We would appreaciate any and all thoughts and comments on Lyrica and/or Cymbalta in the elderly (oh, how she would cringe to be referred to as elderly..) especially examples good or bad and also any alternatives to that type of drug therapy. My Mom has scheduled an "emergency" doctor's appt. for her this coming Thursday (6/19.
Doctor wants to break the pain cycle with cymbalta 20 mgs a day with valium 2.5 until cymbalta kicks in, Then start back upwith physical therapy in 2 weeks. He also said it is safe to take the ultram with the cymbalta since it is such a low dose. My pharmacist strongly disagrees. I have such anxiety,fear, and panic...even of taking the meds. Tried the cymbalta the other day, made me extremely nauseus,chills and felt like I had the flu. So I stopped it.
He was on Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Hydrocodone (for severe leg pain), but got off because he thought that might be causing it. So far, nothing has helped. Any suggestions?
@ 2wks ago i noticed an almost burning sensitivity on the left side of my forehead, running back to top of my scalp when i touch the area lightly or brush my hair. i take prozac, cymbalta lopressor neurontin. i have fibromyalgia and atypical rheumatoid arthritis.53yr old female.i had two concussions on the left side.
For neuropathy and other sensations I had relief with both Cymbalta and Lyrica. The only downside to the Lyrica was difficulty with cognition and drowsiness.
Savella (milnacipran) is the new medication and it works much the same as Cymbalta...it is an antidepressant.
As uk2 mentioned, the patches help with pain as well.
My current treatment is with Ultram for both FMS and RSD and Trazadone for sleep. It's much a 'trial and error'...
Sometimes I would just wake up with strange pains, spasms. Last 5 years taking care of elderly sick parents...lots of stress. Also had severe tmj years ago and lost alot of weight. Doctors attributed all of these pains to my low weight...but all my labs are good. Have every test run...so far all normal. All xrays normal. Now I am so hunched over,with exteme muscle tightness in chest and upper back. Haven't been to physical therapy in 2 months which makes me more stiff.
All of a suden she supposedly has Anxiety disorder ..so now she is on klonapin,cymbalta,remeron ,ambien,xanax,and darvon , and is not getting any better!!!! ,My question is.... Do you think the stopping of the Elavil caused this traumatic experience ? The side effects of all these drugs are unbeleivable ,and could they play a part in her not getting better?
Hi, My doctor wants to put me on cymbalta for nerve pain that I have been having from an injury I have from 2005. It's nerve pain from a fall I took. He says it will help to calm down the nerves and signals from my brain to help with the pain. The prescription is for 30mg, 1 tab a day then increase to 2 tabs and recheck with him in a month. I'm alittle scared to take this, as I have never had to go on this kind of medicene and I'm afraid what the side effects might do.
Only took Cymbalta for 3 months but had side effects of being off balance lightheaded feeling like I am walking in a boat now I being taken off the drug and having nightmares the sweats headaches anyone had this experience with this drug?
I have tried it all! Everybody is different. I am on 60mg of Cymbalta. I can't not take it though because it messes me up (if my insurance is messing around etc...) but if youre ready to be consistent, I'd try it.
HI I am going to the doctor on the 13th of june to get on an antidepressant.
That being said, her doctor was wise to switch her over to another medication like Cymbalta. 30Mgs of Cymbalta is a good starting point and this gives him option to ramp the dosage up as needed.
Regardless of this fact, Cymbalta, May or may not be an effective medication for her. I tried Cymbalta for 7 weeks at 60Mgs per day (after 4 years on Effexor) and in my case it did NOTHING to help with my condition.
Cymbalta made my depression worse and made me pretty nauseated. But then, I never do respond to psychotropic drugs or antidepressants very well.
My Dr. wanted me to try low dose Cymbalta for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and did not have the 30 mg samples so i was given the 60 mg with instructions to empty the capsules into food, as this would reduce the dose by approximately half. I became very ill with vomiting and severe diarreah. I was up all night running to the bathroom and was concerned when i looked up information on cymbalta that said not to open capsules.
I had insomnia and fibromyalgia. My doctor put me on Cymbalta. He said it would help me with sleep and pain. It was 2 weeks of hell, no sleep and constant pain and I wanted to kill myself!!! I was not depressed and have no history of depression. my doctor switched me to amitriptyline. It helps with sleep but not pain, I would never recommend Cymbalta to anyone !
