cymbalta with prozac

I am currently switching from Cymbalta to Prozac. Was talking 60mg Cymbalta, doctor said to take 30mg for a week, start Prozac 20mg. I am experiencing severe leg cramps. Is that a side effect of coming off the Cymbalta?

I changed from cymbalta to prozac. Cymbalta has terrible side effects and withdrawal symptoms. You must use caution when changing. With my doctor's guidance (and my research) this is what i did to make the change: For the first three days, remove two (2) grains of medication from the capsule. The next three (3) days, remove 4 grains from the capsule. The next three (3) days, remove 6 grains from the capsule; and so on until you are off the medication.

all drs love to push pills and you are on a new type of ssri med with cymbalta and the old prozac pills back in the olden days and i dont hear good things about the tricyclics. can cause eventaully strokes and other negative pills side effects. why are you on 2 anti depression meds. take one or the other. you need to be open and tell dr what you want not what he wants. trust me!!

i take adhd meds along with a host of other meds for various reasons but i've heard cymbalta helps with pain so i'm hoping it will help enough to get off pain meds. i don't know if you will be able to get off pain meds but it's worth a try, maybe we can at least cut down on them! narnia41, posted above, said it didn't help and may cause mania which i don't need, and is hard to get off of.

She also switched my prozac to Cymbalta 30mg once daily to manage depression / pain and also started me on 25mg amatriptyline at bed time for I assume depression. What she didn't tell me is how to stop prozac and start Cymbalta, I read you can't take both.

I was on Prozac for over 10 years with great results. When I started having headaches again, the first the Dr flew to was the Prozac and said I had been on it too long and it was not effective any longer. Since that time, it's been 6 months of daily headaches and countless medications and nothing has completely stopped them. At this time I started out with Cymbalta 30 mg for 6 weeks and am now up to 60mg daily and I can notice a slight improvement.

The psychiatrist weaned me off of cymbalta back in March and April while introducing with notriptyline stepping up to 75mg. I have been on the full 75mg since the end of April. I went today for my scheduled appointment and let him know that I didn't think it was helping. He had stated something about getting me back on cymbalta with something called deplin as a supplement. I told him that I would rather not get back on cymbalta due to the awful side effects that the weaning had.

I have been using Cymbalta for alomost four years, I am very concerned that my Doc wants to start me on 40mg of Prozac when I have been on 120mg of Cymbalta. Can I have your thoughts about 40mg vs. 120mg and what side affects I will have to go though.

I have never been on prozac, but I have been on alot of other anti-deoressants Im on Cymbalta and you can have w/ds from Cymbalta and any anti=depressant needs to be taperd and only a very few I mean very few have w/ds!! Me im lucky I among the few the dumb and depressed, so I have w/ds from SOME anti-depressants but im not screwed up like I was. Most people are using or abusing pain meds or something to cover up a much deeper problem.

So I slowly weaned off the lexapro and switched to cymbalta. For a week i took 5 mg of lexapro and a 30mg cymbalta. Now I am at a therapeutic dosage of 60mg cymbalta. And I also take clonozapem up to 3 times a day if I have panic attacks. Lexapro gave me gastroinstestinal side effects. While as Cymbalta now seems to give me sleep troubles/insomnia. However, sometimes the medication outweighs the side effects.

I did hear that some people have taken 10mg of prozac to help wean off the cymbalta so I tried that with Wellbutrin. No way I finally just cut them both off. 2 weeks ago I tried to come off this as well and I went back on because of the terrifying suicidal thoughts and anger I was having. I can't express this to you enough, this is going to be hard and from what I have heard it could take like 3 months for the withdrawal symptoms to completely leave.

I have taken 10-20mg Prozac for 10 yrs now, off and on. It helped a great deal with depression and panic attacks, but not so much with the generalized anxiety or agoraphobia. It also put alot of weight on me. But helped me sleep better at night too. Also helped with PMS, but oddly messed up my cycles. Overall, it was a good drug.

Doctors don't agree on this, so you have to form your own opinion. First, I hope you're using a psychiatrist, because general docs don't do this as often and aren't as familiar with the meds. I have seen different views on this by different psychiatrists. There are books on the subject. Most psychiatrists and virtually all general docs are pretty clueless about it.

I went happily to my psychiatrist thinking my Cymbalta (60mg) might be pooping out. I certainly wasn't having any major issues with anxiety or depression ON Cymbalta (loved it- been on 5 1/2 yrs for a depression episode in 2008). Worked great.

There are lots of different kinds of anti-depressants. None of them are exactly the same as each other, but they fall into different categories. Prozac is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Cymbalta is a norephrine reuptake inhibitor, which is a VERY similar group, but it acts on adrenaline as well as serotonin, and is therefore stronger and has stronger side effects. I've been on both kinds, and found them both fine, except that the SSRI didn't work for me.

I'm not familar with cymbalta but if it's anything like prozac then yes it could very well be causing your palpitations. When I quit taking prozac I got them more frequently. If its causing you to be uncomfortable you should go to the doc.

Hello Dusty, Thank You for your Response, Actually I am On Savella Over a Month. (My Primary Dr Gave me Savella). Let's Start with the Prozac First. shrink gave me Prozac 10 mg..I didn't take them because my Mother was Ailing from Alzimiers/Parkisin We lost her Last Tues, I didn't want to take the Prozac I needed to take care of my Mom & I wanted to Feel..Not be numb when my Mom's time comes..I'm afraid to mix also....any meds...

I took Prozac many many years ago and actually it did work well for me. So hopefully this will be the one for you.

Sorry I have to ask what does help with the depression? My doc. put me on PRozac. Does it help. This is the first day of it. I know you have to be on it for a while before you can see any results. Mine is a low dose 20mg. Now here is a question for anyone who knows the answer. When you take pain med. it helps control the pain and gives you energy. You stop them, and your whole mind and body goes to **#$. Why does your immune system go haywire?

This is ridiculous! Will she gain on prozac also? What is wrong with these psychiatrists, anyway? It makes me sooooo angry!

Hey there sweetie...I don't have any personal experiences with Cymbalta...and just remember everyone's stories will be different, unique. How did you and your doc decide on Cymbalta? How long has it been since you've taken Prozac? A lot of times...if you've been off a med for a while after you've developed a tolerance....you can go back on with success again. I would think it would be worth a try, no?

I am also on Cymbalta but want to get off of that and get put on a medication that helps more for OCD. I was on Prozac for 11 years and it was great at first, but I felt it pooped out after all of those years. Hope this helps.

I have to switch my meds. I have depression and fibromyalgia and am on Cymbalta, but it doesn't seem to be helping me.....my doctor suggested Prozac since it is known to help fatigue better than the other antidepressants (supposedly). Thank you.
