Cymbalta for ibs

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta for ibs

cymbalta

Avatar f tn Hello and welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. Please do check in with both your psychiatrist that made the Cymbalta prescription as well as any GI doctors you've seen for IBS. IBS is greatly influenced by anxiety and stress. Perhaps this became an issue as you switched medications. Are you feeling more stressed? And any type of change can indeed aggravate IBS as well as the fact that Cymbalta is associated with gi changes. Please talk to your doctor about this.
233622 tn?1279334905 Hello LA, Thanks so much for the response to my rant yesterday. I feel better today. Still have the double vision but like always my friends here cheer me up. To answer your question. I was on Cymbalta for about 6 weeks. I asked to be taken off of it. It was making me feel strange. Very "short Fused", irritated, grouchy. I started taking Effexor when this started and I went back to it just a higher dose now. I have seen where people here have got on it and it has helped very well.
653138 tn?1258572904 well, i believe the psychiatric problems came first- i am on effexor xr 300mg, wellbutrin 300mg, trazodone 300mg, and seroquel xr.400mg- changing for effexor VERY GRADUALLY to cymbalta- for the pain. i have always had anxiety that i feel mostly in my stomach, vomit alot when stressed- and then am constipated most of the other time- the doctor thinks it is IBS, the pcos i have had since my 20's (34 now).
Avatar f tn hi gald it went well for u even though u got an earful doctors eh what do they know lol let them have ibs for a few weeks a whole new story i bet
Avatar f tn ve been taking the medication. I took Paxil for many years and it stopped working for me and started making me sick to my stomach. I don't recommend Paxil, because I know of others who had problems taking Paxil, too. What ever you and your doctor decide to do, don't stop taking the medications you're on now abruptly. This is true for all of the medications in this class.
Avatar f tn I'm a nurse working in an acute hospital situation, I have horses. I have been diagnosed by my physician with IBS, mild hypercalcemia, mild splenomegaly, 2 episodes of heart arrythmia with inverted P waves and chest pain. Other than the mildly elevated calcium, all other labs are within normal limits. No stool cultures.
Avatar f tn Could anyone tell me if they have gotten Duvanta-30 as a generic for cymbalta? Due to the money crunch we have had to look to the canadian drug companys for my husbands meds that he takes, and when I ordered the cymbalta that is what they sent, and when I questioned it they said it was the same... So a little feed back would be great. thanks.
299889 tn?1257339377 t take any controlled drugs for Fibro. Is there another medication out for Fibro. Any help appreciated....She also has started suffering from anxiety attacks due to what is going on with her.
Avatar f tn m sure there are other things that can help. I now take Cymbalta for my stomach problems and it helps tremendously (IBS, PAIN etc). I hope this helps to provide a direction and I hope you aren't as bad as I was.
Avatar f tn I also have Fibro, diagnosed abt 7 yes ago. i have had a complete hysteroctomey so this is interesting to me. I stopped taking the prescribed hormones when the scare came up a few years back as had a lot of fibrocystic breast, pain that ran from the arm pit on the right side to the breast. I had ask to be taken off several years bf that but of course was talked out of it. Now am going to Physicians Asst for my med care.
Avatar f tn My symptoms are pretty classic, IBS, neck pain, hip pain, occasional swelling, etc. (magnesium, cymbalta, lyrica, yaz). I also have vulvar vestibuluitis (with 2 unsuccessful tissue excisions), a microadenoma on the pituitary gland (with slightly increased prolactin level), family history of severe juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, maternal hx of hypothyroidism, very low levels of IGA, and IBS. I found some old tests in a drawer that showed my thyroid antibody level at 135.
Avatar f tn Constant worry, my mind doesn't slow down. I do not cry much, inward, weight loss, IBS....."food digestion"........Insomnia, Lump in throat at times. Muscle stiffness.
Avatar m tn Cymbalta actually worked for me after I had a major back surgery...i had alot of nerve damage in my sciatic and the cymbalta helped me while they were doing procedures to ease the nerve pain such as epidurals and rfas...however getting off of it was not the easiest thing I ever had to do...my dr lowered the dose and got me off of it safely but I was still going through some moderate withdrawals like shaking and nausea but they only lasted a few weeks and I was fine afterward...
8496079 tn?1398412516 I take cymbalta for the pain in my hips. I find it works relatively well.
318073 tn?1197565324 I have been diagnosed with fibro over a year ago and take numerous herbs and they tried cymbalta which I stopped cause it made me hyper and nausias now he gave me neurontin which I have not taken yet. Has anyone tried this med yet. Has anyone else developed a b12 defiency also.
956292 tn?1334054869 I hope I said that right....and said Lyrica or Cymbalta..He said these 2 meds are successful in being used for pain but he does not want to put me on ALL kinds of meds..If he can treat both issues with 1 he can be satisfied, if not we will look at the other option....He also told me a story of a study of a patient with neuropathic pain from diabetes and said this med was used and worked well for..... So...follow up in 3 months..AND do not hesitate to call me if anything happens....
Avatar n tn I use Cymbalta for abdomen, neck and hand pain and Fibromyalgia. It does a good job for me. There are some unpleasant side effects such as nausea and being light headed upon standing being the worst for me. I tried Neurontin and Lyrica. I couldn't take the side effects from either of those two. I've experienced life without Cymbalta. Without it my pains levels are considerably higher. My mood is much better on it.
Avatar f tn Has anyone been perscribed Paroxetine for their neuropothy symptoms? I saw my physiatrist last week for the increasing pain I am having related to my syrinx. He advised me to check back in with my NS, and gave me a script for Cymbalta. Apparently, this anti-depressant also works on nerves. I'm definitely not a depressed person - so I had my reservations for Cymbalta, but the pharmacist re-assured me that my dr prescribed it for neuro issues.
Avatar f tn I started Cymbalta 8 to 8 days ago for MDD and Gad with obsessive thoughts. And now tapering Effexor gradually. I didn't see improvement till now and feel very depressed and feel like my head is going to explode cz of the thoughts and the continuously feeling down with no interest or motivation to do anything in life. Do I need to wait for Cymbalta more or shall I consult my doctor to change it? And is it effective with treatment resistant cases as iam a treatment resistant case?
Avatar f tn He met with me and was pretty thorough and reduced my medications from 150 of Levothyoxine to 25 mg. He also suggested I increaes my Cymbalta. I called my doctor today and the nurse told me the reason for the 150 mg was that my family doctor wanted to help me with extra weight loss and thought this might do the trick. I asked about Cymbalta as I am taking 60 mg and he increased it to 120 mg, sort of nervous about this as it is designed at high doses for people with pain. That isn't me.
Avatar n tn meds that a lot of doctors tend to try - Cymbalta. How do you find the Cymbalta working for you? Have you noticed it has helped with your pain at all? Have you tried Savella? That also is a "newer" med that is used for fibro. Do you also take a muscle relaxer? If not, you may want to ask your doctor about adding one to your med regime. While I don't find that they help alone, I have found that they can be helpful when added to my other meds. How is your sleep?
Avatar n tn Cymbalta will cause a little dirrhea at first, but this has been going on for some time as you said. Are you eating enough fiber? Fruits? staying away from coffee, spices, salts, red meats, alcohol? These will trigger diarrhea. I think your doctor is right in taking one problem at a time. However!...Don't let them "wait" to long as in how long they think it is till they try something new for you. I had 2 of those doctors and i finally had to be bold...
Avatar f tn I ended up having a hysterectomy 3 months ago. Had anyone taken cymbalta for lower back pain? All I have is Flexerrel (muscle relaxers) but that doesn't work every time.
Avatar m tn I was on Cymbalta for about 6 years. Last year my Pdoc doubled the dose for awhile. Then for 8 months we tried med changes. 10 different medicines. At the end he kept me on the 4 pill drug cocktail I had originally had before the episode. I am helped greatly by talk therapy. So I'm concentrating on that for now. What about you?
1348086 tn?1370783185 Prozac tends to be better for depression than for anxiety, but then, so is Cymbalta, since both are also stimulating (Cymbalta much more so). On the other hand, if Prozac works, it's probably the least troublesome of all these meds. Cymbalta is liver toxic for many and one of the hardest to get off of, while Prozac is one of the easiest to come off of since it stays in the body for a lot longer time and therefore the withdrawal is, for most people, slower and easier.
