Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta weight

cymbalta

Avatar f tn Is weight gain the norm for Cymbalta? I excercise regularly, watch my diet and still am not able to loose anything. It is very frustrating. I am on thyroid, but have it checked regularly, am a breast cancer survivor, take fosamax, and prescription Vit. D. Could any of that be associated with being unable to loose weight?
Avatar f tn I took Cymbalta for two years and I found it to be weight neutral - no weight gain. Your weight problems are more likely because of your thyroid than Cymbalta.
Avatar m tn Yes, I am gaining weight on Cymbalta and dont understand either. I am waiting to see what the dr. replies. I exercise 5 days a week for an hour and a half and havent lost an ounce.
Avatar n tn I have heard rumors that so many anti-anxiety/anti-depressenants can do that.. but i also heard cymbalta usually does not cause weight gain. Did anyone have an experience where they still where able to lose weight on cymbalta? I dont understand why not, considering if you decrease your daily calorie intake and exercise the weight should technically be able to come off. I really hope this is this case because i am so dedicated to losing these few extra pounds haha.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Cymbalta and Xanax at the same time for more than a year. In fact, I lost almost 30 lbs. Don't think negative. I think it depends. Some gain and sone lose weight...not sure why... Thanks!
Avatar f tn i have not had any weight gain. Some meds can make you gain weight. Though I think meds act differently on different people. So probably the only way to figure out if it will work for you is to try it out for 6 weeks. That's what my doctor told me to do. Warning about it though... at higher doses, it can make you feel kind of foggy and loopy. Well, some people it can. So the dosage level varies by person as well.
Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me what kind of side affects they have experienced with cymbalta?
Avatar f tn I have yet seen any horrible side effects, I have gained weight but that is more than likely due to the lithium I take. Cymbalta is expensive, and a lot of insurance companies won't cover it, so make sure to call your insurance company to see how much of it they will cover.
Avatar f tn Weight gain is one potential side effect of Cymbalta but it would also depend on your other medications and if they have this side effect as well. It would be worthwhile to speak to your psychiatrist about this and they could see how to adjust and/or change your medications as needed and also how this specific side effect could be addressed.
Avatar f tn I was put on Cymbalta 30mg for a week then upgraded to 60mg after that about 3 weeks ago for my extream anxiety and depression. I have drop at least 10+ lbs due to not having a normal appetite. I'm a bit over weight so it's definitely making me feel better that I've lost the weight. I'm just worried that it isn't healthy at all. Is this a normal effect of Cymbalta? Should I be worried? Should I contact my doctor? Thank you in advance!
1756969 tn?1332437163 the eating disorder is under control but i have a huge fear of any medication that will cause weight gain and an increased appetite. any suggestions?? i heard cymbalta is good! help!
Avatar n tn I have gained alot of weight taking cymbalta. Is there any way to lose weight while on this medication. I exercise daily and watch what I eat but it has not helped.
Avatar f tn I was on Cymbalta for several (approx. 6-7) months about 2 yrs ago. I never had any weight gain but also never found any pain relief. Like any AD, Cymbalta was tough to come off of....because it is an SSNRI, I found it to be more difficult. However, because it was a capsule with the little "balls" in it, it was easy to taper down as I was instructed to open the capsules and remove "x" amount of "balls" each day by my doctor.
Avatar f tn The paroxitine is an SSRI and the weight gain can be a side effect. I just looked on the web for a statistic and it said about 25 percent of people experience weight gain. As with any medication, it should never be stopped suddenly. These medications need to be tapered down slowly so that you don't experience side effects. The best thing to do is to talk to your doctor as soon as you can and tell him/her that you have stopped taking it.
Avatar f tn m so sick of feeling like a lab rat! I also worry about weight gain...I am already aware that people say Lyrica causes weight gain which of course I know if the med works it will be one of those things where you choose alleviation from pain vs weight gain. Hope all of you are having a somewhat pain free day...I hope to say the same for myself in the future!
Avatar n tn Yes it is true that Cymbalta helps with pain, it is often used to help people coming off strong painkillers, I don't know the full details though. It sounds like you have been prescribed the anti depressants to help with the anxiety, as they treat both.
Avatar n tn I sometimes think doctors don't tell you the real percentage of weight gain with a drug. I was on cipralex for years and it didn't matter how much I worked out, weight loss was minimal. On a high carb diet and no excercise, I gained 40 or so lbs. Everytime I go off of cipralex I lose weight. I don't care what they say, cipralex causes weight gain. I was on mirtzapanine for a short while and I felt happy for once but together with the cipralex the 30 lbs came back within a month!
Avatar f tn I suffer from OCD and have tried numerous serotonin meds, all of which I have had extreme side effects. My doctor put me on Cymbalta, but I have notices increased weight gain. I recently lost quite a bit of weight and no have put back on 15 lbs. She has suggested I try Luvox, but don't know if I should or not. I worked so hard to lose this weight and don't want to gain any more. I am at a loss of what decision to make.
Avatar f tn Just wonder if Cymbalta causes weight gain and what are the effects of tapering off?
Avatar n tn I had a baby then didnt eat for about a month so lost all of the pregnancy weight and was back to my normal weight and now I am two stone heavier than when I fell pregnant. Just constantly hungry all of the time with the meds. Haven't suffered from constipation so I guess that I have to be thankful for something!
Avatar m tn Anybody taking cymbalta? I just started Monday. I hope it helps. I have been having major pressure in my head, almost like sinus problems. Also, my left dull ache is back! Hard to stay focuses and I feel like I am in a dream majority of the time.
1698850 tn?1306868719 Wow maybe you have to dicuss this with your doctor I was told today by my psychiatrist that there are many different medications in the same family we just have to find the right one. Weight gain is a common side effect, Ive also heard that when you are on medication it is hard to lose weight. Well good luck.
