Avatar f tn How long does it take till you feel back to normal after you start using your CPAP
Avatar f tn Having a stuffy nose can prevent proper usage of the CPAP machine. He or she can also help you with the runny nose problem. Good luck.
Avatar f tn This led the authors of the study to conclude that edema may be caused by OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) itself, rather than by CPAP usage. If you would like to see the study for yourself, you can find the journal article here: http://www.sleep-journal.com/article/S1389-9457(04)00116-9/abstract?cc=y You many want to call your sleep doctor/pulmonologist to describe these symptoms you're having and get their opinion on the best way to treat the swelling.
Avatar m tn It sounds like you need to follow-up with your sleep doctor to further optimize your CPAP usage. I agree, good sleep habits are important, but you may be better served with a formal sleep-hygiene program such as cognitive behavioral therapy. See Dr. Gregg Jacob's insomnia forum for further details for his online program. It can also help with CPAP users. There are so many recommendations for natural sleep aids, but none work consistently for all people.
Avatar m tn It really depends on what's causing your nasal congestion. I have a wealth of resources on my website (http://doctorstevenpark.com), as well as articles on nasal congestion on ezinearticles.com. You can just search for my name.
Avatar m tn Have you tried using Breath-Rite nasal dilator strips or Nozovent clips? Sometimes, flimsy nostrils can collapse when lying down. If it helps, you may want to address this as well when you undergo further surgery. Your ENT can tell if this is the case. If your nose is stuffy, a dental appliance won't work. Take care of your nasal congestion first, and you may want to consider trying the oral appliance or CPAP again. You probably have significant tongue collapse.

Avatar n tn I've been using a CPAP machine for over a year now. I wake up several times a night - more than I did before having the machine - but often attribute it to just being uncomfortable with the mask since I generally do feel better and think that the quality of my sleep time is better. There are times, however, that I feel like I had been experiencing apneas and it makes me wonder whether the pressure is optimal.
Avatar m tn Is it normal to wake up several nights (3 or 4) with the mask on? I thought the CPAP was supposed to make me sleep better not waking up a lot of times. I'm not sure what is going on because I woke up one night with the mask on and was choking and gasping for air than I had a seizure.
Avatar f tn ve found that using a fully data capable CPAP, one that allows ME to access my therapy data each morning encourages me to continue w/CPAP therapy even when I am having difficulties as the data helps to point out what the difficulties are - most often just too high a leak rate. I've used and been happiest w/the Resmed S8 Elite, then the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and then the Resmed S8 VPAP Auto when I needed to be switched to a bi-level PAP due to my COPD.
Avatar m tn i have to put 2 bandages on my nose and this rubber square thats for people with corns on there feet to comfort my nose so it doesent rub..DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEMS WITH THERE CPAP MASK???
Avatar f tn My husband uses a CPAP machine and for 5 years was very compliant. He began having trouble with the mask cutting into the bridge of nose. He has tried different masks, nasal pillows; I think everything that is available. He cannot get a good seal with any of them except the one taht cuts into his nose. Bandaids have not worked. Does anyone have a suggestion to protect his skin without compromising the seal. We would greatly appreciate any input.
1580703 tn?1651904887 You should definitely be evaluated with a trial of CPAP. There could well be a secondary benefit to optimum CPAP usage in that there is medical evidence to suggest that nocturnal asthma may subside significantly when sleep apnea is controlled. Neither oxygen nor inhaled medication, either alone or together, is likely to provide good asthma control. Both sleep apnea treatment and attention to environmental factors will be required.
Avatar m tn I have used a cpap for 10 months. My most prevalent problem is that the exterior of my nose tickles as though a feather is being brushed against it. I use a full face mask most of the time. I have tried applying Vaseline and various other moisturizers to no avail. The only thing that has seemed to help to a limited degree is "AquaPhor" daubed on my nose, not rubbed on.
559187 tn?1330782856 Yo, Julie. Another "hose-nose" here - I've been using my CPAP (mine is much like a BiPAP with exhalation relief) since being diagnosed with OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) three years ago and I wouldn't consider sleeping without it!! CPAP has actually saved my life! I say this because I have had very scary experiences before I got CPAP where I'd wake up not breathing and not be able to start breathing again.
Avatar f tn Yet all those things seemed to make his issues worst and they stayed bad and never seem to be clearing anything up so he stopped usage. He is tired of these skin issues and feeling very insecure because of them. I was hoping someone would be able to be so kind and provide us with some tips on how to keep these issues from being so bad on him. He also has issues with ingrown hairs often. Please anyone with advice would be greatly appreciated.

332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
Avatar n tn My wife uses a cpap machine with moisture every night. She has had two bouts with pneumonia this winter which she never had before using the cpap machine. Questions: Can breathing in excess moist air into the lungs by means of the cpap machine overload the lungs with moisture and cause problems?
Avatar f tn Shhhhhhh - your brain and body are listening. Give yourself some positive self talk, such as... I can do ANYTHING for just 30 days. Sleeping in my own home and bed will be nothing like in that lab. I'm going to take advantage of this change to get 30 days of real quality sleep. I'm glad that CPAP increases my likelihood of a good surgical outcome and recovery. I'm glad the next 30 days I will be at reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
Avatar n tn since using cpap machine started swelling in feet, ankles, hands and stomach. stopped using machine for 4 days swelling went away. started using again for 3 days swelling came back.
Avatar m tn I have been to several allergists and have had 3 regimens of allergy shots, and just about every available prescription and over the counter medication with little or no results. I also have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine to sleep at night. I need some help with my allergies, I am suffering with nasal drip on and off all day at work and at night at home. The last allergy tests I had they said I was allergic to mold, mildew and dust. When the humidity is high, I suffer the most. HELP!
