cymbalta

1125419 tn?1259705049 I am currently switching from Cymbalta to Prozac. Was talking 60mg Cymbalta, doctor said to take 30mg for a week, start Prozac 20mg. I am experiencing severe leg cramps. Is that a side effect of coming off the Cymbalta?
Avatar f tn I changed from cymbalta to prozac. Cymbalta has terrible side effects and withdrawal symptoms. You must use caution when changing. With my doctor's guidance (and my research) this is what i did to make the change: For the first three days, remove two (2) grains of medication from the capsule. The next three (3) days, remove 4 grains from the capsule. The next three (3) days, remove 6 grains from the capsule; and so on until you are off the medication.
Avatar n tn HI I've been taking Cymbalta for a few years. It's not covered by my new insurance company so I asked my psychopharmacologist if I could change to something else. He suggested Prozac. I took Prozac many years ago with no problem so I agreed. At his suggestion, I stopped the Cymbalta cold turkey (90mg) and switched the next day to Prozac (60 mg).
Avatar m tn I have been using Cymbalta for alomost four years, I am very concerned that my Doc wants to start me on 40mg of Prozac when I have been on 120mg of Cymbalta. Can I have your thoughts about 40mg vs. 120mg and what side affects I will have to go though.
Avatar f tn My doc switched me to Cymbalta. In the past 3 months I’ve gained 15 pounds. I want to switch back to Prozac. How should I do that?
Avatar n tn There are lots of different kinds of anti-depressants. None of them are exactly the same as each other, but they fall into different categories. Prozac is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Cymbalta is a norephrine reuptake inhibitor, which is a VERY similar group, but it acts on adrenaline as well as serotonin, and is therefore stronger and has stronger side effects. I've been on both kinds, and found them both fine, except that the SSRI didn't work for me.
475307 tn?1209791613 I'm not familar with cymbalta but if it's anything like prozac then yes it could very well be causing your palpitations. When I quit taking prozac I got them more frequently. If its causing you to be uncomfortable you should go to the doc.
1348086 tn?1370783185 Prozac tends to be better for depression than for anxiety, but then, so is Cymbalta, since both are also stimulating (Cymbalta much more so). On the other hand, if Prozac works, it's probably the least troublesome of all these meds. Cymbalta is liver toxic for many and one of the hardest to get off of, while Prozac is one of the easiest to come off of since it stays in the body for a lot longer time and therefore the withdrawal is, for most people, slower and easier.
Avatar n tn Also ask you doctor and pharmacist for a proper tapering schedule for Cymbalta. Maybe for withdrawal reasons you can break the capsules and take some twice a day and slowly taper off. At that point I really don't know. My advices for now is that you should talk to your doctor and pharmacist to tell them your intention of quitting this drug. Being referred to a psychiatrist sounds like a possible option to maybe try other medications for withdrawal purposes.
Avatar n tn My dr said I could go down to 30mg of C, while adding 20mg of Prozac for 2 weeks. Then discontinue the cymbalta. I am weary of that because I was thinking when i discontinue the cymbalta to go up another 20 on Prozac, to make it 40mg all together, to lessen any effects. I know Prozac may take a but longer to get in your system. I am scared of this switch about side effects from cymbalta. Does this sounds like a good cross over to you, or would anyone recommend anything else? Thanks!!
1140035 tn?1276352098 I work with alzheimer's patients and I've seen what happens when meds such as the ones you are taking are taken away. I would almost bet money that your body needs to adjust to the Prozac, also maybe you're experiencing a withdrawal from the Cymbalta.
Avatar f tn It's not the way I would do it, especially since they're different classes of medication, cymbalta being an snri and Paxil an ssri. Further, if you take both at the same time, you won't know if something you feel is a side effect of Cymbalta or of withdrawal from Paxil. Both are very difficult for many to quit. If it were me, I'd want to quit the Paxil slowly, tapering down, getting through any withdrawal before starting another strong med like cymbalta.
Avatar n tn I'm guessing you're suffering Effexor withdrawal, not Cymbalta withdrawal. It's not impossible to get a withdrawal from a short stay on a med, but unlikely. Sometimes a med just affects someone more profoundly than one would expect. But given you just came off Effexor, that being one of the hardest meds to stop taking and one that can have long withdrawals, I'm guess you didn't successfully stop it slowly enough to prevent withdrawals.
Avatar m tn Hi! I have been taking Paxil for 20 years. I have recently been struggling w/ more intense anxiety and depression and irritability. I am switching from Paxil to Cymbalta, and am down from 30 mg of Paxil to 5 mg, and then up to 60 mg of Cymbalta. I feel like I am having a racing heart/palpitations. I am not sure if it's anxiety, Paxil withdrawal, side effects from Cymbalta, or there is something wrong with my heart.
Avatar f tn I think doctors can use another antidepressant like prozac to replace the cymbalta and then taper that one down to help with the side effects of withdrawal. It probably won't help with any pain relief you may have gotten with the cymbalta, though. I stopped my cymbalta before I ever had fibro. I was taking it for depression and it made me severely suicidal. All the Dr's kept telling me to just keep taking it. Finally I had had enough and just stopped it.
Avatar m tn Doctors don't agree on this, so you have to form your own opinion. First, I hope you're using a psychiatrist, because general docs don't do this as often and aren't as familiar with the meds. I have seen different views on this by different psychiatrists. There are books on the subject. Most psychiatrists and virtually all general docs are pretty clueless about it.
Avatar f tn I have been on 60mg Cymbalta for about 7 years. I decided to go off the medicine since I felt it was making me emotionally numb, foggy, hungry all the time, basically a zombie... the list goes on and on. I started to stop taking it slowly and when I reached the every 2 days part of weaning I went off cold turkey from there. The brain shocks and other withdrawal reactions were unbearable. I started feel great for about 1 week and then crashed. I have been severely depressed and anxious.
Avatar f tn Jan 7, 2014 my psychiatrist switched me from 60mg Cymbalta to 100mg Zoloft. The switch was made bc I felt after 5 yrs, the Cymbalta might be pooping out. The first week I took 30mg Cymbalta with 50mg Zoloft. After that week, I stopped Cymbalta and went to 100mg Zoloft. It's now a little over 4 weeks since the switch and I'm having panic attacks like I haven't had in years & also that disassociation feeling that goes along w/anxiety & depression.
Avatar f tn I took Effexor, too, at one time, and the withdrawals were bad on it, as well. The devil, Prozac, didn't have that effect on me, but gees, Cymbalta is the worst. Effexor had zero affect on me for depression - they had me taking so much I rattled when I walked. BUT, the withdrawals were really painful. It's amazing what we do to make ourselves better - but I know myself, personally, would go through just about anything to feel better than the normal bipolar crappola.
Avatar n tn I didnt taper off prozac and was fine
Avatar f tn Hi,hows everyone/ I have been doing great,,found out most of my problems were my thyroid and horrmones,I got off the prozac several months ago and now Im wanting off wellbutrin sr.I take 2 pills a day.I have been on it since june of 2010. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn Would you consider 120mg cymbalta and 60mg prozac as very gigh dose, doc just keeps increaing the cymbalta
Avatar f tn I have not taken Lexapro, but I have taken other SSRIs (Prozac, Effexor and Cymbalta). All of them caused the brain zaps. Effexor was the worst offender, and I tapered it ridiculously slowly, and the problem hung on for a very long time. At least I found out it was a withdrawal problem by them - after stopping Prozac I had the brain zaps and suspected I was getting multiple sclerosis or something.
750716 tn?1263734643 I ran out of my anti-depressant 6 days ago, and decided I wouldn't renew the request for more as I've done almost a week without them. The withdrawal symptoms are absolutely dreadful, there are pages and pages on google about the very subject. I'm not convinced the anti depressant was helping anyway as I'm often having mixed episodes even with a mood stabiliser added in, which is Tegretol.
633768 tn?1232834261 I WENT TO MY DR TODAY , AND HE PUT ME ON PROZAC 20 MGS ADAY. 462675 tn?1206697609 I have found a website regarding cympbalta i am on 90 mg and my doctor was going to add 2 other kinds of depression meds ( we never got there) She told me to stop everything ( I think I am pregnant) before I took my cymbalta off I was having Dizzy spells enought to fell like I am fainting but not, vomitting A LOT.
Avatar n tn Cymbalta withdrawal...been there never wanna go back. I was also at 60 mgs and whenever I took a dose late or missed a day I got the brain zaps, plus I didn't feel like it was working all that well. AND, my psych NP neglected to warn me that it can be very hard on the liver and as a recovering alcoholic I should never have been put on it in the first place. I ditched her. I tapered very slow.
Avatar m tn She also switched my prozac to Cymbalta 30mg once daily to manage depression / pain and also started me on 25mg amatriptyline at bed time for I assume depression. What she didn't tell me is how to stop prozac and start Cymbalta, I read you can't take both.
