771990 tn?1341779376 Are you using the BiPap with humidity? That could explain your stuffy nose and sore throat. Or perhaps you are coming down with a bit of a cold but are at the beginning phase of it. I found BiPap to be easier on me than CPap because of the two pressures, it made it easier to breathe out than to try and do that against the constant pressure of Cpap.
Avatar m tn Did not help at all, but made CPAP a little more tolerable. (First few tries with CPAP gave me very bad sinus headaches.) RDI went up a little. CPAP is not working well as I still have a lot of nasal blockage when I lay down. Wake up after about 3-4 hours with a very sore throat. Tried oral appliance. Wake up after a few hours with a stuffed nose. Dentist noticed nasal blockage due to nose injury (football) and referred me to an ENT. Have done 2 RF turbinate reductions.
1054665 tn?1305508455 t want to be ripping it off in my sleep cus my sore/scar is hurting, Nor wake up with a real sore nose. Thank you for taking the time to read this and am looking forward to your reply.
332074 tn?1229560525 I use the full CPAP mask that covers my mouth and nose. At first it caused me a somewhat claustrophobic feeling and I always wanted to rip it off my face, but I got over that after a few days and now it is no problem. I sleep like a baby with it now.
Avatar n tn I have just got a CPAP machine and have had 3 nights with it. I've had sleep apnea for many many years and finally did something about it. My questions are for those who've been through the "getting used to it" process.
771990 tn?1341779376 It sounds like your new settings are somehow irritating your nose and throat. Are years of having a leak of an kind? Air leaking out through the mouth will give you a sore throat. If your nose doesn't settle down within the next few days to weeks, then talk to your DME vendor or sleep doctor for other options.
Avatar f tn My husband was recently given a cpap and a brand new mask. He used it a couple of nights and really felt great in the mornings when he woke up. Friday night he used the mask, slept in a recliner (he is a heavy man and has a hard time sleeping lying down) and literally slept for 9 straight hours in the same position. When he woke up he felt so great, but he had a hard red lump in the middle of his eyebrows.
149675 tn?1416673133 You would need to stop using your machine for a few days to let the nose heal properly, if you continue to allow the mask to irritate the skin you can end up with a pressure sore on your nose. Take a few days without the machine, try using sudocream or nappy cream on your skin as it will heal it faster. The F&P mask might make a difference however sometimes when people react to the mask especially if it is across the bridge of the nose you would need an alternative type.
1173253 tn?1263496613 I am not sleeping as I keep taking off the CPAP to blow my nose or to cough. Could I be allergic to the CPAP, or the dirt or germs in the tubing, or to the air that is sucked in thru the CPAP? No matter how good I feel in the day.....I get worse at night? Help Please.
Avatar n tn Every once in a while I will wake up and my eye will be very sore and dry. I know I need the CPAP but I don’t want to go blind. This discussion is related to CPAP MACHINE.
Avatar m tn Hi I know how you feel as I have same problems with my nose getting blocked etc and my mouth goes so dry my tongue sticks to roof of mouth. I told my cpap dr and he suggested I have a humidifier which attaches to cpap machine, I'm also on oxygen. This is my first week with humidifier and I feel so much better, I haven't had a blocked nose all week. Have you tried one of these?
Avatar f tn Having a stuffy nose can prevent proper usage of the CPAP machine. He or she can also help you with the runny nose problem. Good luck.
Avatar f tn With proper support and follow-up, most people are able to benefit from CPAP. Worst case scenario, if your nose is stuffy, have that taken care of, and it can help with CPAP.
Avatar m tn Having open nasal passageways is important if you want to eventually benefit from sleep apnea treatment options, especially with CPAP. Once your nose is open, give CPAP another try. There are many ways of gradually adjusting to using CPAP. Another option is to use a formal mandibular advancement device that's made by dentists (not the boil and bite over the counter anti-snoring models), but you have to have the right anatomy and severe sleep apnea patients don't respond as well.
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? Congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sinusitis, and nosebleeds are common problems with CPAP use. Make sure that your mask fits properly and a CPAP machine that uses a heated humidifier can help relieve these side effects. A saline nasal spray at bedtime may also help. If it persists, talk to your sleep specialist for further evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I used a nose prong (resimed) for three weeks no problems at all, then developed dermatitus in and below my nose, sore and unsightly.I tried a mouth splint ,with lots of adjustments, had facial and ear pain.My doctor advised perservering with c-pap,but also adding the apnea was not bad....total rdi=12.1/hr.I am going on a cruise next week, and I am worried.I am wearing tennis balls sowed into a t-shirt,worse in supine rem.I tried half and full c-pap masks, very comfortable, but rash persisted.
Avatar m tn I have used a cpap for 10 months. My most prevalent problem is that the exterior of my nose tickles as though a feather is being brushed against it. I use a full face mask most of the time. I have tried applying Vaseline and various other moisturizers to no avail. The only thing that has seemed to help to a limited degree is "AquaPhor" daubed on my nose, not rubbed on.
Avatar n tn But, he cannot address my other problem of how to use my CPAP mask at night without the pressure sending air into the Jones tubes and creating airflow to the eye and pressure under the eyelid. He's done many Jones tube procedures and has never had this complaint before. Any ideas??
Avatar n tn I have been on cpap for 2 weeks now, I have had 4 different masks. I can fall asleep now no problem, but am waking up during the night and taking my mask off. It is getting very frustrating as I thought that this was a magical cure for tiredness but am getting so put off over the whole thing I feel like just giving up, have others had the same type of feeling?
Avatar f tn 6, which is just considered mild as they say the cutoff is 5. My PCP has has now ordered another study with CPAP. My question is would the fact that I sometimes have difficulty breathing through my nose have any impact on that AHI and maybe this study with CPAP would not be necessary? I'm having these done because of anxiety that they say can be caused by sleep apnea and they want to be sure before prescring psy. med.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I am only guessing here, but I would think the bloody nose is from the dry air of the CPAP. talk to them about trying the humidifier on the side of the unit. It makes a huge difference. I am surprised the NHS covers CPAPs and especially the latest model. Good for them and you!
222135 tn?1236488221 Any one use a CPAP or BiPAP? Can you tell me how long it took you to get used to sleeping with it? Do you really feel better? Waiting to get mine and not too thrilled about it. I hated it when I had to do the titration stay for CPAP. Really did not like the way it felt. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn I am a 45 year old male who uses a CPAP for sleep apnea. However, I am seldom able to wear the mask because I always seem to be stuffed up and putting on the mask with a stuffy nose makes me a bit claustrophobic and I wind up pulling the mask off. One side of my nose always seems plugged and it appears to swtich at any given time. Over the past week, my nose has been hurting on the left side...feels like someone punched me. Very sensitive to the touch and hurts to blow my nose.
Avatar f tn I have been sleeping fitfully during the flu and off the machine comes, I often can not stand it to touch my sore nose. One night I made the decision to sleep without it and I slept for 91/2 hours, unheard of! I can not go like this thinking of giving up C-pap. I am a woman and will be 76 years old next month. Life is too short to go through this misery! By the way I have had the flu shot!
Avatar f tn Hi there, i recently had a trial of cpap , but the mask covered my nose and mouth , i found it very difficult to wear. I only had a 5 day trial, my doc says not enough evidence from the results so i have to have further indepth tests done, awaiting a date for this. It was thought that i had osa ( obstructive sleep apnoae ) . I felt tired in the mornings cos it would take me a long time to get any sleep with the machine on .
Avatar f tn I have had excellent luck with the Resmed Mirage Quattro mask. It has a knob at the top of the mask that adjusts the pressure against the forehead and nose. I wake-up without redness or cuts on the nose. It is a full face mask which is a concern if you're using the nasal CPAP. I was getting redness and cuts when I first started using CPAP but it turns out that my mask was too small. Once I went to a large Mirage Quattro, the bleeding stopped.
