Avatar m tn with sleep apnea. Did you do a follow-up sleep test (polysomnography with titration)? Or, did they actually put a CPAP mask on you during your test(s) at the laboratory? If not, you may need to see your sleep physician again and have a PSGT (Polysomnography with titration). If your problem is not "simple" obstructive sleep apnea, CPAP/BiPAP/AutoPAP, etc. may not meet your needs.
Avatar m tn It is the most frightening thing I have EVER experienced and it takes an almost sleepless night to finally fall asleep. I will use a Pure Sleep oral device in conjunction with my CPAP to finally fall, and/or fall back asleep...without it I feel my throat close over. I mentioned this to my new doctor's office and was given a chin strap. Upon returning, he convinced me that it was due to my manibular position and anxiety, and that I was probably not wearing my chin strap every night.
Avatar f tn Yes, there can be a link. Every time you stop breathing, you create a vacuum effect that can suck up your stomach juices into your throat (causing your voice box inflammation which can lead to hoarseness, cough, lump sensation and post-nasal drip). It's been shown that stomach contents can then either go into your lungs or into your ears or sinuses. Consider that it's not just acid, but bile, digestive enzymes, and bacteria that's coming up.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with OSA about 2 years. For all this time I am struggling with the cpap machine/mask. I got over the embarrsement/discomfort but still having problems that make me not use it. I have a good machine with humidfyer. But I get so bone dry in the mouth-tongue that it wakes me up.(no moisture to even swallow) I have tried different things but guess I am still mouth breathing with mask on. I have a full faced Mirage Quattro mask.
Avatar m tn Been on the CPAP for the last year. three months ago I had a septoplasty...All went well. Two weeks ago I had UPPP surgery and ever since the first night as soon as I fall asleep I start choking. Seems like even when I'm awake i can take a deep breath through my nose and feel my tonge/throat closing off. I"ve video taped myself sleeping the last few nights and it's happening about every 5 to 10 minutes. I'm choking on the inhale...
233622 tn?1279334905 php To LATW I recommend getting a CPAP with a memory card (so you can see how you are doing without having to pay for another expensive sleep titration study). The card can store your data for months and then it can be printed out in great detail. Also, it's best to have a machine that will adjust its pressures to your changing needs. My pressure can go anywhere from 6 to 14 (it has gone up to 20 in the past so I have it readjusted because at 20 was just too hard for me to exhale).
Avatar f tn Even though I have other sleep issues (limb movements) and my poor sleep patterns persisted even after CPAP, just having my brain get the air it needs and my body not to be stressed with repeatedly suffocating all night, I began to improve. Since you weren't feeling the effects of your sleep apnea, maybe your journey to good sleep and better health will be soon successful.
Avatar f tn My original polysomnography showed 1 obstructive apnea, 1 central apnea, 2 hypopneas and 148 respiratory effort-related arousals in 6 hours of sleep, with greatly increased stage 1 and significantly decreased stage 3 and REM sleep, so I think UARS fits. However, the 2 titration studies I had seemed to have been focused on apnea; the CPAP pressure used only reduced my RERAS to 12/hr hour, and the sleep fragmentation was worse than my diagnostic study.
1572585 tn?1309245054 Hi everyone. I was dizgnosed with sleep apnea a few years ago... I used my CPAP machine for a while in the beginning and thaqt seemed to have helped. Latelly, Due to several factors such as stress, withdrawing from seroquel, withdrawing from xanax, and such, I have had to ask for sleep meds prescription. I take restoril which helps, however I stay in bed for 12 hours at a time... I decided to try cutting the capsule in half, to see if that would help with the amount of time I spend in bed...
Avatar n tn The search my cardio had was the Why, and stumbled onto sleep issues and found pulse Oximetry test positive for hypoxia and sleep apnea. As we go down this tributary, I am told they give you a CPAP and do not worry why. Let's see in three months. This is fair, however since the sleep "box" has been opened, I need answers to a lifetime of fatigue, naps, 24 hour catch-ups staring seizures, night seizures, depression, etc.....
Avatar n tn Get a copy of your sleep test results and make sure that you are spening about 30% of the night in REM sleep and a large amount in Deep sleep. During REM sleep vital bio-chemical reations occur and it is the rest for your brain. Deep Sleep is the portion of sleep where your body rests.
Avatar m tn I stopped breathing 15 times an hour and my Blood O2 got to 82%.. I dont know, are those results bad or mid range?? I had a CPAP titration last night and slept great. It took a while to get used to the mask but i felt really good today. I hope over time i will be back to 100%. The only thing is that the machine pumped my stomach full of air.. Makes an unpleasant morning!! I will be set up on a machine by the end of the week..
Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and was using the cpap machine but used it only once cause i could not at all sleep with a mask on my mouth and I could not aford to pay for it. So I returned it ,but now i cant sleep and during the day at abut after 12 noon i feel really tires and headaches and very sleepy . So i take caffine pills everyday to stay awake. I know taking pills is no the answer and I should be using the machine. My question is is there any other way to cure my problem with out the machine.
Avatar n tn Pillows should be kept to the minimum. Lowering the CPAP pressure can help but do not do this without consulting your sleep specialist. Switching over to bilevel pressure or C-Flex may help you too. So ask your specialist about it. Take care!
Avatar n tn His sleep doctor prescribed this for sleep apnea. Is this really safe? He is supposed to use his CPAP machine along with the meds., but he has not used the machine in months. Is this really good, safe intelligent treatment for sleep apnea?
Avatar n tn Would test thyroid - if severely hypo, it may be the cause. weight loss, cpap, mouthpieces and surgery are the usual treatment options.
Avatar n tn t have REM sleep before, but I did after Cpap was put on. But the whole night was a fight to stay asleep, I bet I slept no more than 3 hours total. What is your opinion, do you think the Cpap could be my miracle cure with all these symptoms, but only mild apnea? Can it cure my mild polycythemia and improve the symptoms I listed, even though the apnea is only mild? I was given the prescription for 11cm cpap. Thanks.
Avatar m tn I wear TAP 3 appliance. Did a sleep study with Resmed Appnealink Plus. 4 Apnea, 12 Hypoapnea/M , AHI 19, Average O2 saturation 93%, lowest 83% once, pulse h 101, low 50, avg 74 then I wore Auto CPAP s9 along with TAP3 and AHI was 0, All Apnea are gone, O2 average was 95% but lowest desaturation episode was 76%, once, pulse H 104,lowest 47 and average 72 Why does this lowest desaturation event up to 83% occur even with CPAP ? Is this a clinically significant to seek an opinion ?
Avatar f tn I have sleep apnea and after using CPAP I still have exhaustion, daytime falling asleep, heart racing. Is the heart racing and feeling of restlessness, due to sleep apnea or something else? I also have high blood pressure, and blood in my stool, GERD, gastritis, asthma. Does it take a long time for CPAP to start working? I was taking some sleeping pills and melatonin. Should I use a full face mask or standard nose mask with CPAP? Thanks very much!
Avatar f tn • With use of a CPAP or bilevel, they show a pattern of central apneas and hypopneas that meets the Centers for Medicare Services (CMS) definition of CSA Patients with CompSA may be seen as those who cannot tolerate conventional CPAP or bilevel therapy both during lab titration and at home. Neither CPAP nor bilevel therapy seems to alleviate their sleep disorders.
1767141 tn?1313678474 Since you mention CPAP and APAP I assume you have had an in-lab sleep evaluation PSG and an in-lab CPAP titration PSG. Do you have a copy of the doctor's dictated results (1-2 pages each)from both in-lab studies AND the full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs (5+ pages each) from both in-lab studies? Most people experience most of their sleep apnea episodes when sleeping supine (on their back) and in REM sleep.
