Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta and losing weight

cymbalta

Avatar n tn I have never put on weight this fast in my life and I am horrified!!! My doctor mentioned nothing about cymbalta causing weight gain but honestly weight gain makes me depressed more than ever so it's a total lose lose situation!!!
Avatar f tn I have been taking Cymbalta for about a week now for fibromyalgia and they say it takes a month to start feeling the effects but they're wrong I started feeling at the second day I took it it has done wonders for me but the only side effect that I do have is no appetite. I have also noticed that I am losing some weight I haven't weighed myself but I can feel it when I put my clothes on. Has anybody lost a significant amount of weight while taking this medication?
7684852 tn?1437171892 I'm at 62 days and am on Cymbalta but still so down and don't want to do anything. My dog who never left my side doesn't even want to be around me. Shouldn't I be feeling good by now?
Avatar n tn Also, I was on it for almost five years until I realized it was failing on me And once I got off of it, I began losing weight! That being said, it is like all medications, it seemed to improve and heighten good qualities in me, while enhancing poorer ones. There is always a trade off with medications because they will change your perceptions and affect you thinking and personality to some extent.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Cymbalta and Xanax at the same time for more than a year. In fact, I lost almost 30 lbs. Don't think negative. I think it depends. Some gain and sone lose weight...not sure why... Thanks!
Avatar f tn s going to stick with me? Glad to not be gaining weight (the Cymbalta stuck me with 20 pounds in 30 days, so losing would be great, but the stomach **** stinks!
Avatar f tn The rest of it, I think has been a combination of total lack of motivation or feeling, no energy since starting on it, and basically, even though I KNOW I have to lose weight and HAVE to work on it, I just can not force myself to do anything about it because there is no emotions or feeling or motivation left since starting on it. So...I have a doc appointment in a week and am going to ask about switching.
Avatar f tn The paroxitine is an SSRI and the weight gain can be a side effect. I just looked on the web for a statistic and it said about 25 percent of people experience weight gain. As with any medication, it should never be stopped suddenly. These medications need to be tapered down slowly so that you don't experience side effects. The best thing to do is to talk to your doctor as soon as you can and tell him/her that you have stopped taking it.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm a 22 year old female. I tend to get breathless time and again and this never used to happen before, I also used to have panic attacks out of nowhere. I have a case of claustrophobia, even in open spaces. I sometimes wonder if I am not losing my sanity, I used to be so healthy, now I have noticed that I've been losing body weight, my breathing problem usually is more pronounced when I'm travelling even over short distances, please help!
Avatar f tn Hopefully someone will be able to help me with this. I've been on celexa for about 3 months started at 20mg now at 40 mg. I have been seeing a lot of benefits. However I used to be on cymbalta and no matter how much I went to the gym I couldn't lose weight. I am fixing to start working out again and trying to eat healthier. Does anyone know if celexa hinders weight loss with proper diet and exercise.
Avatar n tn The side effects are very individual, and those who are prone to weight problems without the meds will have a harder time. Cymbalta is a more stimulating drug than ssris, so maybe you will not have this problem as much with it. Remeron, or your mirtazapine, is the most weight gaining of all medications out there, and is actually sometimes given to geriatric patients who won't eat because it causes most people to want to eat constantly. Not a good one for a weight gainer.
407790 tn?1397761026 It's a bit too soon to tell but I'm hopeful. I stopped taking Pristiq last week and went on Cymbalta instead; I've taken that before and it never affected my weight. I also went on Topamax as a mood stabilizer and to help get the extra weight off. So...fingers crossed!
407790 tn?1397761026 Thanks so much for answering. Yes, it is meant to help my ADs work better. I'm on Cymbalta (30 mg) and Wellbutrin (300 mg.) I also take Lamictal (200 mg) and Topamax (200 mg), the latter mostly to help me lose the weight I gained on Pristiq (I quit that a month ago and started taking Cymbalta instead.) I also take Adderall because I have narcolepsy. I know, quite a cocktail. I have been on just about every AD there is for the past 20 years.
Avatar f tn If I did stop taking it, would the weight come off, or would I have to diet to get it off????? And what is a better drug to take? I am ADD/ADHD and really stressed out. I feel better when I take celexa 20 mg. daily and 5mg of Ritalin twice daily. I am only 4'11" and this weight HAS GOT TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar n tn i also quit xanax the same time i stopped the cymbalta, i was on the xanax for about 8 years.... needless to say it was hell, and now my hybercondria and agorophobia along with panic is coming back, but i like the fact my blood pressure is low now..... anyway is this a normal occurence or should i be worried??
Avatar f tn Is weight gain the norm for Cymbalta? I excercise regularly, watch my diet and still am not able to loose anything. It is very frustrating. I am on thyroid, but have it checked regularly, am a breast cancer survivor, take fosamax, and prescription Vit. D. Could any of that be associated with being unable to loose weight?
Avatar n tn Many people report gaining weight as a result of taking SSRI and SNRI medications. Some report losing weight as a result. According to a lot of studies and research that has been done over several years on this subject, There as been no conclusive evidence that SSRI or SNRI medications alter metabolism. Have I gained weight since I stated taking my first AD medication 16 years ago? Yes, but I also went from age 22 to 38 in that time. As we get older our metabolic rate slowes.
1348086 tn?1370783185 Off and on I have been able to control them. I have been to therapists and on different meds (now on Cymbalta), The doctor gave me clorazepate for anxiety attacks a couple of years ago. I hate taking them because they make my depression worse. I only take them if it is dire. Now, my job has got me stressed 10 fold. I have to come home and take care of my 77 year old mother (whom my therapist tells me is the core of my mental problems). I am afraid I am becoming agoraphobic.
Avatar f tn I have been on Cymbalta and actually lost some weight. I'm on Lexapro now and had to back my dose down because I was putting weight on. I did find that the Cymbalta helped my back pain. I really hope it helps your headaches.
Avatar n tn I have come off of a lot of my medications. My final meds are Wellbutrin, Trazodone and Cymbalta. The Wellbutrin is suppose to take the place of the cymbalta. After horrible withdrawal, I came completely off of Cymbalta last week. I became so depressed that I couldn't stand to talk, much less move. All I wanted to do was sleep and be left alone. When I did interact, I was grizzly mean.
Avatar n tn Early last year I stopped Cymbalta and had no problems being on it or getting off of it. Then last Summer I began taking Victoza for my Diabetes, I take 1.2 mg injection every other day. It's a great medicine and has also helped me lose weight. Then in Mid-December I was getting Depressed again and thought I might try going back on Cymbalta. I took one 60mg capsule in the early afternoon. I was fine until about 8 hours later.
Avatar n tn I have been on almost every depression pill known to man over the past 10 years and I can say the only prescriptions that did not cause me weight gain are the ones i'm currently on, which are citalopram and wellbutrin sr.
Avatar m tn Yes, I am gaining weight on Cymbalta and dont understand either. I am waiting to see what the dr. replies. I exercise 5 days a week for an hour and a half and havent lost an ounce.
497950 tn?1255863927 When started Lamictal had trouble eating as well. Dropped some weight. Now 1 year later and 94 pounds lighter I feel great! Still losing too. I started at 296 pounds now 202. I have never been able to lose weight. Now able to walk great distances and attend gym. No one would listen to me.
Avatar n tn I am 38 years old and 5weeks prego with #3. I have been taking 30mg of cymbalta for the past two years. I don't see the doctor until January 14. Has anyone taken cymbalta while prego and is it safe???
Avatar m tn From all I've read.....No.....not without checking with the dr that prescribes your Cymbalta. Here's the warning from our re-posted Thomas Recipe in our Most Viewed Health Pages: [WARNING If you are on anti-Depressants, use medical supervision on L-Tyrosine, SamE and all mood enhancers. There can be a risk if taking L-Tyrosine, 5 HTP if you are on a tricyclic or a MAIO antidepressant's ...It can cause a spike in blood pressure.
