599170 tn?1300973893 Your doctor switched the Xanax to Klonopin due to the chronic use and longer half-life. Klonopin is more suitable for long-term use than Xanax. It passes rapidly into the central nervous system, with levels in the brain corresponding with levels of unbound clonazepam in the blood serum. Xanax should only be used occasionally or for a short-term treatment of anxiety. Celexa is a very common SSRI AD and it works for many people this might explain the medication switch.
Avatar m tn The Xanax worked better for me as far as a quick fix. I am now taking Klonopin along with Paxil. I take the Klonopin twice a day where I was taking Xanax only once a day. I didn't notice any sexual side effects with Xanax. I haven't noticed any side effects with the Klonopin either though. But I guess it affects each person differently. I did notice that with Xanax, it will make you very relaxed. Klonopin doesn't have that same affect on me. But, the Paxil does!!!!
Avatar m tn Can anyone tell me if it is safe to switch from Xanax to Klonopin abruptly and deal with the taper of the Klonopin later or should I do an inter dose schedule, crossing from one to another and at what rate? Please help, any suggestion is appreciated.
Avatar n tn Klonopin is usually prescribed more long term because of its longer half life. Both do a good job in what they are designed to do in my opinion, but ativan is usually prescribed in the short term. During all of this, have you made arrangements for counseling? Learning about your panic is a great way to confront it, understand it, and ultimately beat it in my opinion.
Avatar m tn And yes, there are quite a few benefits of klonopin v Xanax. Klonopin will stay in your system for 8-12 hours as opposed to the 4-6 hours Xanax will. Klonopin will "accumulate" and Xanax will NOT. This means that when your body runs out of Xanax, you're running on empty. Klonopin will always leave you with some reserve, you will always be "covered.
372416 tn?1242665752 one of the lesser problematic muscle relaxers available. Didnt work well enough for me....I use flexeril (cyclobenzaprine) now and its both a lttle more effective and hard to have an addiction problem with.
Avatar n tn Can I take Hydrocodone 10/325, Cyclobenzaprine 10mg, and Tramadol 50mg together safely?
Avatar f tn You should never just stop taking ANY kind of benzo, and most especially Xanax. You were on a high dose of a medication that is meant to be taken short term only, four months being the normal "max." You were on it for 6 along with the Klonopin, which I hope you took in divided doses, at least twice a day. That you are still feeling "odd" after seven weeks doesn't surprise me. You can't undo 6 months of TOLERANCE by abruptly quitting these meds.
Avatar m tn Muscle relaxants like carisoprodol (Soma), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), and even diazepam (Valium), and clonazepam (Klonipin) are not narcotic agents, although the last two are benzodiazepines. Ask your doc about dantrolene (Dantrium).
Avatar f tn Heiferly, So glad to have you back. I was given an rx for klonopin. I didn't even try it as my Dr prescribed it 3x a day as needed then gave me 6 tabs. Then the therapist I was seeing at the time informed me klonopin won't work as needed and has to be taken regularly.not as needed. My Dr says that's not true. By that point I was afraid to even try it. Benzos aren't known to affect the sodium.
Avatar n tn I was wondering what would be a better choice to take every night i cant sleep? drinking glass of wine or taking klonopin. a nurse practitioner prescribed me klonopin since she thought i had anxiety problems, which i dont think i have... but i'm just afraid taking both of them (not together of course), might lead to further problems... and wanted to know which one is better? thanks!
917815 tn?1377498254 I dont post much (read a lot though)...a little over 3 weeks clean (again, LOL)... My right shoulder has been killing me the last 2-3 weeks, and this weekend, seems to have gotten worse; Doc said on Fri, most likely muscular...went through the weekend with Tylenol and today, pain is even worse. I asked him for something "non-narcotic" (he knows about my addiction) and he suggested Cyclobenzaprine (muscle relaxer).
Avatar f tn Hi. I am wanting to quit taking Cyclobenzaprine. I took 20mg a day off and on, like twice a week for 2 years, and then started taking the 20 mg every day for the last 13 years. I plan to wean off, and am wondering what to expect as of withdrawal symptoms. Also, does anyone know of a natural med I could take in it's place?
Avatar f tn He said to just take another one of the Klonopin if that happens but It does not sound right to me because the Klonopin does not work immediatly, it takes awhile. I would just like some feed back on his recommendation.
Avatar n tn Based on the findings, Cyclobenzaprine HCl should be used with caution in subjects with mild hepatic impairment starting with the 5 mg dose and titrating slowly upward. Due to the lack of data in subjects with more severe hepatic insufficiency, the use of Cyclobenzaprine HCl in subjects with moderate to severe impairment is not recommended. http://www.drugs.com/pro/cyclobenzaprine.
Avatar n tn t get as hooked on Klonopin. Klonopin are easier to come off of when needed. Your doctor is aware of this fact too and is smart by switching you over. Better for you come the end of the day.
