Cpap nasal mask problems

Common Questions and Answers about Cpap nasal mask problems

cpap

Avatar n tn ve tried to use CPAP for more than a year with no success, using full mask, nasal mask or nasal pillows with chin strap. They either keep me from falling asleep, or I can't get them easily reseated without leaks if I have to get out of bed during the night. I also have trouble keeping the headgear/chin strap in place even when it's correctly adjusted; it slips off my head. I have to over-tighten it; not only uncomfortable, but it irritates my skin. Have you tried CPAP Pro?
Avatar m tn yeah needing to do something different. but the cpap mask is full mask. and think i remember its on auto. one of the new resmed models .
Avatar n tn I have used scores of Prescription antihistamines, decongestants, eye drops, nasal sprays, saline flushes, have reduced CPAP pressures, and used different style mask over the past seven years! These help moderate symptoms, or recover from occurrences, but do not prevent them. > I wish more research would be done in this area.
Avatar n tn My son of age 46 was diagnosed with sleep apnea several years ago but could not get use to sleeping with the cpap and mask. Now he has a very bad heart condition due to all those years of sleep apnea. Lack of oxygen to the heart. It is very important that people take apnea serious.
5054005 tn?1362922551 t know how long you have been on CPAP , please stick with it you may have to bring the mask closer to you. what type of mask you have ?
Avatar m tn I've been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. I also have major sinus problems. I've tried the bipap and cpap machines with many different mask and can't find anything I can tolerate. The mask is one thing, but the air being forced causes my sinus problems to increase by stopping up my nose which makes me breathe through my mouth which as everyone knows won't work. Does anyone have issues close to what I have or any other suggestions.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I fought with the cpap the first two weeks, and threw the mask off only one night. GIve it time you will become accustom to cpap, I have Nasal pillows no mask, I had dry throat also, they gave me chin strap and I have a heated hose & the humid setting in at 5, the temp is 77 and I never change the settings. After two months now on the Cpap, this some of the best sleep in years. For me the sleep study was the worse, I two separate nights. Hope this helps some. JB..
Avatar f tn s I have a cpap machine and there are no horror stories about it as long as you get the right mask to fit you you will be fine there is air blowing when you breathe in and out it is normal especially if you have a nasal mask I have a full face mask because I am a mouth breather and because I have oxygen going in mine I like the cpap good luck.
1193998 tn?1265117597 Hi try not to worry about CPAP i was the same as you claustrophobic i would get the nasal mask that way to start with get to use CPAP in the daytime to get used to it on face so night time is easy for you. 222135 tn?1236488221 I have slept with a CPAP for a little over a year. Getting used to it depends on the individual i'm sure. I still have problems here and there and changed from just a nasal to full face because of sinuses. I have other sleeping problems but I do believe I feel better overall.
332074 tn?1229560525 I use the full CPAP mask that covers my mouth and nose. At first it caused me a somewhat claustrophobic feeling and I always wanted to rip it off my face, but I got over that after a few days and now it is no problem. I sleep like a baby with it now.
Avatar m tn I use a CPAP machine, with a nasal mask setting is 15. I do believe it makes me sleep better. However it causes serious gas especially in the morning. I know others have reported this problem but have yet to see a good answer.
Avatar f tn I have had excellent luck with the Resmed Mirage Quattro mask. It has a knob at the top of the mask that adjusts the pressure against the forehead and nose. I wake-up without redness or cuts on the nose. It is a full face mask which is a concern if you're using the nasal CPAP. I was getting redness and cuts when I first started using CPAP but it turns out that my mask was too small. Once I went to a large Mirage Quattro, the bleeding stopped.
967168 tn?1477584489 Unfortunatley the only treatment options available for moderate OSA are CPAP and weight loss. Have you tried a full face mask, it may be that you breathe through your mouth and if you have a nasal mask on your mouth is opening and the air gushes out through your mouth and causes you to feel panicky. A full face mask will allow you to breathe through your mouth which may be a bit more comfortable for you. Is your machine an automatic or fixed pressure unit.
525545 tn?1293181194 m assuming you had a second sleep study done with CPAP to determine the correct pressure and type of mask--did your doctor's report state that your sleep quality significantly improved with CPAP? Typically, companies that provide you with the CPAP machine have a card with a microchip in it that monitors how often the machine is being used, for what period of time, and whether or not it is being properly used (via pressure measurements and recordings).
Avatar f tn Hi Meagher sorry you are having problem with your CPAP the only thing i may suggest is another type of mask i dout if the CPAP machine would send out any toxic air what i my suggest is run the CPAP for a while please let me know how you get on........
Avatar m tn If you are normally able to breathe through your nose but cannot while asleep, you might want to give consideration to the type of soft-gel mask commonly used with Nasal C-PAP. Oxygen can be fed into that type of system, at high concentration.
1767141 tn?1313678474 Which mask(s) have you used? Did you try a full face mask? A nasal cushion or nasal pillows mask w/a chin strap? What is your Leak rate w/the CPAP and APAP. High leaks whether mask leaks or mouth leaks can interfere w/your PAP therapy causing the PAP to provider higher and higher pressure to compensate for the leaks. Were you provided w/an integrated heated humidifier w/your CPAP and APAP? Have you tried adjusting the humidity up or down?
Avatar m tn i have to put 2 bandages on my nose and this rubber square thats for people with corns on there feet to comfort my nose so it doesent rub..DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEMS WITH THERE CPAP MASK???
1218873 tn?1300091216 They were quite suprised at how high they were. But also found that the machine was set up for a nasal mask not a face mask.( the clinic set the machine up at my first appointment) This and the dryness may be the reason the pressure readings were so high. Anyway I used it last night with the humidifier set on 2. But I still woke up in the middle of the night with a very dry mouth.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Hi this may sound a bit harsh but try taping it to you , if not try another type of mask , nasal mask may help , the hospital just changed mine they dont make them now , they put me on a Mirage FX and i would recommend it to anyone its so light good seal ect Please Take care.......
Avatar m tn I don’t know if there are studies on that. With small nasal pillows should not be problem. Even a full face mask if we’ll fit and properly adjusted settings should not raise IOP.
900662 tn?1469390305 It's amazing what we can get used to. Sometimes it takes a big effort or we need to give ourselves time to adjust and experience the benefit. We adjust to life with MS don't we? It would seem when we aren't given a choice we find out exactly how adaptable we are. I've been using my CPAP for six years now. I take a CPAP holiday from time to time but usually remember how much I prefer sleeping 6-8 hours straight through after even a single night 'alone'.
Avatar f tn I just started using my CPAP with a swift nasal mask 3 weeks ago and you just described my systems to a tee. I am miserable. I have been taking Sudafed when I wake up and it has helped but I can't do this forever. There must be a simple solution to this problem that so many users are experiencing...
