Avatar n tn I can fall asleep now no problem, but am waking up during the night and taking my mask off. It is getting very frustrating as I thought that this was a magical cure for tiredness but am getting so put off over the whole thing I feel like just giving up, have others had the same type of feeling?
Avatar m tn You can try elevating head of bed and not using pillow. This is a potentially serious problem treat it as such with an Eye MD ophthalmologist and your family doctor or lung doctor.
5054005 tn?1362922551 It takes a while to find a mask or nasal pillows that work for you. You just have to keep trying. I made several appointlements with my Durable Medical Equipment provider to go there, and try on a couple of masks before selecting one and trying it. After 8 years, I'm about to start my third nasal pillow, the Philips DreamWear. With this one, I was a 5 month beta tester some time ago, so I have prior experience using it.
1054090 tn?1343965695 A sleep partner is very helpful if you think you may have sleep apnea. My horrific snoring tortured my wife nightly for a number of years. She'd observe periods where I would stop breathing altogether, followed by a loud gasp and occasionally bolt upright in bed with a loud gasp. My physician ordered a sleep study done where it was revealed that I had very severe OSA. CPAP was prescribed. Interestingly while my condition was severe, I only needed a very low pressure to correct it.
107693 tn?1252864443 There's a lot of controversy about the connection between sleep apnea and hypothyroidism. We do know that obstructive sleep apnea can lower suppress your thyroid functioning, and low thyroid levels can cause you to gain weight, which can aggravate sleep apnea. It's the chicken or the egg problem. In general, by treating the obstructive sleep apnea definitively, thyroid levels can return to normal in some cases. Getting used to CPAP masks can be challenging.
Avatar n tn Is it sleep apnea if I only wake up once an month/once a night (well lately 3 times in 2 weeks) not being able to breath and coughing? Should I bother my Dr. if it doesn't happen that often?
Avatar m tn I use a CPAP machine, with a nasal mask setting is 15. I do believe it makes me sleep better. However it causes serious gas especially in the morning. I know others have reported this problem but have yet to see a good answer.
Avatar f tn t even realize I have it on anymore. The nasal pillow will only leak when it is worn out and you need a new one. I don't go anywhere without my CPAP and even have a backup unit should somthing happen to the other. It is a lifesaver. If you are feeling air in your stomach in the morning your prescription may need to be adjusted or your mouth is opening while your asleep and causing you to take in too much air. They have comfortable chin straps for that to prevent that from happening.
Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and was using the cpap machine but used it only once cause i could not at all sleep with a mask on my mouth and I could not aford to pay for it. So I returned it ,but now i cant sleep and during the day at abut after 12 noon i feel really tires and headaches and very sleepy . So i take caffine pills everyday to stay awake. I know taking pills is no the answer and I should be using the machine. My question is is there any other way to cure my problem with out the machine.
Avatar f tn I have a CPAP machine , but I can't use it the air rushes in so fast I choke, I just went for a BIPAP sleep study, it was awesome. I slept like a baby. the difference is the Bipap adjusts to your breathing and it didn't choke me. so now I'm waiting for the machine. the sleep apnea isn't too bad, but my narcolepsy is so difficult to manage. I haven't been outside after 6:00pm in about two years, my medication runs out around 4:00pm so I can't drive.
Avatar m tn I have been using CPAP machine for over a yr. now and I have seen no improvement in my sleep. I use the nose pillow mask because of me being a side sleeper but I find me waking up with my mouth open and sometimes there is drool. Should I try a full mask to see if that would be any better for me?
Avatar f tn ve always been a back sleeper so I had trouble with that too. What you can do is get a big fluffy pillow and lay on your side and put the pillow to your back. then if you start to roll, you roll onto the pillow and it stops you. so, I had a pillow under my head, pillow in front of me and pillow behind me. That helped me.
620048 tn?1358018235 Meg , the term nasal pillow Is somewhat deceptive. It is kind of like a cannula but with puffy things that go in your nostrils. Check out some pictures at http://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks/nasal-pillow-cpap-mask.
Avatar f tn I'm 17 weeks n 2 days pregnant n I was wondering is it bad not sleeping with a pillow between cuz I don't and I was wondering if I need to start sleeping with a pillow between my legs?
1054665 tn?1305508455 However this does hurt me, even the air hurts. Is there anything I can do? Is it best if I try an on the nose mask? Just know I don't want to be ripping it off in my sleep cus my sore/scar is hurting, Nor wake up with a real sore nose. Thank you for taking the time to read this and am looking forward to your reply.
Avatar f tn My midwife told me not to intentionally sleep on my back but if it happens, it happens. She also said if it is too uncomfortable to sleep,on my side or something put a pillow, behind my back so I a not directly on my back. But she told me it really isn't that big of a deal until you are 30+ weeks.
Avatar n tn I would also wonder if a well-monitored exercise study, or perhaps a Stress-ECHO, would help your doctors to sort-out the relative contributions of heart and lungs to your severe dyspnea with exertion. In that regard, it is important to remember there is not always a good correlation between symptoms, including breathlessness, and the absolute level (40-45%) of the EF. That is, LV function can be significantly deranged in the presence of a modest decrease in EF.
Avatar f tn s really comfortable but somehow I end up with my pillows instead and my bf with my pregnancy pillow lmao I should of just saved the money honestly bc it is almost the same thing
Avatar m tn I have tried the pillow type mask that makes contact with the nostrils only, but when it is adjusted tightly enough to make sure I have a seal, then it's to uncomfortable, and I can't get to sleep. There may be nothing anyone can tell me to solve the problem, but I believe, if I'm persistent, it will improve. Thanks Again!!!
Avatar n tn After thinking more objectively about it, I believe (as you suggested) that although the swellling occurs with CPAP use, it is not DIRECTLY attributable to the CPAP. I think the CPAP just acts as the catalyst or the trigger to the swelling. Since I wrote my question here on the MedHelp site, I had an app't with a pulmonologist/respiratory specialist (whom my GP had also referred me to, many months ago at the time of my (approx. annual) physical exam.
Avatar f tn The easiest way to lay comfortably on your side when you are further along and have a decent sized baby bump is to use a pregnancy body pillow, it will support your neck and knees and can be used to help with your back also. If you really feel that you need to lay on your back you will have to prop your knees up (have them bent) with a pillow under them and prop your body up with a pillow to stop the pressure of the babies weight.
Avatar f tn Is it bad if I lay down on my left side or right side ? I'm 29 weeks and 6 days .
Avatar f tn Take your time!! I definitely understand how pain can dictate what we're able to get done in a day, and how important it is to listen to our bodies when we're getting those pain signals. I'll be right here whenever you're able to respond ... no rush! I hope your pain eases up and that this weekend is better for you! Best, -Heiferly.
