cymbalta and citalopram

I was wondering if Citalopram will be just as good as Cymbalta. I no longer have health insurance and can't afford the Cymbalta. I can buy the Citalopram at Walmart for $4.00 for a 30 day supply, whereas my pharmacy charges $175.00 for a 30 day supply of Cymbalta.

I have been on almost every depression pill known to man over the past 10 years and I can say the only prescriptions that did not cause me weight gain are the ones i'm currently on, which are citalopram and wellbutrin sr.

What if you control your food intake do you still gain weight. I am on cymbalta and I am never hungry but it is giving me other bad side effects so I am afraid the doctor is going to change it and all the other options I have read about all say weight gain. I also have an eatting disorder and for me weight GAIN is not an option.

Sometimes it takes a few tries with different meds to find a balance. I had a full blown hypomanic episode on Cymbalta (SNRI), and SSRI's never did much good in the long run - citalopram is a SSRI - but they sometimes use low doses in conjunction with mood stabilizers. My pdoc is considering adding Wellbutrin as it doesn't usually cause hypomania. I am waiting until I am on the right doses of the drugs I am on now. I just got diagnosed end of July.

I just have a quick question about antidepressants and state of mind. I have been on Citalopram since about 2007 and I am wondering if they might have something to do with my feeling of "I really don't care"? It seems that things that would normally upset me now makes me feel indifferent and I don't particularly like it. Most of my friends are no more, partly due to me not giving a hoot about them or what they need.

Common side effect when starting are nausea and dizziness. High blood pressure, sweating, tremors, shaking are definitely a bad reactions and might also occur with a SNRI. You can try but i think this bad reaction can be avoided with Lyrica or Neurotin but who knows, you could have a bad reaction too but they mechanisms of action are totally different from the SNRIs and SSRIs. Please consider that I'm not a doctor nor a pharmacist and those issues must be discussed with you doctor.

You're going to get a lot of different answers to this one. I've only ever been on one, Celexa (also called Citalopram)...and have taken some Ativan, too. The Celexa worked wonders for me and my health anxiety - I took it for a year in tandem with therapy sessions and I was able to wean off of it under the guidance of my doctor.

Hi i came off lyrica for the same reason it effected my mood made me sucidal and i actually lost my marriage over it as it made me aggressive anixous, and distance the higher the dose the more the side effects i was on 600 mg a day at one point put on 2 st lost one and a half now took me 6 mths to come off it not a nice drug if you have depression or mood disorders and cymbalta though a good drug is another one that will play badly with your mood, you need to finnd a antidepressant that will he

I would like to get off suboxone sometime this year. could i take something like cymbalta and just quit the suboxone - basicly having the anti depressant take it's place in some way? are there any combinations that work with suboxone? I am seeing my phsciatrist tomarrow and would like to have some ideas as far as my medications. this is so confusing, yet liberating that soon i will be functional for the first time in my life. He said I will get the cymbalta. So I brought the cymbalta and again my insurance DENIED it again. The Pharmacy called my doc and he called my insurance. They worked out a solution. They and my family doc prescribed a generic med called citalopram that I am taking for 30 days and if it doesn't help then they will ok the Cymbalta. Actually so far the Citalopram IS helping!!!! I went through a long depression and decided to take Cymbalta, After about 2 months I had no sexual fuction (female), headaches, constipation, excessive sweating. I weaned off. Felt great for a few weeks now I am depressed again. I get triggers. What can I take for depression with low side effects? Like no weight gain and sexual disfuction. I can't take Wellbutrin. Paxil took my life away for ten years, I gained weight and was a zombie in bed all the time.

I gained about 30 lbs on Citalopram. I work out and eat healthy. I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!

t help me much and gave me more headaches but it may have been the combination of the cymbalta and the paxil I was taking at that time.

Like the comment above some anti depressants suit some people and not others. If you can cope with it, give the Zoloft time to get into your system, as you will feel worse before you feel better. As you know it can take up to 6-8 weeks before anti depressants make us feel better. If you really cannot tolerate the side effects, then talk to your doctor. I did well on Zoloft, but Prozac was really bad for me with bad side effects. I have side effects with others too.

I have been put on medication but always too freaked out to try it. This past summer i tried citalopram and well it helped with my mood but not my anxiety. My doctor prescribed me effexor but once again i was afraid and didn't take it. Now that the sun is going down and school is piling up, i'm feeling more anxious and depressed so i decided to try effexor.

Combining Alprax and Citalopram can cause central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Please discuss with your doctor for alternate medications. i take 800 mg of lithuim, 60mg of citalopram for my dipolar II disorder and 125mg of levothyroxine for my underactive thyrod i seem to have problems with my sex drive i never want it could it be the meds

i took citalopram 10 mg for a month and never felt any sideffects except being hyper and happy(so they work)ive just been bumped up to 20 mg a week ago and still dont have side effects.so im not sure if it doesnt agree with you or something else played a role in your effects.my doc said he used it when he had anxiety and said they work really well.

57 yo retired mil with PTSD (field medic) and very rapid memory loss over past 3 months. I mean very rapid and getting worse. Taking Citalopram and Trazadone. Also increasing hand tremors. Tinnitus extreme with increase symptoms when moving eyes up, down L-R. No effect when eyes closed though.

when the rest of the family is going through the normal routine he does not talk to us or do anything with us. I have spoke to him about this and he does not feel he has a problem. I have asked that I go with him next appointment to see his doctor--he said "No". The kids and I belong to a gym--we all got to work out as a family...My husband went out and bought a treadmill so he could work out at home because he does not like to be around people.

Hi, I took Paxil for years for perimenopause. Went off of it last July after switching to Cymbalta and then lexapro and Citalopram (had a bad reaction to the citalopram and stopped everything). Been doing O.K. since then cause went through menopause. Some people have horror stories about withdrawing from Paxil but I didn't and I know of at least one other person who had no problems with stopping the paxil.

Hi Sorry to burst your bubble but you will suffer withdrawals mine took a few weeks to kick in I came off effexor. But I know my group that Citalopram is not easy to come off you would be better going back on it and weaning off slowly follow cita's withdrawal programme my support group they are on the web.
