Cymbalta vs lexapro side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta vs lexapro side effects

Avatar f tn I was on Cymbalta for 5 years and it just stopped working. I like my Cymbalta and had very little side effects with it for many years but all of a sudden I started getting headaches and anxiety, sleeping all day and missing days at a time from work. They have switched me to Cypralex now and I am quite concerned it won't do as much for me. It has only been a few days so I cannot determine the effects quite yet, except that I have the shakes really bad.
Avatar f tn I' m on cymbalta and i think its very good! Gives a lot of energy and i can stand the litle side effects i have, like increased sweating, and litle jaw tremor which is reducing by time. Another side effect i have is delayed ejacuation, but i enoy that.
656243 tn?1231291652 She thought that adding Cymbalta would help with my GAD. I have taken Effexor in the past and hated it. Has anyone taken Cymbalta and were there side effects? Posative effects? I am looking at a months worth of free samples and am a bit weary of taking them. She did say the side effects were quite minimal. thanks guys C.
Avatar f tn Both of these are two of the most difficult meds out there, especially when you want to stop taking them. I'd go with ssris first since snris can be very stimulating, or tricyclics, or just try therapy and see if you can do it that way. I don't think either of these will give you tremors, that's usually the mood disorder drugs, but side effects are peculiar to the individual, they don't necessarily go along with the med. What's easy for one is hard for another.
1128643 tn?1262487249 Anyway, i strongly recommend you switch to Cymbalta since it will gives you energy and it will alleviate your pain. The only side effect i had from Cymbalta was some muscle jerkings and nausea for the first 1 week. What your doctor will probably do is cut down the Celexa completely and give you 60mg Cymbalta after your first week on Cymbalta. 60mg will be your regular dose, 30mg is the starting dose.
Avatar n tn I had an opposite effect as you. Though I took the Wellbutrin to quit smoking, I didn't really have any anxiety side effects...I started taking Lexapro for depression and within a month I started having panic attacks. My doctor told me to increase my dose, which I did, and then I started having panic attacks 2-3 times a week. I didn't think the Lexapro was the cause so I continued taking it until I found out I was pregnant.
1298907 tn?1272890088 It didn't take long for my PCP to discontinue the Cymbalta. It did not cause vertigo, headache or any of the usual side effects I get from most meds. The feelings never returned to even close to the severe degree that they were at when the Cymbalta was prescribed. So in that respect it must have helped. I can't say that I will never take it again....but I would have to be desperate. So that was my experience...but remember I do not tolerate most drugs.
Avatar f tn I have been on Lexapro for a while, but due to some side effects I am switching. I am exhausted on Lexapro. I cannot get through the day without needing a nap. I can barley keep my eyes open through the day. This is unlike me. I also am having slight nausea. It's also not helping me as much as I'd like for anxiety, although it has been great for my depression. My doc wanted to switch me to Prozac. I was told I wouldn't be as tired on Prozac and that it might help me better with anxiety.
Avatar m tn Most of the drugs in that category do increase the odds of weight gain, but it's because you have more urges to eat not the drug just inceases your weight.. Here is the list I found on what works the best vs. the most tolerated drugs - not necessarily better drugs. It was printed in The Lancet, one of the most respected medical journals.
Avatar n tn They can have very different outcomes, and both can have side effects. Lexapro was originally advertised as having fewer side effects, but in use that is debatable. All ssris are used for anxiety and depression; though they don't work exactly the same, they all result in serotonin being bathed longer instead of broken down, as is natural with used serotonin.
737515 tn?1252556023 Which medications used to treat anxiety have the least chance of causing weight gain as a side effect? More importantly what medication has the least reported side effects. The idea of having side effects from medicine makes me want to stop them completely. I have taken Zoloft to have nothing but bad side effects and now Im on Sinequan now but I have read weight gain is a side effect of it :( Anyone with any help would be great.
317787 tn?1473362051 They both seem very knowledgeable about managing the psychological side effects with antidepressants and take these side effects very seriously. They have both expressed to my husband and to me that they would rather manage these side effects rather than have a patient have to discontinue therapy or let these side effects become really scary. Can you ask for a referral to a psychiatrist to help coordinate with your hepatologist regarding anxiety/depression?
Avatar n tn She was like a guinea pig and now, 8 years after, she is living with side effects that have never gone : hypotension (around 8), fainding every day, unbearable headaches, kidney pyelonephritis every months, and an exhausting fatigue that keep her in her bed sometimes several days, where she can hardly eat alone. Before that, she was so full of life, making car races, flying planes, being a model for photographes, and photographer herself.
881463 tn?1245349249 Do any SSRI help with pain reduction? How is Zoloft, Lexapro, Prozac, Celexa vs Cymbalta in these regards? I am so confused with all tyhe med choices. I have picked up the Cymbalta at 1 tab 60 mg a day, but I want to make sure I should be on an snri as opposed to ssri prior to starting one. Is Cymbalta 60 mg dose safe to start? I have had some extensive tests to try & find a physical cause of my mid-back & chest pain/tight breathing sensations.
Avatar f tn Granted, we are all different, but with that being said, I had virtually no side effects from Lexapro. Celexa is very close in chemical makeup, but that one didn't work well for me for my anxiety. I know it does for others, with minimal side effects, so it may be a good choice.
Avatar m tn Can I react differently to the Celexa than the Lexapro? Is it possible that with the Celexa I will have less side-effects since it's a more dirty version of the Lexapro it's suppose to have more side-effects no? Also, the only one SSRI who work in the past for my panic disorder is the Paxil... but hte Paxil do nothing for the social anxiety, like all the antidepressant meds I try...
Avatar n tn I just tried Wellbutrin because I read that it had fewer side effects than others and may help lose weight (and I had just tried Cymbalta and Effexor and didn't like the side effects)...I was a little hesitant to try Wellbutrin since I had success with Prozac in the past, which works on Serotonin (like Zoloft) and Wellbutrin works on Dopamine (a completely different drug)...
341953 tn?1209485491 The problem with the SSRI's is that you will probably have to try a few until you find one that works for you. I tried Lexapro, Paxil, and Cymbalta before I found the Prozac. The other thing about the SSRI's is that they take about a month to start working. I just go back on my Prozac and it is really helping me to stay on track and not go back to abusing pain killers. Most people that abuse opiates have a problem with anxiety, depression, or some other psychological disorder.
Avatar n tn Who cares if you are addicted if it helps you? People with high blood pressure are 'addicted' to their meds too but are we going to take their meds away - NO! There is no shame in responsibly taking a medicine that helps you and from the sounds of it - the quantity you are taking is minimal in comparison with what a lot of people take. I hardly call what you are taking unreasonable.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist is weening me off the Lexapro and is giving me Topamax which should induce weight-loss and also lessen the side effects of going off the Lexapro. Unfortunately, there is a lot of side effects of Topomax as well but weight gain is not one of them and need to loose the weight now !!!!
881463 tn?1245349249 Hi Dr. Junig, I have a few pending questions in this post and need to ask another about the Cymbalta I just started, as I am already developing some side effects. On/off Tingling/ mild electrical type feelings in my limbs and back of the head, very tired, bad headache & some mild nausea. I have also felt extra panicky and cry/get sad more easily. I started 3 days at 30 mg and Sunday moved to 60mg. I am worried about this medication & it's early side effects thus far.
Avatar f tn Have suffered with Anxiety and Depression for the last 4 years, in that time I have been on Lexapro,Effexor and Cymbalta. About 8weeks ago Idecided to taper off Cymbalta as have felt that the medication seems to worsen my symptoms as well as making me extremely tired - I could sleep up to 16hrs a day which is not good with 2 young children.
Avatar f tn The problem is medication - I'm hugely sensitive to drugs and virtually every SSRI or SSNRI I've tried - Cymbalta, LexaPro, and now Zoloft - really exacerbates the anxiety. The psychiatrist affiliated with the program has been wonderful and understanding, and prescribed .5 mg of Xanax four times a day to address the anxiety. I'm still anxious and fearful, but also incredibly fatigued, sleeping a great deal, and - here's the worst part - have had severe diarrhea for 3 weeks.
347630 tn?1196374698 Lexapro on the other hand is making me feel sick. I experience all of the side effects. I tried to research about these meds and I know that Lexapro mechanism of action is based on SSR but I am not quite sure what lamictal does. Some meds affect the serotonin levels, other the dopamine and glutamate. I just watched a video about bipolar and there was an interesting aspect on Sedating GABAergic vs Activating/Antiglutamatergic meds.
Avatar n tn He called me in buspar and cymbalta (which i had never heard of but have learned its supposedly the only antidepressant with no weight gain side effects?) soooooooooo......headaches still an issue........neuro puts me on topomax yesterday and tells me to wean off the buspar i dont need both that and cymbalta and shouldnt need the maxzide anymore either.

Avatar n tn The only thing that has changed is I have been taking antidepressants. First I took Lexapro then Cymbalta and now Zoloft. My doctor keeps changing my meds because of the weight gain and every change only makes it worse. This latest change has caused me to gain about a pound a day. Since Thursday I have gained three more pounds and have been eating next to nothing. I finally convinced my doctor that I am not pigging out all day and she ha ordered a thyroid test.
Avatar f tn It's a lot of medication you are taking and some new meds can do wonders at treating both anxiety and depression like the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor ( SSRI like Cymbalta and Lexapro ) But well if you GP think you need such heavy medication i respect his choice since i don't know you and your condition but you're taking a lot... And as for the Abilify i don't sugest you change that since you might have a schizophrenia and or bi-polar disorder...
Avatar n tn The sexual side effects make SSRI's look like Viagra. The side effects are horrible. The alternative for me? Probably death because I no longer respond to more accepted antidepressants. When and if I must stop Protriptilyne I hear that the withdrawl makes Effexor look like a sugar pill in terms of severity. Is it a viable trade off for me? Well, yes it is because I do want to live my life free of constant torment. I will take the withdrawl when that time comes and pay the piper.
Avatar n tn When I did start xanax it really worked wonders for my anxiety, stress and panic attacks, but it comes with the price of addiction and if not properly tapered you risk having siezures which can potentially have devastating effects. I eventually after 2 1/2 yrs of use, started on Xanax XR 2mgs daily vs. the 4mgs of regular xanax that I was taking, it made a huge difference in eliminating all the bad side effects that I started having.
