Cpap success

Common Questions and Answers about Cpap success

cpap

Avatar n tn ve tried to use CPAP for more than a year with no success, using full mask, nasal mask or nasal pillows with chin strap. They either keep me from falling asleep, or I can't get them easily reseated without leaks if I have to get out of bed during the night. I also have trouble keeping the headgear/chin strap in place even when it's correctly adjusted; it slips off my head. I have to over-tighten it; not only uncomfortable, but it irritates my skin. Have you tried CPAP Pro?
Avatar f tn Shhhhhhh - your brain and body are listening. Give yourself some positive self talk, such as... I can do ANYTHING for just 30 days. Sleeping in my own home and bed will be nothing like in that lab. I'm going to take advantage of this change to get 30 days of real quality sleep. I'm glad that CPAP increases my likelihood of a good surgical outcome and recovery. I'm glad the next 30 days I will be at reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
Avatar f tn I would venture to suggest that your husband would have more success w/his CPAP therapy if he began to take a more active role in his own therapy. No one has a more vested interest in his health and therapy problems than he does. Forget prickly male pride and ask for help from his sleep professionals and if that help isn't forthcoming, educate himself and take charge of his therapy himself.
Avatar m tn Was given a machine with no humidifier, which was totally useless. Once I got the humidifier added, CPAP eliminated my daytime sleepiness. I wanted to make CPAP work better, tried prescription nasal spray, still only one nostril open. Went on an elimination diet searching for food allergies/sensitivities. Bingo. Eliminated two very common foods, and both my nostrils are now wide open with no blockage. I kept getting periodic sinus infections from the CPAP.
967168 tn?1477584489 I'll leave the technicalities to someone else, but in general untreated apnea is not good for the heart, or any other part of your body. Whoever provided your cpap equipment should see you through whatever it takes to be successful if you keep going back to them. There are web sites dedicated to helping others with adjusting to cpap. Just sounds like your heart doesn't need the stress of sleep apnea, whether it is causing the problems or not.
Avatar m tn I am Garth Howell, live in the UK and am a OSA sufferer and am on CPAP treatment. Becoming aware of how under diagnosed sleep apnea is and how dangerous the condition is I decided to write a book about and have published it as an Amazon Kindle book and a paperback via Amazon Createspace and it is titled All you need to know.... about Sleep Apnea by Garth Howell and can be viewed on Amazon by going to the Kindle store and selecting Garth Howell.
Avatar n tn Hello, I'm 27 years old and have been diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea. I am not overweight and I cannot stand the CPAP. My ENT said I'm a good candidate for UPPP, but from all the horror stories I read online, I opted to just have a tonsillectomy. After a couple weeks after the surgery, my sleep apnea symptoms returned. My symptoms are that I wake up gasping for air in the middle of the night. I am now seriously considering UPPP.
Avatar f tn 10-22-08 I have been diagnosed with cluster migraines and undergone several means of therapy for the past 1 1/2 years with little success. Additionally, I have been diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea. My neurologist has approached therapy for the migraines via medications and extremely adamant toward my use of a CPAP machine for the SOSA. The consensus of this therapy is that the CPAP machine is as important in treating the migraines as the medicine.
1285653 tn?1288358629 MANY of my symptoms have become dulled. And I truly believe it is due to using my CPAP. And hopefully, my success is inspiration to others. Good luck!
385668 tn?1301793880 Hi. You've been doing your homework, which is good. I believe any surgery should be approached with full knowledge and understanding. However, ignorance is bliss, because the more we know the more we tend to worry. I have not had that surgery, but have 3 acquaintances who have. Their apnea was quite severe.
559187 tn?1330782856 I just got a call from my ENT who ordered a sleep study for me a couple weeks ago. She said that I need to do another sleep study and be put on CPAP as my results showed medically significant apnea. Ah ha, no wonder I am so tired all the time. I was hopeful that this time the apnea would still be in the mild range and i could avoid having to go to CPAP. I agreed with the doctor to try the CPAP and see if it will help.
Avatar m tn I have a friend who has had 2 sleep studies which were inconclusive for sleep apnea. He had a trial of CPAP but wasn't able to tolerate it. He had not one but two mouth appliances made for him but both of them hurt his teeth so he can't use them. His dentist said he's never had someone before who couldn't be helped by an appliance. He's at a loss as to what to try next for his non-restorative sleep where he figures he wakes up between 15-20 per night.
Avatar m tn In my latest Polygraph ,doctor telling it is a mixed apnea, more on non supine position. Due to narrowness in throat may be hard to use CPAP-pressure from 4 to 12 on auto setting, hypothyroidism also, taking medicine for this 50 mcg synthroid, does severe obs sleep apnea is due to hypothyroid, Canadian doctors are like testing platform only.
Avatar n tn I have used CPAP for 2-3 months, there appears to be little benefit, I switched from APAP?, the automated pressure version, to a constant 12 with the machine releasing pressure when breathing out (C-flex), this was with a Respitronics machine.
Avatar f tn I think a doc who uses this kind of screening prior to surgery would have a very high success rate for correcting the real problem. Unless, of course, they are in cahoots with the CPAP machine producers/sellers? maybe get a "kickback"? any comments or suggestions are highly appreciated.
Avatar n tn *on a CPAP machine. Not *in one. Sorry for the typo. You don't go *in a CPAP machine.
Avatar f tn These days IF a person is a candidate for surgery, the uvula surgery is increasingly more often not for removal but a revision. I've known at least 4 people personally and talked to several others who regretted having their uvula removed. They have problems with not being able to manage sinus drainage and some with swallowing.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Ok - so I went for the follow up appointment at the sleep apnea clinc and they have given me a humidifier for the Cpap machine, so hopefully this will reduce the dryness. They also read the SD card which had been recording the pressures that I had required over the last 3 weeks. They were quite suprised at how high they were. But also found that the machine was set up for a nasal mask not a face mask.
Avatar n tn I have done the sleep hygeine route, and have been tested for sleep apnea, tried several herbal sleep remedies, just about everything on the market, as well as ambien, ambien cr, and trazedone, all with little to no success. does anyone have any suggestion that may help me finally get some sleep??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
Avatar n tn My wife uses a cpap machine with moisture every night. She has had two bouts with pneumonia this winter which she never had before using the cpap machine. Questions: Can breathing in excess moist air into the lungs by means of the cpap machine overload the lungs with moisture and cause problems?
Avatar n tn since using cpap machine started swelling in feet, ankles, hands and stomach. stopped using machine for 4 days swelling went away. started using again for 3 days swelling came back.
Avatar m tn ve lived my life in a state of exhaustion, until use of my cpap machine, and that has often caused very bad seizures. Without my cpap machine, I don't think I'd be here making this post.
