find my energy levels stay well during the day. When I took the T4 and T3 around 3am by 5 in the afernoon need to nap.
