Cymbalta vs lexapro drug

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta vs lexapro drug

cymbalta

Avatar f tn Cymbalta 3 yrs ago I went thru treatment for opiate withdrawal after many years of self prescribed pain relief. I had to wait 24hrs and then I was put on suboxone for withdrawal and drug cravings and Cymbalta for pain management and depression. (I have been on antidepressants for 30yrs.) Anyway, this combination has been a miracle for me as my pain has been completely manageable with OTC if needed, have had no urge to use, nor any depression issues.
Avatar n tn w/ wellbutrin--just a little FYI-it is a major drug-i read that dopamine in it is much same as the chemicals in the major drug cocaine--not that Wellbutrin is bad i do not want to scare you but it is a major major big time drug) Well, i just got on this forum today because of Lexapro. As i said i tapered off Wellbutrin 2 weeks ago and then Lexapro slowly and off fully last week.
Avatar m tn Most of the drugs in that category do increase the odds of weight gain, but it's because you have more urges to eat not the drug just inceases your weight.. Here is the list I found on what works the best vs. the most tolerated drugs - not necessarily better drugs. It was printed in The Lancet, one of the most respected medical journals.
Avatar f tn What about Celexa? Lexapro was created as basically a drug similar to Celexa that is supposed to be easier to tolerate, but some find they tolerate Celexa better. If you saw results with the Lexapro, but the fatigue was bad, perhaps Celexa may be a good alternative. Just a suggestion. I would try that or the Prozac before the Paxil, just my opinion.
Avatar n tn You must know that there are not only Lexapro and Celexa in the world and an other class of drug is avaible called the SNRI ( Effexor, Cymbalta ) but i think if you want something cheap Cymbalta is not a good choice hehe. You might also want to know that there are several natural anti-anxiety remedies and supplements available that are proven to be helpful.
Avatar n tn you said you were on valium, buspar, and cymbalta. You also said they were opiates. Valium is an anti-anxiety drug, cymbalta is an anti-depressant, sometimes used for anxiety but only extremely mild since it's not meant for the purpose of calming anxiety. You better get to your dr. fast if you think the meds you listed are what you think they are.
Avatar f tn I chose Lexapro since Viibryd is a new drug and I was unsure about it. My concern is insurance doesn't cover Lexapro. I hope they are able to make it go through. He also gave me a script for Valium. I was shocked he didn't give Ativan or Klonopin or something along those lines. Is Valium good? He said if insurance doesn't cover the Lexapro then I could try Vivbryd, a new med, but I don't like that idea.
Avatar n tn I just tried Wellbutrin because I read that it had fewer side effects than others and may help lose weight (and I had just tried Cymbalta and Effexor and didn't like the side effects)...I was a little hesitant to try Wellbutrin since I had success with Prozac in the past, which works on Serotonin (like Zoloft) and Wellbutrin works on Dopamine (a completely different drug)...
341953 tn?1209485491 The problem with the SSRI's is that you will probably have to try a few until you find one that works for you. I tried Lexapro, Paxil, and Cymbalta before I found the Prozac. The other thing about the SSRI's is that they take about a month to start working. I just go back on my Prozac and it is really helping me to stay on track and not go back to abusing pain killers. Most people that abuse opiates have a problem with anxiety, depression, or some other psychological disorder.
Avatar n tn Watch what you say about klonopin...you'll start being called a "benzo basher"!!! You see a drug that eventually makes your original symptoms WORSE is a relly great drug, according to some people.
Avatar f tn I have also gone down the long road of antidepressants trying to find something to help my GAD and panic. I was on paxil for years as well as lexapro, prozac, cymbalta and a host of others - have also been in CBT for a long time too. All for panic or GAD. Spent so many years trying one after another. Stayed on the paxil which just seemed to increase my anxiety and caused the development of a major tremor. 30 years ago was tried on valium and it worked for the GAD, but not the panic.
Avatar n tn Can anyone give me an idea of how long it usually takes for your metabolism to recalibrate after stopping Effexor and/or Lexapro? I've gained significant weight while on these drugs (despite an intense exercise program and careful diet). My nutritionist and MD told me that the drugs likely altered my metabolism, but no one can tell me how long it will take to correct that. Most frustrating, I've noticed that since I stopped taking both, my weight gain has accelerated.

881463 tn?1245349249 your advice on Cymbalta. I think I am inclined to proceed with Cymbalta for 2 months. I was curious however about your thoughts of Lexapro, as I read it does not promote weight gain and seems to be well tolerated. Pristiq I read about but it is not available in Canada as of yet. I will finally let go of the cancer fears based on what you and my doctor have said and of course the numerous tests I have had.e.
Avatar f tn The problem is medication - I'm hugely sensitive to drugs and virtually every SSRI or SSNRI I've tried - Cymbalta, LexaPro, and now Zoloft - really exacerbates the anxiety. The psychiatrist affiliated with the program has been wonderful and understanding, and prescribed .5 mg of Xanax four times a day to address the anxiety. I'm still anxious and fearful, but also incredibly fatigued, sleeping a great deal, and - here's the worst part - have had severe diarrhea for 3 weeks.
347630 tn?1196374698 I have been recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and anxiety and put on Lamictal and Lexapro. I think lamictal works really good for me. I feel calm and able to concentrate. Lexapro on the other hand is making me feel sick. I experience all of the side effects. I tried to research about these meds and I know that Lexapro mechanism of action is based on SSR but I am not quite sure what lamictal does. Some meds affect the serotonin levels, other the dopamine and glutamate.
Avatar n tn html hopefully that will help you - but it's still best to talk to your doctor - or even the pharmacist at your drug store. i find that sometimes they are better at catching drug interactions than my doctors are.
Avatar n tn My weight loss was due to the drug and then was due to severe diarrhea from taking the drug at the full 100mg dosage. If you are prone to having a "bad stomach" you might not be able to take a full 100mg of Topomax. 50mg helps me with the headaches that aren't menstrual, but unfortunately I still get those, just not as bad so I continue to take the Topomax. Just be careful, you must wean off Topomax if for any reason you decide to stop taking it- talk to your doctor!
Avatar f tn It's a lot of medication you are taking and some new meds can do wonders at treating both anxiety and depression like the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor ( SSRI like Cymbalta and Lexapro ) But well if you GP think you need such heavy medication i respect his choice since i don't know you and your condition but you're taking a lot... And as for the Abilify i don't sugest you change that since you might have a schizophrenia and or bi-polar disorder...
Avatar n tn The only thing that has changed is I have been taking antidepressants. First I took Lexapro then Cymbalta and now Zoloft. My doctor keeps changing my meds because of the weight gain and every change only makes it worse. This latest change has caused me to gain about a pound a day. Since Thursday I have gained three more pounds and have been eating next to nothing. I finally convinced my doctor that I am not pigging out all day and she ha ordered a thyroid test.
Avatar n tn mg plus has put me on lexapro 10mg now 20mg. i have spinal problem pain factor so he put me on oxyecoton, said dont stay on them more than 3 days there addicted. i did this once . next time i seen my doctor i advised him im not taken oxyecoton ,they diddnt help with pain plus im having enough problems with xanax and i dont want to get addicted to oxyecoton. i am dertimed but yes its hard i was up to 8 to 10 tablets a day 1mg back to around 5 .
Avatar n tn There really is nothing that needs being done about it. It's no secret that SNRI drugs such as Effexor, Pristiq, and Cymbalta do have a higher risk of what is called Discontinuation Syndrome. SSRI's can also be nasty buggers to discontinue. Paxil being one of many. I hear a lot of people complain about antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome, but I never hear then speak of the flip side. I used to take Effexor XR at 300Mgs a day for about 4 years.
4149717 tn?1389507161 zoloft, lexapro, cymbalta and prozac.....maybe more in there, haha, but my brain is not "firing" correctly STILL. Many good points above.....if you weren't depressed B4 your opiate abuse, then my opinion is this current depression you are dealing with could be directly related to "normalizing overactive pain pathways" and the inevitable depression that can accompany our healing process. I found that the depression lessened as the healing process continues.
737515 tn?1252556023 So different drugs may work better for you vs for me. It's a trial and error. I like Lexapro, it's supposed to be one of the easier SSRI's. =) Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn I am in the mental health profession, and I find that Lexapro is an overall useless drug in most people. It definitely works for a while, but not in the long-term. Plus, it can cause weight gain. My biggest gripe with this heart condition is that everyone's answer to everything is EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE! Yet, when we do....it can send us into orbit. Then, if you are like me, when my heart rate increases, I sometimes freak out with anxiety, making it worse. Any ideas about anything?????
Avatar m tn I also had tried 3 months on Cymbalta and it did little for me too. What other meds besides Welbutrin, Lexapro and Cymbalta have you tried?
1010076 tn?1250707651 Brand name vs. generic----- as long as it works, I'd be happy. The problem with a drug like valium is that it isn't a great choice for long term use. It can cause problems in and of itself as it is a controlled substance for a reason. People also inadvertently hurt themselves on it as well. While the psych should not have rushed to any judgement, he may have been afraid that with you in college that you might have some drinks with it or something . . .
Avatar m tn I'm already on Lexapro and Zanax so depression was not an issue for me. Just remember everyone is different when it comes to depression and sleep. I have been sleeping 8 hrs every night since stopping those stupid Vicodin, I used to only sleep maybe 4 hrs before. I do get headaches but not everyday. Never had them before. My pain level is down and my energy is almost 100%. Just don't try to over do it, take one day at a time.
242516 tn?1368227505 Some researchers disagree with this kind of process, saying that it's very difficult to control for confounding factors in the separate data sets, calling into question the validity of the results. I'm expecting the drug companies to be fighting these studies powerfully, and be curious to see how they try to disprove the results.
