Cymbalta and nerve damage

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta and nerve damage

Avatar n tn Cymbalta is used to treat major depressive disorder and general anxiety disorder. It is also used to treat pain caused by nerve damage in people with diabetes (diabetic neuropathy). If your provider prescribed it for you he/she must think that it will be beneficial for you and you should take it as prescribed. Second guessing your provider, which so many people in these forums do, can be at a minimum detrimental to your overall mental health.
186166 tn?1385262982 Had surgery which resulted in my foot being worse due to nerve damage. The dr. touched some nerve, and supposedly they shut down when touched. I was told the feeling would come back but could take up to 18 mos. Wasn't told this before the surgery. Anyway, it never did come back, and now my foot is cold all of the time. Made the pain worse than before the surgery. Anyway, my pc tried cymbalta once because of the nerve issue.
Avatar m tn I had a nuerostimulator installed twice for nerve damage in my chest from shingles over twenty years ago. I am about to have stimulator No. 3 installed with a lead down to my femoral nerve in hopes of keeping the use of narcotics to a minimum, as I now take 10 mg/ 4xaday of methadone and 10mg/3xaday of Percocet . Stress triggers a lot of my pain as I am now n a workers comp claim and my wife and mother in law are dealing with serious health issues also at this time.
664365 tn?1225161389 Medications and nerve blocks are the treatment for nerve damage due to colecystectomy. The symptoms improve over time so please be patient. You can also try alternative therapy like acupressure and acupuncture. B complex supplements will also help. Take care!
Avatar m tn Recently after two surgeries more then a year ago, my surgeon told me that it appears now that I have permemant nerve damage. I've had EMT test done about 3 different times.I have severe constant pain in both legs. A couple questions that I have.. do nerves regenerate if so how long does it take? Is there any surgery that can repair nerve damage? Is there any test that can tell exclusly if there is perment VS tempory nerve damage.
Avatar n tn I have been told that it is permenent and that i could take Cymbalta. I refused and live with the pain. I need suggestions on how to deal with this. It affects my sleep, my mood with my children adn husband and my outlook on life. I cant find anything on the nerve pain affiliated with this condition. Idea????
Avatar m tn Cymbalta actually worked for me after I had a major back surgery...i had alot of nerve damage in my sciatic and the cymbalta helped me while they were doing procedures to ease the nerve pain such as epidurals and rfas...however getting off of it was not the easiest thing I ever had to dr lowered the dose and got me off of it safely but I was still going through some moderate withdrawals like shaking and nausea but they only lasted a few weeks and I was fine afterward...
Avatar n tn Lately I find myself feeling like I'm sinking into a depression and also having some serious anxiety. My nerve pain is in my hand and wrist and at times in my forearm up to my elbow. I have been having a hard time controlling the pain. It originated with a joint implant nearly 3 years ago. I also tried Neurontin and Lyrica and couldn't tolerate the side effects of either. The Neurontin made me feel like I was in a fog or had some sort of brain damage.
Avatar n tn I have tried anti-inflammatory meds, neurontin, and am currently taking Lyrica and Cymbalta, with help or relief. This condition is ongoing since Sept. 2009. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
611606 tn?1315521367 Always such a fine line we have to walk.. Is there any one else using Cymbalta for deep nerve pain? This is such a double edge sword, and feels so unfair... But than there are times when nothing seems fair. I am sorry this is such a long post, I hope I didn't make it too hard to follow. Thank you in advance for any in-put you might have for me... Hugs on the winds to each of you.{{{{{~!~}}}}} DJ PS: I am doing fine, thanks to my Faith and Our heavenly Father.
Avatar m tn it sounds like you have had extensive injury since you had tendon and artery damage as well. The ulnar nerve crosses along the medial aspect of the elbow (the part of the elbow closer to the body, where the "funny bone" is). It is a common site of ulnar nerve injury.
Avatar n tn I explained that I felt ok since the surgery so how could it be nerve damage? He told me that nerve damage can come instantly or come months after having surgery. I didn't know what was going on all I knew was I was in alot of pain and wanted this fixed or whatever. So workers comp sent me back to the original surgeon that fixed me prior. He had examined me said everything was fine and that there was no need to due surgery and referred me to a urologist.
Avatar n tn I was put on cymbalta for depression and nerve pain ( RSD ). I hate taking new medicines I know nothing about. I am young and I am afraid of it. I start off taking 30 mgs for a week than increase to 60 than I will get up to 120 at some point. Could someone please tell me something about this drug? Is it safe? Thanks Susan...
Avatar f tn I am seeing a pain management docter tommorrow and I can let you know how it goes. Apparantly there are drugs that are specific to nerve damage and procedures that can help which have something to do with pressure on the nerves. I understand your distress - It is very painfull and unpleasant - however it is important to rember that it is 'fake' pain as it does not come from any injury it is just the nerves 'misfiring'.
Avatar f tn Ok I'm not sure if this is where I ask questions or not but here it goes; starting with my back story. I am a 29yo F. I used to be in the navy and my job required me to do a lot of heavy lifting, up and down five flights of stairs, two-three times a day, for three years. About five years ago I began having lower right back pain. If i would lay on a hard flat surface on my back it would really act up. There were times it would almost cause me to become "paralyzed" it hurt so bad.
Avatar f tn This is another reason why my prescription was changed to gabapentin because it is believed that the Cymbalta can also damage even further my kidneys. I would like to know if anyone else has been taking Cymbalta and has developed kidney damage. And also if another drug other than Lyrica works well without doing any type of kidney damage. Thank you all for your input.
329994 tn?1301666848 I took Cymbalta for 4 yrs and finally just got off of it. While Cymbalta did help manage both my depression and muscle pain, the side effects were what i hated about it. I never had digestion problems from it, but my stomach hurt constantly and my appetite disappeared. Eating became a chore and if i got distracted with school/work responsibilities, i would forget to eat, sometimes for 2 days. I also developed hyperhydrosis and always had a chemical/metalic taste in my mouth.
Avatar n tn I would recommend that you get an EMG/nerve conduction study to evaluate for signs of nerve/muscle damage. You should also see a vascular surgeon for consultation on your peripheral vascular disease. Neuropathic pain medications such as Neurontin, Lyrica, Elavil, Pamelor, Maprotiline, Cymbalta, etc. are generally most helpful for pain associated with this type of damage. I hope this has been helpful.
Avatar n tn Has your doctor considered that diabetic nerve damage to the vagus nerve into your stomach and intestines has turned into gastraparisis? Hope you find an answer and feel better soon.
Avatar m tn I am in the midst of 2nd wk on Cymbalta for nerve damage pain. Other than messing up my sleep, no ill effects. I am giving it another month b/c I have to pay up front and get reimbursed 60% and it is $250/mo. Ouch. Tapering off oxycodone, last 2 pills scheduled in 2 days - just started tapering as I cont to take 5/day as I was before I got the 50 pills. Hoping the antidepressant pt of the Cymbalta will combat the blues of w/d. Maybe that will help you, too. Good luck!
491030 tn?1242428366 So I went to go see my Dr. yesterday and she said it sounded like I have nerve damage so she has suggested I take Lyrica "I am afraid" I already take 2 meds norco and xanax they continue to want me to be on another med and I am afraid to take it ...has anyone taken this medication and how well did they do on it or if they had really bad side effects..
Avatar f tn I cant even put shoes on at times it hurts in my buttock all the way down yo my ankles and toes. Could I have nerve damage due yo the mylo ? IThat was my 5th mylo and they never hurt before. Thank you for your help. I only pray for someone to help me.
Avatar n tn I might have 5 attacks a day, then none for a day or two. Nighttime seems to be the worse. I am on Neurontin and my neurologist just put me on Cymbalta to see if that helps. Unfortunately, I am still experencing pain. Does any have any similar pain? I am open to ideas as to how to deal with the pain. Thanks....
Avatar f tn I had a 5 inch piece of nerve taken from my leg and sent to the mayo clinic who gave me the final diagosis. If your nerve condution tests were normal then I don't think a biopsy would be fruitful. I have had 'chronic' long term damage to my peripheral nerves. It bothers me 24/7 and impairs my mobility significantly. Since you are young, You could very well be experiencing the 'inflamation' of the nervous system and effects of that. Without the demylination of the nerve itself..
Avatar n tn I have been on Seroquel 600mg and Effexor 300mg. I too am having nerve problems with my ulner nerve, numb, tingling along the inside of my left arm along with the pinky, ring finger and side of my palm. In addition to that, my inside left calf, ball of my foot and big toe are the same. The big problem is that I have an undiagnosed eye pain that is preventing me keeping my eyes open for too long at a time. I hope you find a solution to your problems.
Avatar f tn I think there must be a connection with digestion and the vagus nerve but what is the cause, the stomach acid irritating the nerve or the nerve making the stomach produce more acid and the symptoms. Hmm interesting , I hope this has helped and maybe we can start to understand our bodies and hopefully get some answers somewhere. Im glad I found these postings it sure has helped knowing that Im not imagining this.
Avatar f tn Especially considering my health, I have low back issues, have had major back surgery, permenent nerve damage that affects my legs and also was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a year and a half ago at the age of 27. I have been on medication for my back issues for almost 2 years, I take Norco 10/325 4 times a day and Neurontin 300 mgs 3 times a day.
Avatar m tn Can anyone give me information on whether you've had a nerve conduction study and whether there is a relationship between that study and the degeneration and other issues in the spine? I'm taking cymbalta and traumadol for pain and doing physical therapy and home exercise program with fairly good results. Thank you.
