Cpap oxygen masks

Common Questions and Answers about Cpap oxygen masks

cpap

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea waking 23 times per hour. I've since lost somewhere around 35-40 pounds. I believe I still have apnea, but not as severe. I was completely unable to handle cpap as it induced vertigo (a problem which I have intermittently), and sharp pains in my ears. I worked with the doctor and even on the lowest settings I had problems. I tried an oral device, but I have severe TMJ and it was too painful.
Avatar f tn My c-pap machine is a REMstarAUTO with A-Flex. It's a very good machine. I took the model with the humidifier because they air in winter is to dry not to have it. My only problem is that I have a nasal mask only and I should have get two! One nasal and a full face for when I have sinus infections (which is often with me!). I tried both but I prefer the nasal one. If you have a the chance ask if you can try diferent kind of mask before you make your choice.
Avatar f tn So, please try to get alternate masks to continue with your CPAP. You can even talk to your doctor for supplemental oxygen therapy to correct the low saturations. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1767141 tn?1313678474 Does anyone continue to feel very tired and sleepy right after waking even with CPAP and/or oxygen and if so what have you done about it? My heart, lungs have been thoroughly checked out and they are fine. All other health tests are up to date and are good. I just takes me all day long to get any energy back after the terrible fight I have trying to sleep between 4 and 6 am when I finally wake up exhausted. I'm at my wit's end.
620048 tn?1358018235 Meg, I use a cpap and it does take time to get used to. There are several different types of masks and even the nasal pillows that you can use - don't give up on finding the right one for you. And it also might require an adjustment of the air pressure. Is your machine an older model or did you get it more recently? I can understand the frustration of doctors who have patients who are non-compliant but that doesn't entitle them to be bullies, either.
Avatar m tn on my 1st sleep study my oxygen level was 66% never made it to stage 4..on my 2nd study with the nose mask on the oxygen mean was 92% the lowest was 76%.....just telling that part....i have no problems doping this at all..and im set at 15..and 30 min ramp..my only problem is that the full face mask and ive tried over 8 of them and on my 2nd place thats got them..i got one that fits no leaks that much..
Avatar f tn overall, mild obstructive apnea, becoming severe in rem sleep with mild oxygen desaturation.I used a nose prong (resimed) for three weeks no problems at all, then developed dermatitus in and below my nose, sore and unsightly.I tried a mouth splint ,with lots of adjustments, had facial and ear pain.My doctor advised perservering with c-pap,but also adding the apnea was not bad....total rdi=12.1/hr.I am going on a cruise next week, and I am worried.
Avatar f tn I had a sleep study that showed hypoventilation and elevated CO2. I was given a CPAP but am unable to tolerate it even after different masks etc. I do have a lot of shortness of breath with exertion and experience a lot of air hunger at night. Sometimes I have to get up in the middle of the night to try and relieve the air hunger and shortness of breath. The results are as follows: No mediastinal, hilar or axillary adenopathy. left infrahilar calcified lymph node is seen.
Avatar m tn He pulled -27 cm H20 with RDI of 13 episodes per hour during NREM and 25 during REM sleep. Oxygen Sat dropped to 88%. The MSLT was abnormal showing hypersomnolence but no REM sleep so no narcolepsy diagnosis. Setting ranged from 9 to 11 cm H20 on his CPAP - a ResMed EPR Elite II. 3 years of trying every mask and chin strap and with another PES sleep study to verify pressure, we finally gave up on CPAP and he moved to a TAP appliance. My son has very sensitive skin and tried his best to adjust.
Avatar m tn I suggest you ask the CPAP question on a sleep apnea forum. I do know that some of the larger masks can cause drying of the eyes. Although aspirin is over the counter you should discuss the dosage with his MD. It can run from a baby aspirin/day to 4 adult asprin/day. My mother controled her blood pressure and took asprin and did not have it in the second eye. If it happened right now I would suggest chewing an adult asprin and contacting your Eye MD immediately.
Avatar n tn I have been on cpap for 2 weeks now, I have had 4 different masks. I can fall asleep now no problem, but am waking up during the night and taking my mask off. It is getting very frustrating as I thought that this was a magical cure for tiredness but am getting so put off over the whole thing I feel like just giving up, have others had the same type of feeling?

Avatar n tn There are two possible solutions: move to one of the new mini CPAP masks. Second use Refresh PM ointment in both eyes at bedtime and Refresh or Systane ULTRA artifical tears on awakening.
967168 tn?1477584489 I have Moderate OSA and haven't been able to tolerate any of the masks I've tried; not even a small nasal piece I tried at the hospital or dr's office. I sleep on my side propped up on 2 pillows plus 1 in front, 1 in back. I think it's because I have major ANS (autonomic nervous system) issues and the masks make me feel like I can't breathe; my HR goes up and I almost faint, as soon as the air goes into the nasal passage I start feeling weird and dizzy.
287996 tn?1312023682 I think part of the reason my osa got better is because my pvc's did lessen with my ablation, then they returned..another reason is I did a sleep seminar with Dr Park here and found out alot about my sleep patterns/habits; I wish I could tolerate the CPAP - it's scarey to think you can die in your sleep if your oxygen goes too low.
Avatar n tn My son of age 46 was diagnosed with sleep apnea several years ago but could not get use to sleeping with the cpap and mask. Now he has a very bad heart condition due to all those years of sleep apnea. Lack of oxygen to the heart. It is very important that people take apnea serious.
Avatar f tn If the machine is not helping you at all, whoever prescribed your cpap needs to hang in there with you until it is certain your apnea is therapeutically treated. Cpap treatment often requires a tweaking of pressure, change of masks, etc. before it is fine tuned. If you find your health professional is not helpful, there is a forum called cpaptalk dedicated to helping cpap users be successful in their treatment.
Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and was using the cpap machine but used it only once cause i could not at all sleep with a mask on my mouth and I could not aford to pay for it. So I returned it ,but now i cant sleep and during the day at abut after 12 noon i feel really tires and headaches and very sleepy . So i take caffine pills everyday to stay awake. I know taking pills is no the answer and I should be using the machine. My question is is there any other way to cure my problem with out the machine.

736040 tn?1257436457 It would be worth speaking to your healthcare provider, there are new masks being made available on the market, is your CPAP machine an automatic unit or a fixed pressure. If it is fixed pressure, it may be worth using the ramp facility as it steps the pressure up gradually. An automatic unit will vary the pressure just to suit your needs. Some of the machines use an option called C-Flex which makes the expiration easier as it drops the pressure during this phase.
Avatar m tn I have used a cpap for 10 months. My most prevalent problem is that the exterior of my nose tickles as though a feather is being brushed against it. I use a full face mask most of the time. I have tried applying Vaseline and various other moisturizers to no avail. The only thing that has seemed to help to a limited degree is "AquaPhor" daubed on my nose, not rubbed on.
5265383 tn?1669040108 After being on amoxicillin (post extraction) and then sulfatrim (sinus affection after communication) I developed physical trouble breathing (swollen nasal/throat passages), plus air hunger and chest pain. Had a chest x-ray, tests for PE (negative), ecg, loop monitor for 9 days. Chest x-ray showed prominence of bronchovascular markings consistent with airway inflammatory disease and COPD in appropriate clinical setting. I've never smoked and have always been careful with masks etc.
Avatar n tn Someetimes there are other health issues with the lungs that affect the oxygen levels and require adding oxygen to the cpap if determined there is a need. Sleep apnea certainly can cause daytime fatigue. In many cases, therapeutic cpap treatment restores one to health and vitality. In some, damage can have occured. If any doubt, a cardiac workup wouldn't hurt.
