Avatar m tn Hi I know how you feel as I have same problems with my nose getting blocked etc and my mouth goes so dry my tongue sticks to roof of mouth. I told my cpap dr and he suggested I have a humidifier which attaches to cpap machine, I'm also on oxygen. This is my first week with humidifier and I feel so much better, I haven't had a blocked nose all week. Have you tried one of these?
514349 tn?1272801633 PCP ordered a CPAP device equipped with a humidifier. I am using 7.0 mm pressure with a nose mask. I have not felt any better after using this equipment now for over a week, in fact I feel even more tired and now I wake up with a moderate headache. Is this normal? Do I need to use CPAP for a while before I am adjusted?
Avatar f tn s what they act like when I contact them at wits end, as I am miserable from the sneezing and non-stop nose drainage! First, with no humidifier. Then, with humidifier. Problem continues. I have stopped using the contraption. Do you know about Provent. Ask for a Rx. Try it! Works for me. They are disposable band-aids with vents that you wear over nostrils nightly. Does the job. Much better option, If it works for you.
Avatar n tn I am a new CPAP machine user. I have a humidifier on my machine. I am doing very well after only one week with the air pressure but I awake a couple of times each night because the steam condenses in the hose and water drips in my nose! So I have to get up and empty water out of the hose and back into the humidifier. My throat gets really dry without the humidifier. Also, my headgear slips off. So I think I need a different one. Any suggestions for either issue? Thanks!
Avatar f tn It does sound like you need a full face mask and you definitely need a humidifier. With proper support and follow-up, most people are able to benefit from CPAP. Worst case scenario, if your nose is stuffy, have that taken care of, and it can help with CPAP.

Avatar m tn After 14 years on cpap I know there is a solution that can be added to the water to help with sinus related problems. When looking up a search on sinus rinse you can find countless home remedies for sinus rinse which I use on a regular basis.I have added different things to the water but have not found one to my satisfaction.I have used distilled water but have you noticed that it smells bad.
Avatar m tn Was given a machine with no humidifier, which was totally useless. Once I got the humidifier added, CPAP eliminated my daytime sleepiness. I wanted to make CPAP work better, tried prescription nasal spray, still only one nostril open. Went on an elimination diet searching for food allergies/sensitivities. Bingo. Eliminated two very common foods, and both my nostrils are now wide open with no blockage. I kept getting periodic sinus infections from the CPAP.

1218873 tn?1300091216 Well I now have a humidifier to go with the s9 and thing have improved. At my clinic appointment the nurse commented that the SD card that records the data showed that the pressures where pretty high. (the machine I have alters the pressureconstantly as required through the night) we thought that it might be due to the fact the machine was drying me out and this would be sorted out by the humidifier.
Avatar f tn s and short runs of tachycardia. I have been using a cpap machine with humidifier since 2003. Last year I had 2 Afib episodes and my cardiologist send me to the heart clinic's sleep clinic for another study. They found bi-pap worked better, sent me home and after a month I took my machine back and they extracted the data on a card and determined it was working properly. I never had such a thorough study and follow up done before.
Avatar n tn CPAP machine can cause watery eyes, allergic reaction, sneezing, air in the stomach-gas and bloating. You can try a cold water humidifier to start with. If you want a raised head then the head end of the bed should be raised. Pillows should be kept to the minimum. Lowering the CPAP pressure can help but do not do this without consulting your sleep specialist. Switching over to bilevel pressure or C-Flex may help you too. So ask your specialist about it. Take care!
Avatar m tn Now I am left with stuffiness and a sweet smell in my sinuses. I do use CPAP at nite with a humidifier. I keep it clean but am wondering if I could have Pseudomonas in my sinus. My drainage is clear.

Avatar f tn Thanks guys! I was so overwhelmed, I didn't bother with my cpap last night (will catch heck from my nurse as it has its own modem) but just couldn't deal with it. If any of those abbreviations throw you, let me know and will spell them out, probably should have. Sarah, takingDH out for Christmas Eve lunch. Diesel sends her yellow to all, she is making progress!
Avatar f tn My c-pap machine is a REMstarAUTO with A-Flex. It's a very good machine. I took the model with the humidifier because they air in winter is to dry not to have it. My only problem is that I have a nasal mask only and I should have get two! One nasal and a full face for when I have sinus infections (which is often with me!). I tried both but I prefer the nasal one. If you have a the chance ask if you can try diferent kind of mask before you make your choice.
Avatar f tn LOL, and during night they came in and added CPAP machine with humidifier. Slept like a baby and felt very refreshed next morning, which is unusual. On way home started sneezing, allergy like, not like a cold. 2 days later, still sneezing and dripping but not like a cold. Could it have triggered an MS reaction or just an allergic reaction to the humidifier? I know I think they are supposed to use distilled water but I am allergic to city water with chlorine.
736040 tn?1257436457 What in particular did you find difficult, was it just the pressure or were there issues with dry throat or nose, a humidifier will help make this more comfortable. Hopefully some of this will help you. The research shows you need a minimum of 4 hours per night to get benefit but sometimes it is easier to build your usage over a period of time. Try for 2 hours every night and then gradually increase the usage over a few weeks.
Avatar f tn You will like having the CPAP with with a attached heated humidifier. It will prevent your sinus's and throat from feeling dry when you wake up in the morning. I loved mine.
