Avatar m tn After 14 years on cpap I know there is a solution that can be added to the water to help with sinus related problems. When looking up a search on sinus rinse you can find countless home remedies for sinus rinse which I use on a regular basis.I have added different things to the water but have not found one to my satisfaction.I have used distilled water but have you noticed that it smells bad.
1173253 tn?1263496613 I was having the same issues when I first started using my CPAP. I stopped putting water in and it's been great sleeping ever since!
Avatar n tn Post nasal drip is seen commonly in sinusitis, nasal polyps and allergies. Since all these causes have been excluded CPAP seems to be the most likely cause. CPAP is known to cause post nasal drip and dry cough in its users. I would suggest you to please consult an ENT specialist as soon as possible. Take care!
Avatar n tn cover up your head immediately, the moment when you get up in the morning, avoid ceiling fan, dont go immediately outside for sometime...
Avatar f tn I never did ask the doctor for more clarification because my headaches slowly went away over about 1-2 weeks after I posted this. If you do a search for "Water retention and OSA/CPAP??" you'll find a support forum with a letter someone posted that their registered nurse sent them. Part of that letter says, "The use of CPAP can decrease the amount of urine that you produce with a consequent increase in water retention and body weight.
Avatar f tn Hi Meagher sorry you are having problem with your CPAP the only thing i may suggest is another type of mask i dout if the CPAP machine would send out any toxic air what i my suggest is run the CPAP for a while please let me know how you get on........
Avatar f tn I just received a new pressure (8) on my humidified CPAP, and I'm having a big problem the minute I get up: tickling to actual burning when the air hits my nasal membranes, runny nose, and constant sneezing. When my machine was set at 3, this happened a couple of times a month, - I blamed myself, thinking the CPAP hadn't been properly cleaned. But now I clean it in hot soapy water every day, and the problem is every single day! Do any of you have this problem?
Avatar n tn My husband has been on a cpap machine for a year now. In the past three or four months he has developed a large amount of mucus and slime in his throat and head. To the point that it makes him vomit every morning and now it is getting to happening sometimes in the course of the day. He has had tests to try to find the problem but have come up with nothing so was wondering if it could be from the cpap machine. Has anyone else had this problem ? We are desperate so please help if you can.
Avatar n tn I cant stand it anymore, 4 weeks in and I am lucky if I sleep 2 hours, its going back on friday

1218873 tn?1300091216 Ok - so I went for the follow up appointment at the sleep apnea clinc and they have given me a humidifier for the Cpap machine, so hopefully this will reduce the dryness. They also read the SD card which had been recording the pressures that I had required over the last 3 weeks. They were quite suprised at how high they were. But also found that the machine was set up for a nasal mask not a face mask.
Avatar m tn hi! I'm boiling my resmed mask in water for 30sec and I think it really helps to clean it out, vinegar may also work I've been taking d mannose hoping it will stop any brain damage I've gotten from sleep apnea if anyone wants to talk about sleep apnea and treatments that would be great!
Avatar n tn Do you have a humidifier on your CPAP? Dry air can cause these kind of complaints.
1237284 tn?1267997794 I believe that cleaning the mask & hose with vinegar & water isnt cutting it. This is my 3rd attemp to get use to the cpap. I do very well with the machine itself, but then in 3 days- I have been getting a sinus & or upper resperitory infection. Im sure this is caused my bacteria. Is there a better way to clean this thing after each use ? Is there some sort of solution or spray I can use that is better than vinegar & warm water ? Thanks.
107693 tn?1252864443 I asked for the nose pillow when i got the results, thinking that i would like it better, It has been two weeks so i asked for the small mask. I was also told that i need to use CPAP with the water. When i wake up I find the need to take it off, then when i go to put it back I get very anxious, palpitations or it feels that my heart is racing. So i sleep without it. I have thyrothis with six nodules. had a FNA results were negative. High thyroglobulin, not on any medication.
Avatar n tn my husband had had a high fever (101-102.8 F ) x 3 days. He has seen his FNP twice and flu swap and chest xray are negative. He started with a bad cough. I worry that he will be unable to keep his Blood suger under control and will get too dehydrated dispited trying to drink enough water. He wo;t go to the ER and he doesn't like Gaterade type drinks. Could he have Whooping cough or a fungal infection because he does not clean his CPAP all the time?
Tbd I was wondering if I have been doing this correctly. I use distilled water for my cpap machine, making homemade soaps and in some of my cooking but it can be expensive to use while on a budget. So I heard if I boil the water for 10 minutes straight let cool and repeat then it's distilled, is this true?
Avatar f tn The vertigo and tinnitus started acting up before I started CPAP, but problems with both have continued to increase since starting CPAP.
Avatar n tn My Mother has had a cpap machine for about a year now. About a month ago she started having allergy like symptoms. She wakes up with watery eyes causing her face to be wet. She has sneezing fits (always like 7 sneezes in a row). Coughs alot. She has atrial fibrillation continuously. No one has been able to get it controlled. She has a medtronic pacer, has had multiple ablations, cannot tolerate amiodarone or other drugs, norpace stopped working. She is short of breath and has no energy.
Avatar n tn I am doing very well after only one week with the air pressure but I awake a couple of times each night because the steam condenses in the hose and water drips in my nose! So I have to get up and empty water out of the hose and back into the humidifier. My throat gets really dry without the humidifier. Also, my headgear slips off. So I think I need a different one. Any suggestions for either issue? Thanks!
Avatar f tn She is still in the nursery, but she is off the oxygen and off the cpap. She is breathing on her own. And they are going to monitor her for another 3-4 hours and if she keeps doing well on her own then she will be back in the room with us and we will get to finally hold her.
Avatar f tn I had to discontinue using my cpap, due to chronic lung infections. Changing the tubing, keeping it spotless, did not help prevent infection for me. Stopping the cpap treatment, is the only thing that prevented the chronic lung infections...and I always used the humitifer, which never helped prevent any infection... I regret ever having the sleep study and I regret what all the money and time it cost me, and the suffering of 3 years of lung infections...I am so done using the cpap treatment!
Avatar n tn I have just got a CPAP machine and have had 3 nights with it. I've had sleep apnea for many many years and finally did something about it. My questions are for those who've been through the "getting used to it" process.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I have a CPAP machine on a months trial, this is one that varies the pressure as required it records the information on to an SD card so when I return to the clinic I will then be given a machine that has the correct fixed pressure. I have a full face mask as I could not get on with the nose only one. Now my problem is I wake in the middle of the night with a very dry mouth (i mean completely dry) my mouth has ballooned with air and the mask is vibrating against my face.
Avatar n tn Is there something I could put in the vaporizer that would help keep open my nasel passages while I sleep? I tried water, distilled, tap and no water at all and I haven't noticed a marked difference.....
Avatar n tn Do deep breathing exercises, take steam, gargle with warm water and increase warm fluids in your diet. Use of CPAP machine dries up the eyes and nasal passages which causes irritation, burning and sneezing. You can try a cold water humidifier to start with. If you already have a humidifier and you still experiences these symptoms you may need a heated humidifier. In most cases this resolves nasal congestion and irritation if it is caused by CPAP. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!
