Common Questions and Answers about Cpap to go

cpap

505751 tn?1225032462 I just found out that I have severe complex sleep apnea with central sleep apnea being the main problem. I go back tonight for another study and to get the CPAP. I am also in the middle a lot of test because my new neurologist is 99% sure I have MS. My question is for those of you already DX with MS - is this sort of sleep apnea common? If so did a CPAP help?
107693 tn?1252864443 I asked for the nose pillow when i got the results, thinking that i would like it better, It has been two weeks so i asked for the small mask. I was also told that i need to use CPAP with the water. When i wake up I find the need to take it off, then when i go to put it back I get very anxious, palpitations or it feels that my heart is racing. So i sleep without it. I have thyrothis with six nodules. had a FNA results were negative. High thyroglobulin, not on any medication.
Avatar m tn Was given a machine with no humidifier, which was totally useless. Once I got the humidifier added, CPAP eliminated my daytime sleepiness. I wanted to make CPAP work better, tried prescription nasal spray, still only one nostril open. Went on an elimination diet searching for food allergies/sensitivities. Bingo. Eliminated two very common foods, and both my nostrils are now wide open with no blockage. I kept getting periodic sinus infections from the CPAP.
343765 tn?1202522532 d be a shame to go through all the discomfort of surgery and then still wind up on a CPAP. There are multiple interfaces between the CPAP and yourself. They have nasal pillows and nose masks (my personal preference) and full face masks. I wouldn't be surprised if there are not others The bottom line is that you need to get the sleep apnea undercontrol if you're having serious rhythm problems.
Avatar n tn t even know if I should bother with Cpap to try to fix my severe symptoms, as I wonder if they can even possibly be the cause of all I experience from such mild apnea? One the the doctor did tell me was that I didn't have REM sleep before, but I did after Cpap was put on. But the whole night was a fight to stay asleep, I bet I slept no more than 3 hours total. What is your opinion, do you think the Cpap could be my miracle cure with all these symptoms, but only mild apnea?
Avatar n tn My wife uses a cpap machine with moisture every night. She has had two bouts with pneumonia this winter which she never had before using the cpap machine. Questions: Can breathing in excess moist air into the lungs by means of the cpap machine overload the lungs with moisture and cause problems?
332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
514349 tn?1272801633 I have other sleep problems, but I have not yet had to go to a CPAP. I understand if I wish to go to a CPAP my doctor requires I do another overnight in hospital (or other sleep study center) CPAP test to determine the best "settings" for me. So far I am CPAP free.
Avatar f tn Shhhhhhh - your brain and body are listening. Give yourself some positive self talk, such as... I can do ANYTHING for just 30 days. Sleeping in my own home and bed will be nothing like in that lab. I'm going to take advantage of this change to get 30 days of real quality sleep. I'm glad that CPAP increases my likelihood of a good surgical outcome and recovery. I'm glad the next 30 days I will be at reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
1173253 tn?1263496613 I am not sleeping as I keep taking off the CPAP to blow my nose or to cough. Could I be allergic to the CPAP, or the dirt or germs in the tubing, or to the air that is sucked in thru the CPAP? No matter how good I feel in the day.....I get worse at night? Help Please.
Avatar f tn "It's not likely it's the cpap treatment itself doing anything to cause headaches later during the day." That's what I thought as well, but the doc and his nurse were out of the office for a few days doing flu shots around town, so I won't be able to call to confirm what he said until Monday. I had so much information given to me in the appointment that by the time I got home and answered a few phone calls I had forgotten some stuff.
Avatar n tn I have been mentioning it to my doctors for a year. I just brought this up to my sleep clinic doctor who told me to go off CPAP for five days. He said that he has only heard of this happening with one other person, but they were very vague about it. (I had brought lots of pictures of my swollen hands. Some mornings my fingers are so swollen it nearly feels like my skin is going to split open.) Well, last night I went without it for the first time in just under two years.
Avatar m tn After one night without using CPAP I did get up to go to the bathroom, my weight dropped by 3 pounds and the pain is greatly reduced. This discussion is related to swelling of feet, ankles, hands and stomach using cpap machine.
Avatar f tn It does sound like sleep apnea to me and I would suggest you make an appointment to see a sleep doctor to have a sleep study done. I believe you will end up having to use a CPAP machine so you can finally get a good nights sleep. I hope you have the study done so you can get to feeling back to normal.
Avatar f tn Alex - that's just the permanent ones! Laura - I've managed to keep it on all night but have to call on Monday to see how to get the humidifier heater to work, don't like cold mist up my nosey! Mine has a "ramp" button, and I can start at 4 and it takes 20 minutes to bump up to the prescribed 20…..whatever that is, by then I am usually asleep.
771990 tn?1341779376 Or perhaps you are coming down with a bit of a cold but are at the beginning phase of it. I found BiPap to be easier on me than CPap because of the two pressures, it made it easier to breathe out than to try and do that against the constant pressure of Cpap.
Avatar f tn Hi cindyk388, how are you doing? Are you able to sleep well after starting to use CPAP machine and are you following you up with your doctor? It is difficult to say as to how many days you require to get used to the CPAP machine without any difficulties, could be even just a couple of days. You can feel the sleep changes by time as your sleep and daily routine activities improves. Go through this link for some more details - http://www.cpap.com/cpap-faq.
Avatar n tn BUT I HAVE TO USER THE THING MY OXYGEN LEVEL WITHOUT IT IS DANGER ZONE %66 WITH IT THE HIGH IS 93...IT DONT BOTHER ME TO GO TO SLEEP I GO OUT..LET ME KLNOW WHAT UR TALKING ABOUT???
Avatar f tn I have recently been diagnosed with Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea and started on a CPAP machine. At first it seemed ok to be using it although difficult the first couple of times. Then this week I developed edema and pain in my joints. It's worse in the morning after waking and gets a little better the later in the day away from the machine I get. Could the CPAP cause the swelling and pain? Has anyone ever heard of that?
559187 tn?1330782856 I was hopeful that this time the apnea would still be in the mild range and i could avoid having to go to CPAP. I agreed with the doctor to try the CPAP and see if it will help. I hope so because I was about to ask my neuro for Provigil just to stay awake at work. I had mild apnea 2 years ago and since then have had no significant health changes other than MS. Even my weight is about 10 pounds less than I was then.
874521 tn?1424116797 sure took me a long time to get comfortable enough to even fall asleep. this is just a trial cpap machine for 2 weeks to see if it will help me at all. would sure be nice to sleep and feel better:) How long have you been wearing one? do you use the full mask or the nasal mask? I tried on the nasal mask and after abt 5 min with the cpap running I ran out of breath and nearly had a panic attack....I'm mostly a mouth breather so thats what happened. I will stick with the full mask.
Avatar n tn But I guess I go to him as the others before him were so awful and I do not have to go in just wear my mask..at least till now. I only feel rested if I get double the sleep like 13 to 17 hours. ON normal amount of sleep I have zero energy and feel tired all the time. I am on a pressure of 20 to 23 on automatic. Very very high. I am due for new mask in February I am thinking of seeing if the respiratory company can come before them and help me find a mask that finds better.
Avatar m tn If nausea is not related to CPAP machine, then other causes will have to be looked into. Commonest cause of nausea is acidity. Take omeprazole and antacid gel and see if it helps. Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause.
1555684 tn?1294434646 I think if that device PROVES successful, plenty of people will be ready to go that route. That's still a ways off from what I've read. I just shudder thinking back to when pretty radical surgery on the soft palate was the new latest and greatest way to avoid CPAP. Many elected surgery over CPAP and ended up STILL needing CPAP. It takes time for the medical community to get a good picture of a new treatment's long term effectiveness.
525545 tn?1293181194 t seem to be enough for me. The combination of CPAP and Provigil seems to work, though, so you might want to look into this, or at least figure out where your obstruction is and see if you can fix it--for good (i.e. get tonsils removed, lose weight, palate surgery, etc.). Don't resign yourself to a life of bad sleep, though. Feel free to contact me here or via note/message if you have any other questions/comments/thoughts about CPAP or Provigil. I'll check back.
568603 tn?1240404035 00 a.m) and then i go back to sleep for about another hour and a half. But when i do get up i'm more tired than ever. Is that normal. And can you please tell me what is restless leg syndrome.
Avatar n tn i got my cpap friday and i seem to be feeling 15 to 30% better. they said it could take 2 to 3 weeks for me to feel 100% again. i am so ready to feel better.
