Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta in the elderly

cymbalta

Avatar n tn We would appreaciate any and all thoughts and comments on Lyrica and/or Cymbalta in the elderly (oh, how she would cringe to be referred to as elderly..) especially examples good or bad and also any alternatives to that type of drug therapy. My Mom has scheduled an "emergency" doctor's appt. for her this coming Thursday (6/19.
Avatar f tn If you had a bad experience with Cymbalta and Lyrica, I am not sure you won't experience the same with the Savella (as it's much the same as Cymbalta). I had a horrible time when taking Effexor with Ultram...it almost gave me seizures. Here are the drug interactions. Be safe. http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.
1286779 tn?1400012806 A gerontologist is far more likely to be aware of adverse reactions in the elderly and know how to treat them or figure out a different medication regimen. Also, much as we like to think all of our doctors are up on the latest and greatest information on every single medication on the market, it's impossible. Not even pharmacists can keep up with it all.
Avatar f tn He offered help me to sweep the floor/yard. Hanging and picking up the clothes. He also concentrated on the weather make sure he picked up the clothes before it rained. He'll miss if he slept all the day long! LOL. He liked sleep (usually longer hour than us). He said to me, when getting old all the bones shrink, so can feel the body aching. He said exercise is important. Even he was on the bed, he also moving his toes and fingers a lot.
Avatar f tn even of taking the meds. Tried the cymbalta the other day, made me extremely nauseus, chills and felt like I had the flu. So I stopped it. In your opinion would i be better off with the ultram and valium along with physical therapy, or the cymbalta with valium. I hate taking pills, and the withdrawal from cymbalta looks like a nightmare!! also I am going to start to see a therapist...hopefully that will help. Just in terrible cycle of pain..anxiety..no movement..more pain etc.....
Avatar f tn s body if miss proscribed, especially if the person taking it is that of the elderly minority. Perhaps they should ask the doctors to run a manual scan of his blood count and ask if they found any abnormalities in the first test. IF they didn't be sure to ask them to do the manual. I have a hunch. Please get back to me after you hear the responses from the medical providers.
Avatar f tn The ringing is so bad in the night and in the morning think it makes the pain worse. Also on 2 1/2 mg Ativan but have been trying to come off it as the anxiety is much less. I did quit smoking and have started again but not very much. None of the Dr's can explain.
Avatar n tn i work with the elderly and am currently looking into training in the ombudsman program, which means in plain old terms, becoming an advocate for people who need help and don't know where or how to go about getting it...
Avatar f tn @ 2wks ago i noticed an almost burning sensitivity on the left side of my forehead, running back to top of my scalp when i touch the area lightly or brush my hair. i take prozac, cymbalta lopressor neurontin. i have fibromyalgia and atypical rheumatoid arthritis.53yr old female.i had two concussions on the left side.
306455 tn?1288862071 Im sorry honey...you will get through it....that really *****. What's the reason you want off the Cymbalta? I mean, your not abusing right? So why come off? Its expensive? Well, then I can relate there.. Anyway, I'm pulling for ya...
Avatar n tn Go with lots and lots of fiber, at least the minimun daily requirement and this should help unless she is developing IBS. Try this and if it doesn't work have her see a GI dr.
Avatar m tn t go now his body will force him to go eventually and it may be too late. By nipping things in the bud we can prevent any serious problems in the future. You should also get him on probiotics either a supplement or yogurt enriched with it. We are more apt to develop polyps after the age of 50 and that's why they suggest we start having colonoscopies at age 50.
Avatar m tn Ok. So I'm taking Cymbalta. I know it's incredibly stupid what I did, but I was determined. I tried for literally 3 hours to reach an orgasm by masturbating, but couldn't. The Cymbalta isn't in it's activation stage, so I'm told that it could go away? Don't know. My penis is always pushing in. Like when you get an erection... IDK, it's hard to explain. There's no pain.
Avatar n tn Are the blood blisters in the arms and legs of some elderly a vitamin or mineral deficiency? If so, what will help? This discussion is related to blood blisters.
Avatar f tn Hi. 5'10" Gent, and brand spankin newbie to this site. i just turned 56 in April. In my journal August. 12, 2013, I recorded wgt. 247.5 lb, BP 157/101, severe depression & anxiety with heaart palpitations and mid-nightime panic attacks. Also using CPAP setting of 14cm for severe sleep apnea, and suffered almost daily migraines. Plus my triglicerides were, as my dr put it, "through the roof!
Avatar f tn I feel like I'm tired all the time (in my normal life) and when I was prescribed hydrocodone for a few months for an injury I felt all around much better. I got more done, had more energy..etc etc.. Why does that happen with this medication? Now that I'm going to be stopping them I wanted to find something that would help give me more pep. I already drink coffee.
Avatar f tn I have been on Cymbalta for about a year and a half. Before Cymbalta I was on Effexor and before that Zoloft. Out of the 3, Cymbalta has been the best for me. It works well, but it did VERY well for the first 2 months. I felt very happy and always in a good mood. I tried Lexapro once but it made me always down and in a bad mood.
161427 tn?1229911282 I would like to do a short experiment by taking my mother-in-law off Plavix for a few days while she is in her normal living conditions at the nursing home. However, I have not seen dementia listed in any materials related to Plavix, so no one caring for my mother-in-law takes this idea seriously. Does anyone have any experience with this situation? Could it be dangerous to take her off the Plavix for a few days? Are there any substitutes for Plavix that might work better?
757597 tn?1315801812 Right before I read your post, I've been reading the Tramadol withdrawl thread under EmilyPost posts. I really suggest you read it and see what other users have experienced. At my peak I was on both Cymbalta and Lyrica (for three years) plus eight Ultracet each day (for three years). I've discontinued both the Cymbalta and Lyrica (and this wasn't pretty!) and I am on the Ultracet "reduction plan" - down to two per day.
Avatar f tn (it generally takes 5 half lives for a drug to clear your body); for Cymbalta the half life is 12 hours. So theoretically Cymbalta would be out of your system in about 3 days. I always advocate letting your doctor know about changing, especially since they should have it in your records (or at least let their staff know so the Dr. can talk to you). Hope this was helpful to you.
Avatar n tn i have this exact problem.....i also have buzzings in the back of my head where the sweating is.....
Avatar f tn She has just seemed a bit unsettled since this peeing in the house started. I know she is elderly and that some things may seem inevitable. I was wondering if this could be a bladder infection or kidney trouble?

Avatar m tn However, as recent as yesterday the pain started coming back. She is in Trinidad and Tobago right now on holiday for the past month and the pains in the left side of her head started coming back. She is in extreme pain and I am seeking anyone's help in identifying the nature, cause and proposed treatment of this strange occurrence. Please help us. Thank You!
Avatar n tn Hi Grace, She has the horrible burning in her back. She was diagnosed with "shingles" several years ago after a doctor noticed the blisters. Most of the time she doesn't break out, but just has the internal symptoms. They are almost always on her back. She has had several different episodes in the last year or so and they usually last for weeks. She was diagnosed this week from a blood test. She had a really severe case of shingles years and years ago. Thanks!
Avatar f tn According to an article in the international journal Research on Aging in 2009, the elderly population in China will have tripled by 2050. Norway and China are in many ways extreme opposites when it comes to family policy. Under China's policy responsibility for the family rests entirely with families themselves. There are almost no institutions for the elderly, and few elderly people receive pensions.
