Cymbalta vs lexapro for anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta vs lexapro for anxiety

Avatar f tn I'm wondering if anybody has had experience in taking Cymbalta for anxiety and depression. I took Lexapro for several years and it stopped working, so I tried Zoloft this summer, which didn't help my anxiety at all, so now I'm back on the Lexapro and Buspar. I feel better than I did a few months ago in terms of anxiety, but nowhere near as well as I did in the past, and now my depression is horrible. I barely get out of bed most days because I just don't seem to care about anything anymore.
Avatar f tn My best friend is on cymbalta for depression and it has done wonders for her. Me on the other hand tried it and felt like I was having a heart attack. I am on Prozac and it helps a lot with my withdrawal symptoms especially since I have GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). I just stopped taking the medicine and never had any withdrawals. I would go see a doctor about your problem and not take anymore of your sister's medication. I wish you the best of luck.
Avatar f tn What's easy for one is hard for another. But again, these two are difficult meds, and Cymbalta is more for depression than anxiety, but you do have both. You can do a lot of research on your own if you choose to by just googling them, but that still won't tell you what your experience will be. By reputation, the easiest to tolerate are Prozac and Lexapro. Good luck.
12714324 tn?1426851987 I agree, 40mg of Lexapro is high, but I haven't heard of any significant liver issues with ssris but when Cymbalta, an snri, applied to FDA for approval for pain control they discovered a lot of liver issues. You might bring this up with your doc.
Avatar n tn Please remember that no two people are alike. Although lexapro and wellbutrin both are indicated for anxiety, there are other options that you may want to consider. A benzo (like xanax, ativan, klonopin) can help you in the short-term while you sort things out and develop some different coping skills. Buspar may be an option for you as well, I have had very good luck when I prescribe it as long as it is started low and tapered up slowly or as tolerated.
1298907 tn?1272890088 Whether it was prescribed for depression/anxiety issues or for nerve pain I'm really interested in knowing how well people are experiencing actual results from it as far as pain relief is concerned & also how well it works for depression as compared to some of the other common anti-depressants such as zoloft, prozac, lexapro. I've tried all 3 of these, liked Lexapro the best.
Avatar n tn I take valleum, buspar and cymbalta for anxiety. My opiate dose is down by a 2/3s. for 2 weeks now. The last 4 days my anxiety is so bad I don't know what to do? I know you had said your on anti-anxiety meds. do you mind sharing with me what they are and how well do they help.
Avatar f tn I was told I wouldn't be as tired on Prozac and that it might help me better with anxiety. I chose against it. I asked for Paxil. I have read that Paxil is good for anxiety. My doc was willing to let me try Paxil so I left with a script for Paxil. I wonder if I should've tried the Prozac. I had a doc tell me once that Paxil causes significant weight gain. Should I have tried Prozac? I don't want to gain a bunch of weight or stay tired all day long.
Avatar n tn is paxil also recommended for anxiety? i have been on lexapro 10mg for about a month and my anxiety has definitely been helped =] but as for the p e i don't notice that much inprovement but im also not to worried about that because im also working out my pc muscle (kegels) but again the price for lexapro is simply ridiculous. would you guys recommend me to get on a cheaper medication for anxiety?
Avatar f tn Celexa is very close in chemical makeup, but that one didn't work well for me for my anxiety. I know it does for others, with minimal side effects, so it may be a good choice.
Avatar m tn I really need to start again a SSRI for my extreme panic disorder and I want to know if the Celexa will work to stop the panic disorder, since I took it for my social phobia at 60 mg/day back in 1999 for 6 months and it did nothing for the social anxiety and my anxiety level didn't improve on it? I ask that question cause last year I wanted to try again the Lexxapro, who is the improve Celexa and I had strong side-effects on it, wasn't able to tolerate a little dose of 2.
341953 tn?1209485491 The problem with the SSRI's is that you will probably have to try a few until you find one that works for you. I tried Lexapro, Paxil, and Cymbalta before I found the Prozac. The other thing about the SSRI's is that they take about a month to start working. I just go back on my Prozac and it is really helping me to stay on track and not go back to abusing pain killers. Most people that abuse opiates have a problem with anxiety, depression, or some other psychological disorder.
Avatar n tn The doctor insists that I must stay on antidepressants for the rest of my life. I gained 40 pounds while taking Zoloft and yet I can't cope without some sort of medication nor can I cope with this weight gain. I have always prided myself in looking nice. I have just switched to Wellbutrin XL because I heard it doesn't cause that weight gain that Zoloft does... Can someone pleae tell me if they have gone through this and what I should expect?
Avatar n tn The reason I'm switching to Klonipin is that I feel that Xanax XR is not working well anymore for me. I take Effexor XR for depression and anxiety, and I also take Lyrica for headaches and anxiety as well. So, you can see, I'm a mess as far as anxiety issues go! Can you shed some light on Xanax XR vs plain old Xanax? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn You bring up an interesting topic for sure.... I'll try to shed a little bit of light on the topic if possible. First, there are (as most of you already know) SEVERAL different kinds of SSRI's...and while they all basically end up doing the same thing...they all achieve that result (allowing more serotonin to be available for our brains) different ways, chemically. Therefore, CERTAIN SSRI's are more optimal for different diagnoses.
Avatar n tn I've weaned off and now completely stopped Lexapro for 5 days. Yeah, I'm secretly hoping for the weight to drop off but I highly doubt that. What a huge drag! I conquered an extra 30 pounds about 4 years ago and was really proud that I had a fit pregnancy and only gained about 33 pounds. I thought my weight issues were behind me but no such luck. I am comforted by the fact that my daughter and I are both happy and healthy. Good luck to all!
Avatar n tn The use of opiates / opioids for anxiety and depression has been suggested by many doctors and psychiatrists for decades. As a matter of fact, my mother's psychiatrist offered her Lortab(hydrocodone/APAP) for her anxiety, but she didn't want them because they upset her stomach. Ask your doctor and / or psychiatrist if they can subscribe some kind of opiate. It can't hurt to ask because SOME psychiatrists have already begun subscribing narcotic pain meds for anxiety.
Avatar n tn told me taking Ambien 3-4 days a week is how it should be done. They help. I have tried Xanax for anxiety and it didn't work. I hear ativan is good, but a different type of drug. It puts me out for hours. If I am so shakey and haven't slept that would be a good idea. I may get some for those occaisons. I take Prozac for depression, but it does nothing for any other sx, like riba rage, sleep, etc. It is amazing how my drawer of pills grew once on tx.
881463 tn?1245349249 your advice on Cymbalta. I think I am inclined to proceed with Cymbalta for 2 months. I was curious however about your thoughts of Lexapro, as I read it does not promote weight gain and seems to be well tolerated. Pristiq I read about but it is not available in Canada as of yet. I will finally let go of the cancer fears based on what you and my doctor have said and of course the numerous tests I have had.e.
881463 tn?1245349249 The classic danger signs for cord compression would be incontinence, weakness in the legs, and maybe some sensory loss below the involved level-- similar to a spinal injury at the same level. I think cymbalta is a good place to start-- for the anxiety as much as for the pain. Hopefully you will wake some morning and the pain will be gone-- that would not be real unusual.
Avatar f tn The problem is medication - I'm hugely sensitive to drugs and virtually every SSRI or SSNRI I've tried - Cymbalta, LexaPro, and now Zoloft - really exacerbates the anxiety. The psychiatrist affiliated with the program has been wonderful and understanding, and prescribed .5 mg of Xanax four times a day to address the anxiety. I'm still anxious and fearful, but also incredibly fatigued, sleeping a great deal, and - here's the worst part - have had severe diarrhea for 3 weeks.
Avatar f tn I almost failed out of a top 10 college and my life was miserable. I went through an intensive therapy for health anxiety and got better for a while but now I'm getting bad again. I am starting to think and worry about my heart 24/7 and I have massive, horrible headaches, too (probably from the stress and worry). I have been offered every medication under the sun by too many psychiatrists to count, but I am scared of taking anything but a beta blocker and Xanax. What can I do?
Avatar f tn Have suffered with Anxiety and Depression for the last 4 years, in that time I have been on Lexapro,Effexor and Cymbalta. About 8weeks ago Idecided to taper off Cymbalta as have felt that the medication seems to worsen my symptoms as well as making me extremely tired - I could sleep up to 16hrs a day which is not good with 2 young children.
Avatar n tn prescribing phentermine (i lost 20 lbs on it last year for three months) and lexapro for depression/anxiety. After realizing it wasnt a good combination (something about the phentermine intensifying the effect of the SSRI) i asked him to change to buspar. He called in buspar and cymbalta...headaches still an issue..neuro puts me on topomax weans off the buspar says i dont need that and cymbalta and shouldnt need the maxzide anymore either.
347630 tn?1196374698 I have been recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and anxiety and put on Lamictal and Lexapro. I think lamictal works really good for me. I feel calm and able to concentrate. Lexapro on the other hand is making me feel sick. I experience all of the side effects. I tried to research about these meds and I know that Lexapro mechanism of action is based on SSR but I am not quite sure what lamictal does. Some meds affect the serotonin levels, other the dopamine and glutamate.
Avatar n tn prescribing phentermine (i lost 20 lbs on it last year for three months) and lexapro for depression. After realizing it wasnt a good combination (something about the phentermine intensifying the effect of the SSRI) i asked him to change the anti depressant to buspar. He called me in buspar and cymbalta (which i had never heard of but have learned its supposedly the only antidepressant with no weight gain side effects?) soooooooooo......headaches still an issue........
522415 tn?1242941355 I do not know how it is for others, but for me I have never been able to get a Docter to give me more meds for my pain. I only take my cymbolta and busepar and balacet. And sometimes I feel as if im going mad. But my doc wont help me. So i go to the emergency room and they always help me.
Avatar f tn Yeah i know cymbalta isnt a SSRI its jus that use both word so often that when im typin fast i might confuse them, you are right and it's a SNRIS ( serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor ) sorry for the confusion it may have lead to. But thanks for corecting me it's really important to me to be always right when talking about meds.

Avatar n tn The only thing that has changed is I have been taking antidepressants. First I took Lexapro then Cymbalta and now Zoloft. My doctor keeps changing my meds because of the weight gain and every change only makes it worse. This latest change has caused me to gain about a pound a day. Since Thursday I have gained three more pounds and have been eating next to nothing. I finally convinced my doctor that I am not pigging out all day and she ha ordered a thyroid test.
