Crestor and elevated cpk

Common Questions and Answers about Crestor and elevated cpk

crestor

Avatar n tn Certain medications, trauma, inflammation (myositis), alcohol, genetic problems with the muscle, and viral infections can all cause CPK elevation. CPK is an enzyme that is found within muscle cells. When the muscle cells are damaged for any reason, the CPK is released into the blood resulting to increased levels in the test. I would recommend that you continue monitoring your CPK levels and have regular follow-up with your doctor. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn I am diabetic since 6 years, two years back i discovered that my Lipo is high( cholestrol 290, LDL and HDL),i start taking Crestor and after that i discovered that my CPK level is 600. i stoped it for two months and went down to 450 , due being Hypolipid i couldn't control cholestrol by exercise or food so i changed three doctors and each gave me a different Statins and the CPK now reaches 1375 . , i tried Ezytrol for a while but it's effect was very low .
Avatar n tn My father needs to lower his cholesterol, but Statins cause him significant muscle problems (Myositis) and elevated Creatine Kinase CPK and Aldalase. His symptoms resolve and tests return to normal when the Statins are discontinued. What Cholesterol drugs can he try that do not have Myositis as a side effect?
Avatar n tn I had symptoms of elevated CPK since the last years + and I found that it was due to the fact that I had started exercising after almost years+. Also, I perspire a lot on a regular basis but my fluid intake was extremely low (less than 500 ml per day). I used to have Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness (DOMS) 7-8 days after starting my exercises. My CPK level were around 500+.
Avatar n tn I have been told that my CPK is elevated. Is there something I can do to lower it? I have been having problems with my legs, I walk for about two blocks and they start to feel very heavy and get hard like a rocks. What is wrong with me what is going on with my body?
Avatar n tn Because of aches and pains, my primary care physician ordered a panel of blood tests and all was normal except for the CPK which was 117. He gave me an antibiotic and after a week, checked the CPK again and found it to be 139. He wants me to see a rheumatologist but an available appointment will be months away. I am 75 and have been on Vytorin for at least 5 years as well as Actonel. My bone scan last year was good for someone my age. What should I do while waiting to see an arthritis doctor?
Avatar n tn Hi, First I would like to let you know that there are three CPK isoenzymes present in the body. CPK-1 found mostly in the brain and lungs and higher than normal level is associated with the pathology of brain and lungs. Similarly, higher CPK-2 level is associated with heart pathology. Most relevant CPK level according to your wife's clinical history is CPK-3 that is associated with muscle inflammation or injury. Additionally, certain medications also interfere with the final test results.
Avatar n tn I exercise, diet and take medications mentioned as part of an overall plan to control cholesterol and blood pressure! Is this elevated CPK of 268 something to be concerned about! What is considered a dangerouis level of CPK? Is it possible CPK is a result of exercising(running and weightlifting) or is it the cholesterol medications that's elevating my CPK? Appreciate yours expertise and thoughts on this matter, Thanks!!
Avatar n tn Fat-soluble statins like Lipitor and Zocor cause more damage than water soluble statins like Pravachol and Crestor. Hence the latter should be tried at lower dose. Possibility of hypothyroidism and diabetes should be ruled out as the presence of either disease can complicate the muscle pain. Please discuss these points with your treating physician. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
Avatar n tn Besides medications, various muscle disorders, including autoimmune, inflammatory, genetic, infectious (viruses most commonly) and acquired disorders can also cause elevated CPK. An elevated CPK is most often a marker of muscle tissue breakdown. However, there is a condition called "idiopathic hyper-CKinemia" which is just an elevated CPK, without an identifiable cause, and with no clinical implications.
Avatar n tn CPK-1 or CPK-BB is elevated in brain or lung pathology. CPK-MB or CPK-2 in heart pathology and CPK-3 or CPK-MM is elevated if skeletal muscles are the cause. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Take care!
Avatar m tn Well, like I say, I'm no doc, but I've never heard of elevated Cpk being related to HCV. It is quite elevated though. If it were me, I would want to find out why. I can tell you that I have HCV but my cpk levels are perfectly normal unless I blow it out at the gym.
Avatar f tn They called me yesterday and said the CPK was elevated and that he thought it was the reason for my increased problem with the inflammation. So, he wants me to have it drawn again next week and if it's still elevated he wants me to have it worked up further. I googled CPK and there's like SO MANY different things that can cause it that it's really hard to be able to know. I had been working out at the gym more, since last Feb.
Avatar m tn Hi I am a male 40 years old, 6'0 275lbs being treated for high blood pressure and cholesterol. I do not smoke and I exercise moderately 4 times a week. Besides the exercise, I have a desk job 5 days a week getting little other exercise. Someone suggested that I consider inner imaging screening (EBT Hart scan). I am on Lipitor and Vytorin, I was taken off of Benicar two months ago because of the back pain and an elevated CPK 200's.
Avatar f tn I am a 72 year old active women who has been diagnosed with osteo arthritis who has been sent to my cardiologist because of the my consistant high cpk reading. After electrograms, changes in cholestrol medication,( lipitor, crestor,), now on zetia my tests keep coming in high.Outside of my lower extremities aches, which I credit to arthritis, I feel fine. Both doctors, arthritis and cardiologist, keep drawing blood with these rates still climbing.
Avatar m tn Please provide more information as to why one would have a continuing elevated ck/cpk. My last ck reading was 617, and before that, 607. I have had high ck/cpk for many years. I have been evaluated using emg, muscle biopsy, ekg and other blood work. My highest level was over 800. At one time, the concern was that the statin might be the problem. However, my ck has been in the 400-600 range even before taking statins. I am now on lovastatin--since 7 Jul--after stopping zorcor for 7 years.

Avatar n tn Most of the creatine kinase (CK), also known as creatine phosphokinase (CPK) resides in skeletal muscle, heart muscle, and in the gastrointestinal tract. All your labs are elevated notably CK.
Avatar n tn If the muscle cells are damaged from any cause the CPK enzyme will be released into the blood and the CPK test will be elevated. There are many causes of CPK elevation. Trauma to the muscle including a lot of hard exercise or trauma to the muscle(s) can elevate CPK. Statin's (meds given for high cholosterol) may cause some muscle damage and elevate CPK. But with yours being so very high there must be something going on and apparently that is exactly what they are trying to determine.
Avatar m tn My CPK is still elevated at 406. My LDH was tested and is elevated at 689. My ALT is elevated at 99, but my AST is normal. The only other flag on the chem panel was Cl at 108. My CBC was virtually normal, with flags of 31.4 MCH and 0.8 Abs Monos. Here's the kicker, my aldolase is normal at 5.8. The ANA is still pending. Thank you for your help!!
Avatar m tn CPK is found in the skeletal muscles, heart muscles and brain cells. Elevated CPK usually indicates muscle damage. Some of the causes of elevated CPK are polymyositis, dermatomyositis, viral infections and heart diseases like viral myocarditis. Elevated LDH levels can indicate heart injury or lung or liver injury. What symptoms does your child have? In children sometimes massive elevation of CPK is seen due to myositis following severe influenza.
