An NSAID, aleve, was what did so much damage to my liver. Had to treat the hep c because I was out of options to save the liver. Now I know I'm going to have a life. Do an internet search of the drugs in question. Your individual sensitivity to a toxin is an unknown (and hep c makes your liver work less well so damage is greater). Research beyong the manufacturer's label. You will rarely find liver damage from the drug listed even in the rare side effects section of the label.

I also take a lot of Oxycontin, Oxycodone, and etc. I would recommend that if you want to try Cymbalta, just have your liver enzymes checked before dosing, after three months, then check it as you wish. The anti-depression action does take about a month to kick in, so why take a potential health hazard and wait a month to see if it helps. The commercials warn about liver problems, just listen to the them. I'm switching to another drug that works and is safer next week.

While we should always try to take the minimum of meds because of our liver damage - you have to remember we live in a real world and we gotta do what we gotta do. Hopefully the doctor is smart enough to give you medications that are metabolized in the kidneys instead of the liver and so your liver isn't being put under additional strain. You can always ask them to double check on that.

I was taught in nursing school that cymbalta was possibly going to soon have a black box warning due to liver implications. Had a girlfriend who it helped. I'd becareful ask the doc and have LFT's(liver function tests) done.

I was on percocet lyrica and cymbalta. Once the nerve damage got better I stopped the lyrica and cymbalta. After going back to work after surgery, I was afraid of taking percocet (im a teacher) so the dr gave me tramadol. 2 weeks ago I had steroidal injections in my pelvis and asked for something stronger because the tramadol wasnt working. I only take the vicodin at night, but it doesnt get rid of the pain.

For the pain, he gave me Cymbalta. My sister said he sounds incompetent and that Cymbalta can aggravate the liver and he should have felt my abdomen to make sure the liver was fine. I doubt that this is from the Cymbalta, and it may be that you don't even need the Cymbalta. Something is out of whack with your thyroid or something else in your endocrine system, which can also cause depression. I would make an appt. to see an Endocrinologist ASAP. I have been taking Darvocet for about two years now. I began just taking one a week at night after a bad day and it has progressed to 1-3 daily for about 6 months now. I went to the Dr. for a checkup yesterday and the ALT liver function test was high. The other liver tests were normal just that one was high. The Dr. thinks it is from my acid reflux medication and is changing that but I rarely take it. Could it be the Darvocet?

The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol..

I have never been to hospital, I dont appear to have yellowing of the skin or eyes. What is the likly hood of damage to my liver, and if stoped now could my liver possibly recover from and damege.

Hard to say but if he stops attacking the liver with alcohol, no further damage should be done and some of those numbers should go down at least a little.

My brother has been in the hospital for 12 days for liver damage. His skin and eyes are yellow, abdomen pain and swelling of the stomach. They drained off 12 liters of fluid from stomach area. He's has dementia, no communicating with him that makes any sense. In this situation what is his chance to make it through this? The doctors and nurses are not saying much, but wait and see.
