Is it possible that my rash that I thought was from Cymbalta is actually a withdrawal symptom of it? I have been trying to get off Cymbalta because of the rash, but it seems to be getting worse. Maybe I have this all wrong...

For personal experience I can tell you that Cymbalta does cause withdrawal symptoms (abstinence syndrome). I was on Cymbalta for 6 months as prescribed for my Psychiatrist, after that I decided to do some research about possible withdrawal symptoms because my bad experience with lexapro in 2005. I found that Cymbalta can cause severe symptoms from withdrawal abruptly.

I have tried 5 times in 10 years to stop but never understood the ssri hold they have on me, every time I ask him about the serotonin syndrome with Cymbalta and Trams and he said its fine at 8 pills a day, I need to get off trams but the most I can seem to taper down to is 8-10 a day. Has anyone started Cymbalta after getting off 800mg of tramadol a day.

Went down to 50, 30, now 20mg of Cymbalta with bad withdrawal symptoms, mainly irritability and depression. Started Zoloft at 25mg yesterday. So currently I am on 20mg Cymbalta and 25mg Zoloft. I will stop the Cymbalta in about a week. Right now I just feel funny. I feel jazzed up and tense. I know taking combos of these drugs can cause serotonin syndrome, and I’m freaked out about that. Can anyone shed some insight? Would it be unlikely for the lowest doses of both these drugs to cause it?

I have no choice but to quit Cymbalta cold turkey. This frightens me as I know that sudden withdrawal will be hard on my already compromised nervous system.....I need help as I feel I am running out of time.

ve felt worse lately with the doctor tapering the celexa down so fast and then adding this new drug to the mix. I also forgot to mention that hes got me on cymbalta now too, 60mg. I'd have to say that i really felt better when i was just on the celexa and methadone alone. Just really tired and anxious. I'm really worried about taking these 4 drugs together. It just seems like a lot to me.

I didnt take the Prozac today (Sat) and I am told to start the Cymbalta this Monday ( in 2 days) I have had withdrawal problems b4 with quick weaning off of Paxil and dont want to experience Seratonin syndrome ,end up in the ER ect.. I am also on ritalin,Lamicital,Abilify,attenalol.... Should I do this quick transition to cymbalta? My Dr said we dont have time to do it slow.. I feel he is having me do something Reckless.

I stopped Cymbalta cold turkey 1 month ago.. I had taken it for 5-6 months... The brain zaps, what you are describing as electrical shocks running thru your body and brain, lasted for 3 weeks. Now I'm brain zaps free. The withdrawal torture can last for 1 month maybe a bit more depending on how long you've been on the medication.

Oh, I forget to mention.... It is very unlikly that his problem was related to the Cymbalta causing Serotonin Syndrome. That's because Cymbalta does not act on Serotonin such as more traditional SSRI medications do. Cymbalta is an SNRI and acts mainly on Neurephinepherine neurotransmitters, and not Serotonin Neurotransmitters.

Looking at the possible interactions we should exclude Topamax, I don't think it could interfere badly with the Cymbalta even if there's a small interaction there. Indeed, Tramadol have SNRI proprieties just like Cymbalta but to a lesser extant. If the doctor prescribed those to you it's ok since serotonin syndrome is very unlike. Serotonin syndrome is a rare medical condition that rarely cause trouble. If you experience fever and agitation I would report ASAP at the ER.

I cannot diagnose your current symptoms but it certainly could be that you did experience a withdrawal reaction to Cymbalta. In my patients with similar reactions I would expect that these symptoms may take 7-10 days to clear but certainly close follow-up with your physician is necessary, In my patients, when I attempt to wean my patients off cymbalta, I will sometimes have them reduce just one dose a week (ie take 60mg 6 days a week and 40mg once a week). The only other thing ive been taking is the lowest dose of ativan 3 times daily, ran out about the same time as the cymbalta, and started at the same time as cymbalta, So my question is, is this some kind of withdrawal from either drug? I would think only one month wouldnt be long enough...

My own opinion, and it's only that, is that you suffered one of the big drawbacks of snris, which is a wallop of a withdrawal when you try to stop taking it. You stopped almost cold turkey, two weeks being a very short time to stop taking these drugs. The Zoloft doesn't substitute for Cymbalta -- no drug would, really -- and the symptoms you describe are classic withdrawal symptoms.

Did your doc just tell you to stop the Effexor and start the Cymbalta? What dose of Effexor are you stopping at, and what dose of Cymbalta are you starting at? Some people have seamless transitions, while others report some symptoms of a discontinuation syndrome, like you mentioned above. Hopefully, you'll have a smooth transition. some people have very uncomfortable symptoms, and others have none at all. Starting the Cymbalta may reduce your withdrawal to some extent, as Cymbalta is a serotonin (and norepinephrine) reuptake blocker, and some of the withdrawal from Tramadol comes from changes in serotonin activity. The withdrawal is not 'dangerous', so do your best to avoid concentrating on them. Distraction is one thing that can help reduce withdrawal symptoms.

I'm guessing you're suffering Effexor withdrawal, not Cymbalta withdrawal. It's not impossible to get a withdrawal from a short stay on a med, but unlikely. Sometimes a med just affects someone more profoundly than one would expect. But given you just came off Effexor, that being one of the hardest meds to stop taking and one that can have long withdrawals, I'm guess you didn't successfully stop it slowly enough to prevent withdrawals.
