Avatar n tn Strange that your anxiety has increased as Cymbalta is FDA approved for generalized anxiety disorder. A med I take for anxiety is propranolol. It is a beta blocker used for high blood pressure, anxiety and akathisia.
Avatar n tn Cymbalta is used to treat major depressive disorder and general anxiety disorder. It is also used to treat pain caused by nerve damage in people with diabetes (diabetic neuropathy). Cymbalta may also be used for other purposes not listed. Although there are side effects with all medications it depends on the individual as to whether or not he/she may suffer any or many.
1258539 tn?1293840202 As far as depression and anxiety go, I would highly recommend Buspirone for anxiety, it was the only thing that helped me. And for depression, i've got backwards and away from SSRI and SNRI's and got to a tricyclic called Amitriptyline. This combo has got me feeling better than when i was on Cymbalta which clouded me too much.
Avatar n tn Cymbalta is used to treat major depressive disorder and general anxiety disorder. It is also used to treat pain caused by nerve damage in people with diabetes (diabetic neuropathy). If your provider prescribed it for you he/she must think that it will be beneficial for you and you should take it as prescribed. Second guessing your provider, which so many people in these forums do, can be at a minimum detrimental to your overall mental health.
1088430 tn?1259159773 me up b/c of the combo w/ the neurontin? Would it be better for anxiety if I took Cymbalta in the am?
Business woman1 I have been on the medication for 2 1/2 years (for Fibromyalgia, depression and panic disorder). After doing a lot of research, I decided to wean myself off of the medication (yes, I did see my doctor first, but she was no help at all...and again, I did my research). After going down 20 mg for two days, I was a basket case.
Avatar f tn My grandmother recently had stents put in and ever since she has been hearing voices that are not real? The only new med is Plavix. 177382 tn?1253041140 Paxil -Paroxetine is used to treat mental depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder (also known as social phobia), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Paroxetine belongs to a group of medicines known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These medicines are thought to work by increasing the activity of the chemical serotonin in the brain.
1237495 tn?1268837283 After weening myself off of Cymbalta (I had been on it for 4 years without ANY anxiety or depression no matter the situation) I fell apart and now am on 300mg of Luvox and .5mg Xanax when necessary. I can't really even exercise anymore due to the fear of suffocating... which started in October.
865758 tn?1285952904 Some antidepressants are effective in treating anxiety; however, they can have unpleasant side-effects and actually make the anxiety worse for the first few weeks. In general, you should never rely solely on medication to treat depression / anxiety disorders. They should be used to "take the edge off" while you learn new ways to deal with your problems. Therapy is a great way to do this.
Avatar m tn I have been having anxiety problems for a few months now. I was prescribed paxil and ativan originally. I tried the paxil for one day and did not like the side effects it was giving me. So I went to counseling to try and get over this without taking medications. Well a couple of weekends ago I had a really bad weekend. I went to my doctor because I was having abdominal pains and was thinking it was something serious (which is what my anxiety problem is: health concerns).
480448 tn?1426948538 I am on Cymbalta right now. I choose this AD because of it's analgesic ability because i have occipital neuralgia. It can be a very stimulating AD tho and for anxiety I'm not sure it's the best choice but here again it's a gamble because lack of serotonin can cause anxiety and too much norepinephrine can also cause anxiety. One thing i can tell you is that whith Cymbalta, healthy diet and exercise my anxiety and depression is gone.
3547166 tn?1347814000 I am seeing a Psychiatrist and I have tried many medications. She has recently prescribed Cymbalta. I haven't been taking it long enough to notice a difference yet. I keep thinking, what if Cymbalta doesn't work either? Thank you for your help.
Avatar n tn If it has been 4 months, you may need to be on a different medication or a higher dose. I already see the cymbalta working drastically for me and I have been on it a week. Given I have been on other medicines before, you should see a big change in behavior. Derealization leaves with the anxiety, but the anxiety can still be there without the derealization. Counseling with help with this issue very much. If you notice, when you arent paying much attention to the derealization you feel real.
Avatar m tn I have recently been prescribed Ativan for a social anxiety disorder but I am concerned that this medication will cause me to gain weight and seems to have much more side effects than Wellbutrin, so should I request to be changed to Wellbutrin which does not have as many side effects - mainly causing weight gain.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking klonopin twice a day which is a miracle for me prescribed from my psychiatrist... Prior to this I was taking cymbalta only for a week and 2 days! I stopped taking the cymbalta due to side effects. I didn't take any on Monday and still haven't. My primary care doctor prescribed the cymbalta to me! I was in the middle of withdrawing from celexa which was a nightmare in itself it's been almost a month I been off of it!
Avatar f tn I have agoraphobia/panic disorder. too scared to take any antidepressants/anxiety meds such as lexapro had horrible experiences in the past. Its gotten worse as i'm becoming more and more of a recluse. i don't know what to do anymore been sick for a couple months now its just constant panic attacks.
Avatar n tn i have been on 120mg of cymbalta for about 6 weeks, the upper part of my body itches a lot,my face, scalp, arms ect.could this be a side effect from cymbalta??
Avatar n tn Cymbalta has no useful indication for anxiety/panic, which is precisely why it isn't approved for this use. The drug is reserved for the treatment of depressive affects only. Under the supervision of a medical doctor, reduce the dosage to 30 mg. Take 30 mg for one week. The second week, take 15 mg every other day, then stop. You've not been on it long, and the idea is to get off of it as quickly as possible - before it alters your chemistry significantly.
Avatar f tn I'm on week 3 of Pristiq after Cymbalta pooped out on me after 5 successful yrs on it. First tried to switch me to Zoloft and that made me worse (February 2014). Until 3 weeks ago, they tried to add things to the Cymbakta (Abilify, buspar) but it wasn't working (for deoression/anxiety). 3 weeks ago to Pristiq 50mg.
Avatar f tn s easy for one is hard for another. But again, these two are difficult meds, and Cymbalta is more for depression than anxiety, but you do have both. You can do a lot of research on your own if you choose to by just googling them, but that still won't tell you what your experience will be. By reputation, the easiest to tolerate are Prozac and Lexapro. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I have suffered from Anxiety for around 5 years, I have it under control on most days, I am using Cymbalta (30mg per day) and Propranolol (10mg per day). Another side effect of one of the above medications is excessive sweating after exercise or manual activity, I have read that this is common and that it affects 5 - 20% of people on anti-depressants and that it has something to do with serotonin levels / inhibitors.....
