Cymbalta withdrawal brain zaps

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta withdrawal brain zaps

cymbalta

Avatar f tn I stopped Cymbalta cold turkey 1 month ago.. I had taken it for 5-6 months... The brain zaps, what you are describing as electrical shocks running thru your body and brain, lasted for 3 weeks. Now I'm brain zaps free. The withdrawal torture can last for 1 month maybe a bit more depending on how long you've been on the medication.
1140035 tn?1276352098 Although my pain management specialst had never heard of it, my brain zaps from opioids withdrawal were worse than from Lyrica and Cymbalta. He said that brain zaps are usually associated with SSRI and SNRI withdrawal, like Cymbalta, so he was very surprised to hear my case. Eventually, I was completely off all of these medicines, and, if I can help it, I will not use them again.
1042487 tn?1275279899 I'm suffering with the brain zaps after coming off of Lexapro. I tapered off the Lexapro, incrementally and very, very slow. The withdrawal symptoms didn't start right away with my last dose which fooled me into thinking I would miss that part. But, alas not to be. Anyway, it's been 28 days with the zaps, shakiness, and irritablility. I started taking Primrose Oil and doubling up on my fish oil (2000mgs) around 10 days ago.
Avatar n tn I'm guessing you're suffering Effexor withdrawal, not Cymbalta withdrawal. It's not impossible to get a withdrawal from a short stay on a med, but unlikely. Sometimes a med just affects someone more profoundly than one would expect. But given you just came off Effexor, that being one of the hardest meds to stop taking and one that can have long withdrawals, I'm guess you didn't successfully stop it slowly enough to prevent withdrawals.
Avatar m tn I was on Cymbalta for a little over a month. How long will I experience withdrawal symptoms such as brain zaps and dizziness?
Avatar f tn For personal experience I can tell you that Cymbalta does cause withdrawal symptoms (abstinence syndrome). I was on Cymbalta for 6 months as prescribed for my Psychiatrist, after that I decided to do some research about possible withdrawal symptoms because my bad experience with lexapro in 2005. I found that Cymbalta can cause severe symptoms from withdrawal abruptly.
Avatar f tn I never heard of an antidepressant causing seizure while stopping cold turkey buy you will most likely experience brain zaps which are electric shock-like sensations lasting for a second thru your entire brain and sometimes spreading to other areas. Brain zaps are not to be confused with seizures. Both are extremely different and brain zaps are not dangerous at all. You might have to endure them for up to 1 month, Another description of the medication you want to quit would have been useful.
Avatar f tn Dear Doctors A week ago I have stopped my therapy with Cymbalta. I have had anxiety's problems. I have took off the medication in 3 months from 60 mg to 15 mg..to 10...to 5....to 0 mg!! Now I'ts a week that I have brain zaps...here in Italy all the psichiatrists told me that it's an anxiety's symptom. I know that it's not true...because in all the time that I have not took antidepressants (3 years)...I haven't had IT!!...
Panda I have been on Cymbalta (60 mg) for over two years for treatment of fibromyalgia/depression/anxiety. I recently went down to 40 mg, and after two days was a basket case. Constant brain zaps, a feeling like my entire brain was bruised, severe body aches, increased anxiety and agitation/aggression (which to me was the most frightening). I went back up to 60 mg. Four days later, I am still experiencing the bruised brain feeling and anxiety.
1128565 tn?1316721143 Hi Its Lorraine again !! Silly me carn't find my new anti-depressants prescribed by specialist - 20 mgs Citalopram. The Dr's seem to be having trouble checking info with hospital, they need to verify the new tablets. In the mean time they have left me without any anti-depressants, I know you can get really ill if you don't take them. Up to now I feel ok, but scared I may go down hill !! Feeling quite good at present and wondering whether I could stay off them ??
Avatar f tn s week and then they gradually got better and finally on the 4th week I was brain zaps free no withdrawal symptoms. 1 months to get off Cymbalta after 5-6 months of use. and trust me even if it sounds like 5-6 months is not long well 1 month is probably the longer period you will have to endure brain zaps because the brain will eventually adapt to the chance.
Avatar f tn I have not taken Lexapro, but I have taken other SSRIs (Prozac, Effexor and Cymbalta). All of them caused the brain zaps. Effexor was the worst offender, and I tapered it ridiculously slowly, and the problem hung on for a very long time. At least I found out it was a withdrawal problem by them - after stopping Prozac I had the brain zaps and suspected I was getting multiple sclerosis or something.
530150 tn?1284658880 Weaning off both drugs was painful. Ativan helped wtih the brain zaps and twiches I got, I also got some anxiety as well. I'm not on a med that helps with both chronic pain and depression without all the other issues. I'm not saying it won't work for you, just be aware I've never been on a ssri or snri longer then 5 yrs, they've all "pooped" out on me. They do work great for the first while though. Just keep an eye on yourself, monitoring your moods.
Avatar f tn I haven't taken Cymbalta or Paxil, so I can't give a personal withdrawal experience for those specific drugs. However, I have taken other SSRIs and SNRIs, and while the withdrawal effects can be really unsettling and uncomfortable, they do decrease in severity and eventually go away with time. I wonder whether the tremors are a side effect from starting Paxil, or a withdrawal symptom from weaning off the Cymbalta, or both?
Avatar f tn I have in the last 4 months tapered myself off the cymbalta and I am suffering from withdrawal symptoms. I have been two weeks totally off this drug . The dizziness and brain zaps are getting better, but my taste buds are still horrible. It feels like the front of my tongue has been burnt and it feels like my teeth are coated with rubber. How long do these withdrawal symptoms last. I can handle it all, but the taste bud sensation is horrible.
Avatar m tn I have a hard time believing this because these symptoms feel like little brain zaps that you get from lexapro withdrawal. I recently went down to 5 mg and the symptoms seemed to worsen. However, going up to 20mg made me feel weird. Currently I am transitioning to Cymbalta and I am off lexapro. It has only been a few days but the brain zaps are terrible! Can anyone please help me figure out what is going on, and how long I might experience these horrible symptoms!?
Avatar n tn Cymbalta withdrawal...been there never wanna go back. I was also at 60 mgs and whenever I took a dose late or missed a day I got the brain zaps, plus I didn't feel like it was working all that well. AND, my psych NP neglected to warn me that it can be very hard on the liver and as a recovering alcoholic I should never have been put on it in the first place. I ditched her. I tapered very slow.
1580828 tn?1322128022 My question is if I miss one dose of the cymbalta within a day I have the brain bashing migraine and the severe dizziness as bad as when it first occurred. Plus the fibro pain returns. Is this withdrawal from the drug or has the drug actually been keeping these things in check for me all this time and I would have been worse off sooner if I didn't start taking it to begin with (for anixety and quit smoking). Any help is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn When I got off Cymbalta rather quickly in order to start an MAOI, I had what others call "brain zaps" but for me it felt like static and was not painful.
Avatar f tn Dear All. A week ago I have stopped my therapy with Cymbalta. I have anxiety's problems. I have took off the medication in 3 months from 60 mg to 5 mg....to 0 mg!! Now I'ts a week that i have brain zaps...here in Italy all the psichiatrists I have asked..Say that it's an anxiety's symptom. I know that it's not real...because in all the time that I have not took antidepressants...I haven't had IT!!... What can i do to exceed this effect of suspension?...Thank you!!
Avatar n tn I have been taking 60mg of Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia for about 6mos. now. I decided to have my doctor take me off of the medicine b/c I wanted to try a more natural approach....5-htp. My dr. suggested I drop down to 30mg for 1 week (which I did) and then take 30mg every other day. I just started this process and I feel god awful. I skipped Monday night and all yesterday I had what they call brain zaps (thanks to google), horrible nightmares, fatigue (I'll deal w/ this one), and nausea.
1128565 tn?1316721143 What helped me during the cold trukey Cymbalta withdrawal was low activity level and avoiding walking and moving my head too much. I would watch tv or stay in bed. Just going for a walk could give me 50 brain zaps in 20 min while when I was watching tv I had none. You need to stay relax and avoid too much activity because activity is demanding on your neurotransmitters. Healthy diet is another important thing.
1442059 tn?1340240952 I had no side-effects. The withdrawal was kinda bad... At least 100 brain zaps a day, irritability etc... But I did quit cold turkey and only had to endure this for 1 month. Now that Lyme disease is affecting my life terribly with late stage symptoms I am thinking of getting back on Cymbalta since it's really the only AD that worked for me at giving me a kick to start my day. It is also a good analgesic for neuropathic pain and various other pains.
Business woman1 After going down 20 mg for two days, I was a basket case. Constant brain zaps, feeling that my entire brain was bruised, severe body aches, increased anxiety and worst of all severe agitation/aggression (which is not at all like me). After two days of that hell, I went back to my usual dose of 60 mg. Nearly a week later, and I'm still headachy and just don't feel well at all.
Avatar f tn The last time this happened the vibrations felt like caused some sort of fluid to run out of my ear that was face down on the pillow. I have had some brain zaps during the day associated with cymbalta which i was taking for neuropathy. I also had a neck fusion about 8 wks ago and 2 weeks ago was involved in another car accident where i was rear-ended. Can you give me any advice?
Avatar f tn This will go away. The brain zaps quit with me first but the nausea stayed for awhile. Have the brain zaps quit for you yet? Hang in there, okay. We're here to support you. M4you always gives great advice. He was trying to explain to you why your having these withdrawal symptoms.Sometimes it helps to know why your going through what your going through.
