Early last year I stopped Cymbalta and had no problems being on it or getting off of it. Then last Summer I began taking Victoza for my Diabetes, I take 1.2 mg injection every other day. It's a great medicine and has also helped me lose weight.
Then in Mid-December I was getting Depressed again and thought I might try going back on Cymbalta. I took one 60mg capsule in the early afternoon. I was fine until about 8 hours later.
My Dr. wanted me to try low dose Cymbalta for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and did not have the 30 mg samples so i was given the 60 mg with instructions to empty the capsules into food, as this would reduce the dose by approximately half. I became very ill with vomiting and severe diarreah. I was up all night running to the bathroom and was concerned when i looked up information on cymbalta that said not to open capsules.
so dr put me on cymbalta and i take adhd med....cymbalta did nothing after raising dose...and nothing...so since cymbalta they said also was for my anxiety they switched me to prozac (fluoxene) (400mg a day...that's max per day)....so thats prozac, tramadol and adhd stimulant...which brings me to my point.....i very quickly each hour of each day became extremely ill...extreme fatigue, vomiting, shortness of breath, dizzy, shakey, blurred vision....the list goes on...
dizziness, nausea, headache, paresthesia, fatigue, vomiting, irritability, insomnia, diarrhea, anxiety, and hyperhidrosis (increased sweating). Search Cymbalta PDR and Eli Lilly
P.S. When my grandfather wanted to stop his Cymbalta (after being well informed of the Pros/Cons), I just sprinkled a tiny bit of the capsule into the trash and closed the capsule back up. Each week I sprinkled a little more into the trash. You MUST NOT swallow the tiny beads without the protective capsule coating !!!
My 20 year old daughter has been vomiting after eating and has had numerous gastro tests done that all appear to be normal. She's also on depression meds (Cymbalta, Lithium and Seroquel), and I'm wondering if it could be Lithium toxicity (a buildup of lithium in the system) causing the vomiting ... hoping to get her to the doc tomorrow ... blood work might be required to confirm that.
Last night I had some very weird experiences, including feeling like someone was pulling my hair and arms, I kept hearing laughter and crying, and it was loud enough that I kept being woken up. I have no history of hallucinations, and I'm trying to figure out if this is the new medication. Has anyone taking cymbalta had tactile hallucinations, or what were other peoples experience.
I am currently taking klonopin twice a day which is a miracle for me prescribed from my psychiatrist... Prior to this I was taking cymbalta only for a week and 2 days! I stopped taking the cymbalta due to side effects. I didn't take any on Monday and still haven't. My primary care doctor prescribed the cymbalta to me! I was in the middle of withdrawing from celexa which was a nightmare in itself it's been almost a month I been off of it!
Combining these medications can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Severe cases may result in coma and even death.
For neuropathy and other sensations I had relief with both Cymbalta and Lyrica. The only downside to the Lyrica was difficulty with cognition and drowsiness.
Savella (milnacipran) is the new medication and it works much the same as Cymbalta...it is an antidepressant.
As uk2 mentioned, the patches help with pain as well.
My current treatment is with Ultram for both FMS and RSD and Trazadone for sleep. It's much a 'trial and error'...
I was put on cymbalta for depression and nerve pain ( RSD ). I hate taking new medicines I know nothing about. I am young and I am afraid of it. I start off taking 30 mgs for a week than increase to 60 than I will get up to 120 at some point. Could someone please tell me something about this drug? Is it safe?

I have come off of a lot of my medications. My final meds are Wellbutrin, Trazodone and Cymbalta. The Wellbutrin is suppose to take the place of the cymbalta. After horrible withdrawal, I came completely off of Cymbalta last week. I became so depressed that I couldn't stand to talk, much less move. All I wanted to do was sleep and be left alone. When I did interact, I was grizzly mean.
The average dose for Cymbalta is 60mg per day, and although some doctors do prescribe it 120mg per day...there is no evidence to prove that it helps any more than the 60 mg per day. The maximim dose for Prozac is 80mg per day so you're still below the highest dosage on that one. I doubt your doctor will increase the Cymbalta anymore, and if he tries to...find another doctor! My sister started taking Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia and her appetite dropped a lot, and just a few months later she was pre-diabetic. I have read some other people's comments saying that going on or even going off of cymbalta has really messed up their blood sugar. some people even say that it made them diabetic. so if you are on cymbalta, just watch out for some of the pre-diabetes symptoms and tell your doctor about any weird eating habit changes that happen.

mcmcorp45 offers excellent information and advice and it is true that studies have shown that Cymbalta does note alter the reproduction process.
If this is going to be your first child and you are having difficulties, I would consult with a doctor, who may need to refer you to a specialist as mcmcorp45 mentioned. Don't forget to have both parties evaluated for a possible problem.
And Paxil gives more people a rough time upon stopping than any other antidepressant other than Effexor (and, ahem, Cymbalta). Your friend should have been tapered off the Paxil, and maybe was, but if not, and even if your friend was, there's a lot going on now possibly, too much for us to say which is which.
